Some potentially good news today on Shola Ameobi.
Shola Ameobi – should make Manchester United game
Newcastle have been boosted by the good news that striker Shola Ameobi should be able to make the game with Manchester United next Tuesday night.
Shola’s knee swelled up on the journey to Aston Villa over the weekend, and he was pulled out of the game at the very last minute, and Nile Ranger got his first start in a Premier League game.
But Shola’s absence could also have cost Newcastle at least a point on Sunday, because Newcastle looked so impotent up front, with the inexperienced Ranger not linking up well with Danish International Peter Lovenkrands.
The Newcastle Journal is reporting this morning that Newcastle are hopeful the 6’2″ striker will be available for the Red Devils game.
We’ll just have to hope that nothing happens in training before next Tuesday, but with Newcastle so very short on strikers, maybe they should wrap Ameobi in cotton wool before that game.
Ever since Alan Pardew arrived at the club last December, the number of injuries seems to have increased rather dramatically, and with such a small squad, it’s having a disastrous impact on the side, at an important time of the season.
And Newcastle are still not safe yet, with three defeats in their last four games, and still need at least one more win to be safe.
Newcastle fans will be hoping that Shola can make the important home game next Tuesday against the European Champions League semi-finalists, but let’s hope he doesn’t get injured in training – please!
