Newcastle Squad Too Small – You Don’t Say

Alan Pardew complained about all of Newcastle’s injuries yesterday, as the prime reason Newcastle were beaten.

Joey Barton – in action yesterday

And if that wasn’t enough, then the free kick from which Aston Villa scored their only goal, shouldn’t have been given.

There’s no doubt that Newcastle were missing key players yesterday, and two of them because of their own actions on the pitch.

Club captain Kevin Nolan and Cheick Tiote, were both suspended recently for two games, following picking up their 10th yellow cards for the season.

And discipline has not been good this year at the club, with Coloccini, Williamson, Tiote, Barton and Ryan Taylor all getting three game suspensions,  in addition to the two game suspensions recently dished out to Nolan and Tiote.

Thankfully Tiote will be back for the next game against Manchester United a week tomorrow, and Stephen Ireland should also be available, and we have to hope Shola Ameobi doesn’t turn up for the game crocked again – as he was badly missed yesterday.

Ameobi will have some scans on his swollen knee today, and if it serious then Newcastle could be in trouble with Best and Ameobi both out, after losing Carroll in January and not replacing him – and no wonder Pardew was really worried about the loss of Carroll on January 31st  – he should be.

Youngsters Michael Richardson, Shane Ferguson, Ryan Donaldson and James Tavernier were all on the bench and ion total they have around 15 appearances between them for the Newcastle first team, although they are all very promising youngsters too.

Alan talked about the strength of his squad, and he needs t x it in the summer, assuming no catastrophes happen and Newcastle retain their PL status:

“I don’t want to harp on that but I feel it’s something to look at because we don’t want to be in this position next year,”

“The squad looks small and it counted. We needed senior players to come off the bench and affect the game.”  “We weren’t playing particularly well, but I didn’t have a great deal of options.”

“They could bring on Robert Pires, Nigel Reo-Coker and people like that. That’s what we should be bringing on. That was costly for us.”

Newcastle now need to bring in at least six good players in the summer, and if the news is really true that Enrique is on his way to Liverpool – so be it – and Newcastle will then need seven good players brought in.

It’s a worry that Enrique may be on his way in the summer, because Joey Barton is none too certain about staying.

And unfortunately he seems to have verbal diarrhea at the moment, as he continued his talking on the field yesterday, and seemed to more than once be asking the referee to book him.

Hopefully Pardew will whisper in the Liverpudlian’s ear that he needs to cut down on the number of interviews he gives in the press this week.

It was a poor performance yesterday, and an even worse result, and if Newcastle are going to get a decent number of points from their last 6 league, the team will need to do a lot better than they did yesterday.

Comments welcome.

If all the rumours about players leaving this summer are true, then we need about 20 new players this summer. I think there is an element of exaggeration going on with players out in the press currently, and I do expect The Bull to be on his way this summer, and although I am far from happy about it, I would rather lose him for 15M now, than free next summer.

If I have to watch Nile Ranger ever again I will get sick into my hands.I do think he is technically the worst player I’ve seen in a Newcastle shirt. So so poor.

It must be so annoying for travelling fans who pay hundreds of pounds to follow and support the team week after week. (Season ticket holders too).

To see us not being able to field a competitive team.

The club’s management are clearly failing the supporters.
The squad needs in reality 10 new signings.

Smith & Campbell are too old/slow.
Xisco, Routledge on loan and not good enough. (Although they could have done a job recently)

Then Carroll needs replacing by a quality proven 15+ goal a season striker.

    It’s a shambles.

The fans are paying hard cash and the management are failing to deliver players in adequate numbers and quality.

Surely Ashley, Llambias & Pardew’s main task is to find and finance a squad that can compete at Premiership level all season long?
Injuries and suspensions are too be expected and should never be used as an excuse.

Do your jobs properly and give us a competitive, entertaining side to watch & cheer on.

I’ve heard that there’s no truth in the Caughtoffside article which doesn’t really surprise me, but you never know.

I really dislike Liverpool a great deal. Maybe if we leave some of our underperformers in the bin they’ll come along and pinch them.

Now that both managers we’ve had this season have played the same amount of league games (16) lets see how they compare to each other:

    Chris Hughton:

    P 16, W 5 D 4 L 7 GF 24 GA 23 GD +1

    Alan Pardew

    P 16, W 5 D 5 L 6 GF 24 GA 22 GD +2

So this more experienced manager Mike Ashley was after has gained 1 more point then Chris Hughton and has a better Goal Difference of +1. Admittedly he has done this without Andy Carroll since the first 3 games but they are the stats.

Sorry Chris Hughtons GA was 25 and GD was -1 🙂

So Alan Pardew has gained +3 GD on Chris Hughton

I have never read a rumour that came from caughtoffside that became true.

One loss and this is what happens…compared to last week where one win and we were going to get into CL…and people hate geordie fans for being fickle

We are rebuilding the squad…players will leave and players will join come summer.

    It cost me
    100 quid hotel
    80 quid x 2 tickets
    50 quid fuel
50 quid beer and boout 10 coke for son!!

Canny little spend to go down there yesterday!!
I am putting the performance in context of not having many players to pick from.

I admit, the fat maggot can do fek all about injuries etc…however, he could have backed his manger who cried out for 2-3 signings in the transfer window to supplement a threadbare squad!! What did he do, he sanctioned the sale and loaning of 3 players out and brought in a crock!!

The lads tried their best yeterday, but looked completely demoralised by the state of affairs at the club.

JB saying shouldnt have sold Carroll, should be keeping our best players if we have ambitions and doesnt trust the people who run the club is echoed by all at the club i am lead to believe.

