Looking through some of the free agents available this summer, here are three Swedish Internationals who Newcastle could well be even favorites to bring into the club.
Nigerian International Taye Taiwo, the left back currently at Marseilles, is also a free agent, but he is already being tracked by Arsenal and other big clubs in Europe and we doubt there is much chance of Newcastle being able to acquire him.
Sebastian Larsson
Age: 25
Position: Winger
Club: Birmingham
Sebastian could be a decent acquisition for Newcastle because he’s a good crosser of the ball, and more than a decent player, and at least in 2008 when Newcastle were interested in the player, he waxed lyrical about the Newcastle club.
Oscar Wendt
Age: 25
Position: Left back
Club: Copenhagen
Oscar has played over 131 times with 5 goals for Copenhagen, and has European Champions League experience, and the 6′ tall left back already has 14 caps for Sweden. Wendt had 14 appearances for the Swedish U21 side with one goal and made his debut for the full Swedish side back in 2007.
Johan Elmander
Age: 29
Position: Striker
Club: Bolton
Johan has 52 caps and 14 goals for Sweden, and although he doesn’t get as many goals as you would like for a striker, he’s a good header of a ball and very physical inside the box. He could be the experienced striker Newcastle bring in this summer, in addition to a younger striker, who can still improve big time on Newcastle.
Which other free agents do you think Newcastle should be after this summer?
Comments welcome.

Comment #3We need a striker that can score many goals, and Elmander can’t do many goals.
Seb Larsson is good and Wendt is good too, could replace Jose Enrique (if he goes)

Comment #7Wendt should be got, no matter how the Enrique affair concludes. Larsson, meh. Elmander, no thanks.
Hamit Altintop would be great! I can’t believe nobody has mentioned him on the blog. Twenty-eight, Turkish international, versatile (comfortable anywhere in midfield, defensive or attacking) and still yet to sign a new contract I believe.
Anyone who can score a goal like this is very, very welcome – the definition of corker!

Comment #13We have no real need for another Keeper, Krul/Foster etc are great, and we have another good year at least in Harper. Wages should be used elsewhere.

Comment #14Well well well we all i can say is we can get all 3 points vs Manchester United on Tuesday! Paul Scholes send off with a red card and there is no way they will win appeal if they do appeal, that was a nasty kick right on Zabalelata ‘s leg. Glad they lost! Really hate them both Manchester U and City but I’m glad Man U did not win. It would be nice to see Manchester United win nothing this year….

Comment #15I’d take all 3 of them! Especially Elmander. Not much people here like him but he is a really good striker. Great positioning always. Larsson is just like Ryan Taylor. But, when Routledge was loaned out Ryan Taylor was out with a red card and Tiote was suspended Barton had to play the center and we had nobody out right. That could of been Larsson. If Jose Enrique leaves which i wish he wouldn’t as he said before he loves this club then my very first choice if not Fabio Conterao would be Oscar Wendt. He is a awesome left back who plays for Danish side FC Kobenhavon or something in the champions league. Can really cross the ball and very good striking the ball as he attacks a lot.
We have like the smallest squad in the premier league and we really need to strengthen it with 3-4 Free buys and 4-5 transfer deals with 1-2 being over 10 million deals. Really looking forward….

Adrian Lopez?
Ignacio Gonzalez?………. Haha Joking!
Vicente? Old but a quality winger!
Reto Ziegler? Another chance in the Prem maybe?
Serge Gakpe?
Hamit Altintop?
Ivan Rakitic
Alan?
Some clear bargains there! All free agents from what I can gather and all either good prospects for a few years ahead or proven players at higher levels. Who do you think the best players to go for out of these are?

Comment #17looking at city now I just wonder how strong that rumour was that they they wanted us before citeh but ashley got greedy and turned them down.
While they have players like Tevez and a managel ike Mancini, we have Kuqi and Pardwho !!
But some people, wouldn’t like to be like citeh because they have ” bought it ”. Funny how no one seemed to mind paying a record transfer fee for Shearer !!

Simmo……..Willo…………………..Colo…….Enrique
……………………Barton………Tiote…………………….
RTaylor………………..Ireland…………………..Jonas
…………………………….Ameobi………………………….
………………………………………………………………….
Ireland was best at his Manchester City days in the #10 role in attacking Midfield. He created everything assists and goals, he can shoot from long range too. Its a HUGE relief that Cheik Tiote is back! Enrique and Jonas can do their 1-2 pass, skilled dribbling terrorizing defenses.
Keep the Colo and Willo partnership, and Ryan Taylor can deliver some good passes. Just remember no PAUL SCHOLES!

Comment #25Watching Manure today, they’re poor at defending set-pieces, added to that O’Shea played today, which means they’ll replace him with another midget (Fabio) at RB. This in mind, I’d start like this:
——–Harps——–
Simo-Wilo-Colo-Jose
——–Tiote——–
Jonas–Joey–Ferguson
—-Shola—-Ranger
If Ranger or Shola can peel off, getting an headed opportunity against one of their FBs, it’s a complete mismatch, no contest. Hopefully Cheik can dominate midfield using his power, stamina and athleticism. We need to smother them!! A famous 2-1 victory – HWTL 😀

Comment #26Firstly our reputation for handling players well is well known! Xisco being an example of this. When Enrique first came to us he had real confidence problems, and was criticised constantly on rubriks like this one! Now look at him! Collo also was not a popular player when he first came. Hopefully you get my drift and know what i mean?
Secondly Owen was brought to the club for an over the top transfer fee, when he came and after sending us almost single-handedly into debt with his ridiculous wages walked away when we were relegated! I still get people taking the piss out of me here about this and saying how utterly naive we must of been when the whole Owen story is told!
So, to conclude then, who is going to want to come and play for us if they know that they will be criticised by some of their support before they even get the chance to kick a ball ?
Answer is more than lightly to be somone from overseas who will have to be a glutton for punishment and not know that a lot of people supporting the club will expect miracles to happen after one or two games!
The same sort of thing is expected from the trainers which is why we went through so many in such a short time! Part of the problem was Ashley of course but only a part of it!
And this lads is the crux of our problem and why i don,t think we will ever be construed as a so called BIG CLUB! Our times of paying over the odds for Prima Donna,s are happily over and i don,t want us paying 10 Mil plus for players to have them crucified two minutes after they,ve arrived!
The mentality of some of the base support need to learn how to be patient and not expect too much too soon ! Then and only then might we finally win something before i,ve left this mortal plain!

Comment #34Oscar Wendt – Decent player, doesnt have ALOT of strenght but good at setplays and crossing his defending is a bit suspect but a good freebie though.
Johan Elmander – Too old, Doesnt score enough for me, decent BACKUP nothing more.
Sebastian Larsson – Slow, Lacks the disire to work hard, doesnt do anything that good untill SETPLAYS, granted he is very good at them BUT THATS it, dont need a player like him we have Ryan Taylor much like him.
So Ireland wont be playing soon then? Wow he is jinxyed i swear plus his talent is average at best why are we paying wages to this loser.

Comment #35He’s basically just talking about how happy he was to make the deal permanent and his training. He said he thinks about 1 or 2 weeks for full training. He talks about Pardew, says he doesn’t know too much about him but wants to play for the team and the club. Is looking at 3 games this season and how much he’s looking forward to enjoying his football.
Interviewer mentions the goal and then makes this face: 😀
It has some footage of him training and he looks pretty comfortable.
If anybody wants a transcript just give me a shout.

Comment #40We keep hearing assurances that Enrique will not be leaving the club in the summer, so why do we seem to be interested in half the left backs in Europe?
