Newcastle Have £5M Offer For French Left-Back Rejected

There is news today that Newcastle United are already bidding for players in the transfer market, and news coming out of France today, suggests that one of their bids has just been rejected.

Cheikh M’Bengue – 22 year-old French U21 International

Sources in France are saying that a bid of £5M from Newcastle United for 22 year-old Toulouse defender, Cheikh M’Bengue,  has been rejected.

Newcastle were linked with this player a month or so ago, and it’s interesting he’s a left back.

One very good question is that if Jose Enrique is staying on Tyneside, why would the club want to bring in another experienced left-back?

But the 22 year-old looks a very decent player, and of the right age for Newcastle, he turns 23 in July, and it remains to be seen if the Magpies will increase their offer for the Frenchman, who is of Senegalese descent.

But no doubt Toulouse are only too aware that Newcastle have £35M to spend in the summer, and will try to get the highest price possible for their impressive French U21 International.

M’Bengue stands 6′ tall, and has been with his hometown club Toulouse since he was just seven years old, and so far has made 54 appearances for the club, and has represented France at the U21 level 12 times.

Newcastle’s impressive Chief Scout Graham Carr has been scouring the French football scene for new players, and it seems this may be the first of many bids from Newcastle for a number of players.

Look, I know enrique probably will be going in the summer, but putting that aside you can’t say hes gone off the back of this story connor_nufc.

So what if we’re going after another left back, we’ve only had 1 for about 2 or 3 years now, we need cover!

If some miracle happens and the bull stays, I’d still say we need to sign a LB to cover him.

This is a good sign I guess. At least we are looking at players.

There are many reasons why we are looking at left backs:

    1) Either Jose is going or we are preparing a contingency incase he doesn’t re-sign and stay.

    2) We need another left back anyway! Jose has been the only actual left back we’ve had for ages. We desperately need cover for him at least. As much as I like Shane Ferguson, he is a winger and not a left back, he can probably do the job against lower league teams, but not in the Premier League.

    3) Another “buy for the future” except this guy could also play now if needed.

I hope that Jose decides to stay. I think he is one of the core members of our team.

Bids for players like M’Bengue is nothing but good signs as far as I can see.

Pardew said that there was no deal between NUFC and Liverpool. AC Milan on the other hand…

Pretty sure Jose Enrique’s going to leave now.

The only problem with M’Bengue is that his current contract expires in 2014. They’re going to have to pay a fair premium to sign him.

Will probably cost a bit more.
A tough tackling left back, in the style of Tiote, perhaps even more physical (if you can imagine it)
Only twenty two, ticks most boxes other than so far he`s not as pacey or attack minded as El Toro.
But if you are looking for a defender, could`nt go wrong with this guy.
Not saying he cant get forward, just not as good at it as Enrique.
He`s still developing other parts of his game, hell the guys only twenty two.
Like to see the finished product.

Why are we trying to buy a left back when we have one of the best in the world? Is Pardew a total imbecile or just a very bad liar? Can anyone believe anything that pours forth from this guy’s lips?

There’s a little bit of a contradiction in there as well. “Experienced” and “22 year old” seems a bit off the mark, given that the lad hasn’t played outside the French leaque.

That said, I had a nose around last time we were linked and he looks a good prospect. We’ve always needed cover for Jose, so I don’t think this necessarily means we are definitely selling (I hope we aren’t, anyway), but this might mean that Jose doesn’t have to play every game and we might be able to risk him less against some of the teams who shouldn’t present such a problem.

I think this would be a good buy, whether Jose is leaving or not. Does he play anywhere else across the back line?

Good player, Him and Moussa are extremely talented, shame the rest aint.

But this shows Jose wants to leave, EVEN IF nothing is in stone with Liverpool, i reckon he want to join Man United, AC Millan etc..

But how much is he really worth £6/7 Million is alot for a player who untested at a high level, but a good player nonetheless and has strenght and pace which is VITAL.

Lukaku or Adebayor? Niether. I want players at newcastle who want to wear the shirt, not money men. Out of the 2 Lukaku. Only because i know the least about the player and maybe he wants to play football and not wants to be a superstar.

