Just a thought, at home against the supposed ‘top 6’ teams in the country we have only lost to Citeh having beaten Liverpoo and drawn against Utd, Arsenal, Spurs and Chelsea.
I’d have loved that in August. 🙂

If Ireland plays like that for the next 5 games and I’ll be happy for him to come back next season. There was a good bit of interplay with Barton which looked promising.
Thought Ranger did well when he came on too, definately an excellent impact sub. He seems to un-nerve defenders, challenged Vidic well.

Tell you what, if guthrie has another game like that then thats our midfielders sorted for the summer, with ireland coming in for around 6 to 8 million, and then 2 or 3 strikers, gamiero, gervhino, defeo. and also larrson, elmander and tiawo on the free. As for the defence maybe wes brown might be a sneaky buy from manure for a few million? all in all i can’t wait for the summer :D.

All we asked was for the players to give their all and they certainly did that.

Great point, great reception for Owen and well deserved 😉 and most importantly a huge step to premiership survival.

Tiote my MotM, we are certainly a different team with him and Barton present.

Ireland had a couple of good touches but really needs to be a little more aggressive. He looks sluggish and uncommitted in challenges really. If he wants to play for us next season, he needs to improve in that aspect. Besides, he’s gonna have Ben Arfa as a competitor for that position next season.

Singamagpie – Newsflash – Irelands’s just got back from injury. You think he will be going into tackles putting his chance of signing for us permanently at risk? I don’t think so.

The lad needs to get his confidence up. He looked fairly sharp considering it was his first game back if im being honest. None of our midfielders would of even considered a shot of his cailibre after he came on. Very sharp if you ask me.

Ireland – Barton and hba link up could be something special. I expected him to be well off the boil not playing since December. He will be awesome against blackpool if he gets a bit more commited and pushes on. Def an amf rather than a cm. When’s the last time We had an amf guys?

Guthrie was my MOTM, the lad looked so solid.

Linked well with Barton & Tiote.

Ireland looked good too for his first game in a long time.

    The midfield does look strong.
Gosling is probably better than all of them.

We could have more points as well with beating Scumderland and Tottenham that scored late equalizer. Win at home against Blackpool very unlucky.Should of won against Blackburn away, Bolton home. A point at home against City unlucky again. We have only had 5 matches for our goal difference:
    Bolton(away) Stoke(away) Man Utd(away) maybe Brom(away)
But canceled that all out with destroying Villa,Scumberland,West Ham,Wolves

Arfa chance, I’m sure you’ll join your namesake in a new chant:

    ‘Venez sur Gateshead!’

We’ve really got a gem in him.

lesh .. good to see .. mind you he’s already a fans favourite but good to see that he just loves football ..

Have to say last night was a good result .. some good defending by Willo .. reminds me of a rash tony adams .. but he’s getting there.. midfield was quality .. although we do lack the usual RW, CM play maker, and 2 top strikers ..
but players who were excellent include all the defence, Krul (simply outstanding saves), guti, barton, Tiote (excellent) . and ameobi played good.
We’ve got the grounding of a good team when we’ve no injuries .. but we still need 7-8 players .. 2 first choice strikers, first choice RW .. then quality squad players to back up Tiote, Barton, RW,CB, LW, Arfa, Enrique,Simpson.

I like it. Every other headline has “NUFC holds Man U”. F*** That! They held us and were lucky to get away with it!

Sweedog…. I listened to the match on the radio and the first 15-20 mins made me wonder whether I was in a dream – tremendous performance especially in the lads containing ManU when inevitably they came back at us.

As far as the squad and the need to strengthen, there’s room for a bit of a clear out as well.

    Agree 100% GeordieRob // Apr 20, 2011 at 9:49 AM

The sides effectively cancelled each other out and we didn’t hold them at all, we gave them a good game and gave as much as we took!

    @Lesh
I read that article yesterday made me chuffed to bits that he went to see gateshead, it goes to show he’s not like other Prem footballers, loves the game and really is trying to immerse himself in the culture. Hope he does his magic and becomes a Legend.
