Every one of the 13 Newcastle players who took part in last night’s game gave it all they had, and Newcastle thoroughly deserved their point in a 0-0 draw.
Coloccini challenging Wayne Rooney last night
And there was good news for manager Alan Pardew all over the pitch last night, starting with young goalkeeper Tim Krul, who had a stellar game to keep a clean sheet against the Premier League leaders.
Danny Guthrie had a good game, and our two first choice central defenders Fabricio Coloccini and Mike Williamson both had very good games – again.
And it may be that Steven Taylor will have some job to get his place back, somewhere in that back four.
Argentine International Coloccini was well satisfied with the point, and he said today:
“I think we were in control.” “Manchester United have a really good team and a lot of good players like Rooney and Hernandez, but we kept them quiet.”
“We played a good game all round and in the first half we were better than the second.” “Overall, though, we did very well and kept the ball in the first half.”
“In the second half Man United had the ball more and it was us who had to defend.” “We cannot complain about only drawing, it was a great result.”
“To gain a clean sheet against Manchester United is something most teams cannot do.” “That is very good for our confidence and we will take that to Blackpool.”
“It is so difficult sometimes.” “If Manchester United have half a chance they usually score, so we needed a good defensive display and we got one.”
“One chance for them would have done it.” “There could have been a penalty late on, but we are happy with a point.”
The point was unexpected, and for some reason, maybe it was the painful performance last time out at Villa Park, we didn’t have a good feeling about the game last night, but our lads were little short of magnificent – let’s give them credit where it’s due.
But the one point we got last night will pale a little, if the lads cannot go to Bloomfield Road on Saturday, and get only their second win in seven games.
Assuming there were no injuries last night Alan Pardew will have some good players to choose from, and captain Kevin Nolan will also be back from suspension.
Blackpool have the worst defense in the Premier League, having leaked a phenomenal 69 goals in just 33 games, an average of over two goals a game.
The key to the game is for Newcastle to play as they can do, and showed last night, and that they don’t just play well against the good sides.
It’s the Blackpools and Birminghams of the league that Newcastle have to make sure they beat, and then maybe the Magpies can finish 10th or higher in the league, which has to be the aim right now.
A win at Blackpool on Saturday and we’ll be flying high – thank you very much.

Comment #83Flood – to answer your earlier query I’d have Barton in his natural CM alongside Tiote, I’m just glad I’m not the guy whose going to have to make some tough choices with regards to team selection.
I haven’t seen your name crop up on here before, so I’ll just tell you, Ganiyu is the no1. Troll on the blog, ignore him.

Comment #84Liverpool are plotting a move for St.Etienne’s France International winger Dimitri Payet who looks likely to leave the French club this Summer following a breakdown in contract talks.

That’s extremely narrow minded and sadly the mentality that make us so bankcrupt on technical skills in thi country.
15 goals and 16 assists is a bit more than just tricks isn’t it ? Fergie wants Taraabt and Ronaldo was and Nani is given license. With respect, I think I’d take Fergie’s judgement over yours.
I think Taraabt would light up SJP.