I would like to agree with Davies that if we happen to sign M’Bengue its as back up for Jose. But I think it unlikely that is the case. I hate to think that Jose or any player thinks they are a cert to start every game if they are fit. Competition could be very healthy for the club. Also I think that Enrique’s ability to get forward is as much a result of Jonas’s versatility as it is Jose’s attacking prowess. Also, it’s stated in the article that Graham Carr has been impressive in his scouting. Maybe so, but I will reserve judgement until the summer window has closed. For me this window is THE referendum on how committed the club is to improving and remaining an EPL side with at least some ambition. Ashley and company–the time to ‘put up or shut up’ is right around the corner.

    I think we will need a new left back – I’m a “100%” sure!

    Understanding Pardew speak #1

“I can’t say to you strong enough, Andy Carroll will not leave this football club in this window – 100 % ”

The money? “I’m sure – 100% that he will and it’s my challenge to spend the money wisely.”

Enrique? “There’s definitely no deal between the clubs – 100 %…”

    100% = I’m lying – it’s Mike’s decision!

100 % nufc have money, and are not going bust.

100% will be in the premier league next year.

what more needs to be said. I would rather support a team that is in the position NUFC is than most.

We want players to play for the club.

Its sure no team can look passed the bottom line these days. There have been many good teams lost, I don’t want my team to be one. Sure we may not like the owner, but it would seem to me he likes us more than we like him. Maybe i’m wrong.

IMHO if enrique wishes too leave and we get 10 + mill for him then GREAT BUT !

NOT TO LIVERPOOL or anyone else in the EPL !!! why strengthen our rivals ? let him go to AC milan even if they offer us less money.

as far as his replacement goes ferggie is not a LB lets face it. his skill would be wasted there we need a STRONG big lad back there

    1. it was 5m euros not pounds, so theres some scope to increase an offer!
    2. we have been short of cover at LB all season, so why does everyone automatically asume the worst everytime we are linked with a player.

Please don’t go to Liverpool Enrique! Just thought I would say this to all the MA haters, if it wasn’t for MA where would we be now? In my opinion MA has done a great job despite a few mistakes (Which he admits too) I think someone had to be hated to sort this clubs dept out and MA stepped up to the plate. I have respect for MA for what he has done for this club, everyone makes mistakes.

Theres a few i would like us to go for Cheik is good and would ONLY replace Jose not back him up, Out of all Linked only a few sound promising or legit.

Shane Long (Cause we would look lower down for bargains, i would be suprised if we buy someone from Championship of a striker as Backup or to start.)

Gervinhio (We are looking alot in France,Holland and i would have no doubt we would get someone from there, could it be Gerviass im not sure, but one that it obviously we have scouted, and with Cheik Tiote it MAY be a big enough bring for him to join us.

Kinda sad really, being a part of following our great club and getting a some of the crap we go, would probably and is probably making other teams fans wonder, why on earth we put ourselves through it? Depends Partizan Quique is leaving end of season so all depends on if the new manager wants him, tbh the player ive seen MORE linked than Pablo is Arda Turan with Atelti, Also they have Eduardo Salvio back from Benfica so they have a Winger/Striker Argentinian player, ONLY way i see them going for Pablo is if they sell Salvio.

BTW Nolito is NOTHING like Andy, He is a small type player reminds me alot of Pedro. I think he would suit a lower league team in La Liga like Levante and make a name for himself, he is hardly tested and pushing him right the EPL will be tough for him.

i would love to know how weve been lied to the fact is the club wanted to keep carroll am sure of that but as soon as 35mill come and CARROLL ASKED TO LEAVE u have to do the deal as u cant have a player who dosent want to be here

as for jose the same stands yes we wud like to keep him but the question is does he want to stay if he dosent u have to sell him, n if u do sell atleast sell him to milan not liverpool

and mbengue the ryt sort of player to be looking and who knows maybe jose will and we will have 2 great left backs after u need players for every postion and ferguson is a winger not a left back

Bring on the summer spending spree, bring on the new strip and bring on benny/gosling starting in it
