As expected captain Kevin Nolan returns for Newcastle United in midfield this afternoon at Blackpool.
The Liverpudlian served a two-game suspension and goes straight back into the Newcastle side, and as expected he is the only change from the side that got an excellent 0-0 draw with the Red Devils on Tuesday.
Nolan replaces the injured Danny Guthrie and 23 year-old goalkeeper Tim Krul continues in goal, in place of the injured Steve Harper, after his Tim’s great display on Tuesday.
Blackpool manager Ian Holloway has made three changes to his side, and David Vaughan returns from injury in place of Elliot Grandin, and Alex Baptiste and Matt Phillips replace Craig Cathcart and Luke Varney.
The Seasiders have their best midfield playing this afternoon in Charlie Adam, Keith Southern and David Vaughan.
This is a test for Newcastle’s professionalism, and whether they can beat a side they are expected to beat this afternoon.
Teams:
Blackpool: Gilks, Eardley, Baptiste, Evatt, Crainey, Vaughan, Southern, Adam (c), Taylor-Fletcher, Phillips, Campbell
Subs: Kingson, Cathcart, Reid, Puncheon, Beattie, Varney, Ormerod
Newcastle: Krul; Simpson, Williamson, Coloccini, Enrique; Barton, Tiote, Nolan (c), Gutierrez; Ameobi, Lovenkrands
Subs: Soderberg, Perch, Taylor (S), Taylor (R), Ireland, Ranger, Kuqi

Comment #361What I don’t understand is Krul hoofing the ball up front. Against Man U. he was throwing the ball to the nearest man. It gives us a chance to take control. With hoofing anyone can win the ball.

hope your country accepts 1 more pommy because am there August 1st, cant wait…
Nolan is our top scorer without him we would be in relegation zone so everyone needs to stop slagging him off, is that 2 wins in 11 now??
1 point is a good result today

Comment #364Hopefully there is someone who make a statistics that Ameobi wasted the ball like 9.5 times out of 10 !!!!
That guy is so crap, even after blackpool score…their centre defenders are doing nothing.

I will have to disagree with you. Shola is loved as a Newcastle player for who he is as a person, and when he scores, that is great. But for years now, people are absolutely dying for him to be sold already, praying for it. I don’t think there is a single person in this blog who would say – I want Ameobi to be our striker next year.
Ranger has his problem, and in general, all our front is bad, so the only hopes are that if one is bad, the other one (who is bad as well) will come in and have a lucky break (Ameobi for ranger most of the time).

Comment #368Trying to think of positives…
Good finish by Lovenkrands. 1 point closer to the transfer window (where we need to get some fire power). Some really good saves by Krul.
The list of negatives is pretty long and most have been aired. We don’t seem to play well against 4-3-3 with a tight defence (and a wet pitch??? WTF is with that?). Seem to loose possession too easily under pressure. Just better to forget about that game really…

Comment #369100% agree with you Geordie German. The only thing I can think is taht Blackpool players were closing us down so quickly (it’s beyond me why we weren’t doing the same to them) that there was never a safe short throw/pass option for krul. To be fair to ameobi, the midfield did nothing all game either. That was a tooth and nail defensive game, and our back 4 did well. The midfield were average, and the strikers barely started. Next game start Kuqi and Loven? Ameobi didn’t turn up today.

Comment #370GeordieGerman talking about this whole day. This is some AP tactic I think, otherwise I don’t understand why a player would do this on his own while seeing that it doesn’t work.

Money can’t buy pride, heart, loyalty, passion, honour.
Come on lads, show those shoppers that they bought a guy that jumps at the sight of cash.
