Kevin Nolan Back – Replaces Danny Guthrie

As expected captain Kevin Nolan returns for Newcastle United in midfield this afternoon at Blackpool.

The Liverpudlian served a two-game suspension and goes straight back into the Newcastle side, and as expected he is the only change from the side that got an excellent 0-0 draw with the Red Devils on Tuesday.

Nolan replaces the injured Danny Guthrie and 23 year-old goalkeeper Tim Krul continues in goal,  in place of the injured Steve Harper, after his Tim’s great display on Tuesday.

Blackpool manager Ian Holloway has made three changes to his side, and David Vaughan returns from injury in place of Elliot Grandin,  and Alex Baptiste and Matt Phillips replace Craig Cathcart and Luke Varney.

The Seasiders have their best midfield playing this afternoon in Charlie Adam, Keith Southern and David Vaughan.

This is a test for Newcastle’s professionalism, and whether they can beat a side they are expected to beat this afternoon.

Teams:

Blackpool: Gilks, Eardley, Baptiste, Evatt, Crainey, Vaughan, Southern, Adam (c), Taylor-Fletcher, Phillips, Campbell
Subs: Kingson, Cathcart, Reid, Puncheon, Beattie, Varney, Ormerod

Newcastle: Krul; Simpson, Williamson, Coloccini, Enrique; Barton, Tiote, Nolan (c), Gutierrez; Ameobi, Lovenkrands
Subs: Soderberg, Perch, Taylor (S), Taylor (R), Ireland, Ranger,  Kuqi

Subs: Ole Soderberg, James Perch, Steven Taylor, Ryan Taylor, Stephen Ireland, Nile Ranger, Shefki Kuqi

He keeps his faith in Lovenkrands 🙂

Anyone watching Cardiff vs QPR because Taarabt is playing really well. Has taken his two goals from nothing but he can be a bit greedy, to be honest, I think we should sound him out as a long term replacement for Nolan as they both play the same position. Whether QPR are willing to sell is another matter though.

    @ochytoon
Taarabt has stated he wants to leave come summer so they wont have much of a choice and as they are the richest football club in the world i dont see them having any issues with getting a replacement. Am still not sure on Taarabt, think he will get found out in the EPL and still think he is very greedy but I am warming to him as a possible transfer.

Would rather have Kranjcar for the same price tho.

Loven hatrick today, Ireland getting a goal and shola topping it off. 5-3 win

Hope Pardew give’s Ireland a good run out, need to see what he’s going to bring to the team before the summer.

@ochytoon – Taarabt has had a good game, great composure with both his goals today, could be one to consider in the summer as long as QPR dont wont too much for him, £5m plus Routledge would be ok imo.

    3-1 Newcastle today!! 🙂

    Great lineup!
Ireland on for whoever of the midfielders is struggling or is a bit tired and Ranger on for either Lovo or AMeobi late on like every time.

    Newcastle United 4 – 1 Blackpool

    Ameobi hatrick!
    Ireland 1 goal!

I understand people are keen to see Ireland but he came injured, then picked up another injury. Too much too soon and he could be injured again and the whole deal could be blown. Better to use him lightly first couple of games and hopefully get the last 4 out of him. Should be goals today. Fancy Nolan, Shola and Campbell to bag one for a 2-1 win. HWTL

Nolan in Guthrie benched? Im happy with that.
Wouldnt mind seeing Guthrie moved on in the summer im afraid, hes too inconsistent and injury prone.
Smith shipped out to Leeds possibly also?
Taarabt doesnt lose the ball, he’s unpredicatble, and exciting and he can be creative when there seems to be nothing on. He’s young too.
I would have him in the squad no problem, he’s twice the player Guthrie is, and with ben arfa in the team next season as well we could be fairly exciting and creative.
I would like to see us go for Kranjcaar is Taarabt is too pricey, infact he may be a better option anyway.

Just an opinion on the Ireland Debate if he plays for the rest of the season for us and plays back to his best form we might lose out in the transfer market. Might be good idea to do exactly what is being done especially if we do not need points to stay up. He can show those that matter what he is like in training and play the odd half hour to get confirmation if he is worth purchasing in the summer or get a season long loan sorted for next year if unsure.

I would have played Ireland instead of Loverboy to match Blackpools 3 in midfield.

Give Taraabt a break. He scored 2 great goals and has been doing it all season. He was 17 when he played in the premiership.

As a muslin, he’s one of the fittest players around too. He doesn’t exactly have the Nolan, Barton and Carroll lifestyle !!

Are Smith, Perch, Guthrie, Loven, Shola et al going to produce a fraction of what this guy does ?