The fact that it looks like a deal has been agreed for enrique to leave is just confirming what I have been told………..I am hoping this guy has the rumours of Barton, Nolan and Tiote going also WRONG!!!

Big mistake making Barton captain (hindsight), all he did was moan and it took his mind off the game. Please shut up now all the people that want Coloccini in midfield, he was out of his comfort zone. Ranger needs to be sent out on loan next season, he was awful. Lovenkrands was twice in a goalscoring position, and Ranger side footed two so called shots.
We had nothing on the bench like Pardew said, this is down to squad erosion over the last few years. It is hardly his fault, every manager has had the same problem under Ashley. Who is trying to wing it, to get the finances right!

Caught Offside is a pretty woeful website. Their reporting method is “throw enough sh*t at a wall and some of it will stick”. Don’t take too much credence in it lads.

@WWJBD: I’m usually one to agree with that sentiment, but after yesterdays gutless performance it is setting some alarm bells off. Nobody had any fight, we didn’t even try and threaten the goal after we conceded and why Ranger was kept on for so long is absolutely beyond me. Kuqi and Lover made a good partnership when they came on – play those two for more than 10 minutes, Pards.

And again, though it grates against my very being to do it, I have to agree with Angryman; bad grammar and iPhones don’t mix – Sorry, I meant that we should have definitely had a replacement lined up for Carool before selling him. For all the good that £35m is doing us, we might as well have held on to Carroll until the summer. Unfortunately, if we’d done that, there’s no way Liverpool would have paid so much for him. This was the only time we were going to get £35m for a player with 6 months EPL experience, and we’d have been mad not to take it, but with all the speculation around Carroll, we really should have bought in another striker before this went ahead.

I also agree with Geoff, Routledge and Xisco may not have been world beaters, but I think they’d have done a better job than Ranger and Raylor yesterday. They really should have been kept here.

Anyhoo, we get Tiote back for the next match and Noaln back for the match after. We still have a few points left in us. Let’s just hope that we can get over the line sooner rather than later and start looking at bringing players in/tying players down. I do think we’ll be a lot stronger next season.

    You dont need stats,its incomparable

We made some history wins with CH

    Sunderland 5-1
    Arsenal 0-1
    Villa 6-0
    Liverpool 3-1
    Chelsea 3-4

Beside 4-4 with Arsenal who were down to 10 man….what else is there.

In my eyes CH will always be a winner between those 2…..for this season i mean.

Pardew gets credited for the Liverpool win but he’d only been manager two days and all the players did it for Chris Hughton.

Surely the embarrassing FA Cup loss to Stevenage should mean Pardew has points deducted. 🙂

Pardew’s also shown to be tactically naive with the Stoke & Villa formations.
He should know better by this stage in his career.

On a brighter note (so I don’t get accused of only postng negative crap) …

In an alternative reality far far away …

Ashley, Llambias and Pardew are running 5under1and … but they still have Titus Bramble.

I don’t know what to wish for the most …

A new owner who loves the club or an accident with the Hadron collider?

It all goes back to the January transfer window – it was an embaressment. We should have been looking to add one or two however as we all know it exploded – poor poor management of a club (we had no plans in place in case players wanted out) HOW on earth did we not land Sturridge or even Yakubu. .Premier survival this season then maybe Ashley will sell and take Lamearse and Puppet Pardew with him. Until that happens lets give 100% to the lads (although we got 10 % on Sunday from the team) We could be in a lot worse of a position.
    Keep the faith.

Colo has been slated a bit for his performance yesterday, for me he was no worse than barton or guthrie, they say he looked like a fish out of water well what does that say about joey and danny who were both poor yesterday and even danny edged it over joey, they play there all the time, have we won any game this season when guthrie has has played from the start in a significant role, im not sure we have and i dont ever fancy us when he plays, not all his fault of course but he has to go and young richardson or feguson would of played that role better in my opinion but pardew still wont play a young kid over a senior player.

Carroll went on loan (twice wasn’t it ?) and it benefitted him greatly. Ranger is hardly the model professional either – the opposite applies in fact. Send him to a Championship club next season (thats if WE don’t end up there thanks to Ashley and Pardew, after all Chrissy H’s good work)
This lot will DEFINATELY go down next year anyways if we lose Barton and Enrique, which it looks as if we will, without a number (between half a dozen and 10) of decent players to strengthen the squad.
I have no faith in Pardew at all, and even less in Ashley.
If we don’t go down this season, we WILL next, and we WON’T come straight back up this time.

Its no wonder the rest of England thinks we’re a joke as supporters.

One win and everythings great, one loss and suddenly everyone including the tea lady deserves the sack and arguably our two best players of the season, Jose and Barton deserve to leave in the summer.

It’s no good Pardew whining on now about the size of the squad. He should have whined on to Ashley in the close season.
If people think that this club is going to buy 7-8 players of a good standard this summer they’re totally deluded.
One or two free agents and a couple of kids “with potential” with maybe a semi decent striker will be about as much as we can expect.
Then we can all sit here again 12 months from now bemoaning the same situation.
Let’s face it – this club is going NOWHERE with the Controller in charge.

Why loan Ranger? Just get rid of him…..thinks he’s Snoop Dog and can’t stick sh*te on a barn door… fact, the only striker on my summer retained list would be Ameobi! (Never thought I would say that 🙂 )
If Enrique goes for £15m then we should have £50m to spend……wow! You rose-tinters, Ashley faithfuls and Champ Managers should be excited at that prospect?
