The scan on Shola Ameobi’s knee that was done yesterday, has come back clear and shows no damage to the knee.
Shola Ameobi – what the hell’s that?
That’s good news for Newcastle, and there’s now hope that Ameobi can be fit for the game next Tuesday night against Manchester United.
But on the other hand, the club will not risk the Nigerian-born striker, who was a huge loss for the team last Sunday at Villa Park.
It appears Shola took a knock on his knee in training on Saturday, and on Sunday the knee was swollen, and he couldn’t make the game at Villa Park.
Alan Pardew has made it clear he will not risk Shola next week if he is not completely 100% fit, and he told the local Newcastle press corps today:
“It’s good news on Shola.” “The scan’s come up clear, which is really good news.”
“We obviously didn’t want to run without him until the end of the season.”
“We’ve got to protect him now, and make sure that he is involved in as many games as possible.”
“He is a possibility for Manchester United.” “You’re only as good as your last game, and in that sense we lost our best player for Aston Villa.
“It made a difference to our team.” “As well as Nile tried, he’s got a lot more to learn.”
While Newcastle may have a tough job getting anything out of the game with the Red Devils next Tuesday, the game after that, a week on Saturday, is at Blackpool.
And that’s another massive game for Newcastle, much like the Wolves game, and Blackpool are 4th bottom of the league at the moment, and the Magpies will definitely need Shola for that game.
Newcastle captain Kevin Nolan will be back from his two match suspension for that game, which is also good news.
If Newcastle can win any two of the games against Blackpool, Birmingham and WBA, they can still end up in a fairly good position in the league table.
And way above the bottom three – that’s for sure. 😀
