Joey Barton To Commit To Newcastle – Three Year Deal

We had mentioned earlier today that captain Kevin Nolan will likely sign a new long term contract at Newcastle, that will keep him at the club for the next five years.

Joey Barton in action at Blackpool yesterday

And good news in the Sunday Sun today, but you have to go to the bottom of one of their articles to find it, is that they are reporting that Joey Barton is ready to sign a new contract to stay at Newcastle.

The new news is that Newcastle are now willing to offer Joey a three year extension to his current deal which runs through June of next year, and that would mean that Joey will be tied up at Newcastle through June of 2015.

They had previously only offered a two year extension, but now the club seems to have done the sensible thing to keep Joey on Tyneside.

The Sunday Sun is reporting that the financial package is less than Joey is on currently, but it seems he’s willing to take the security of a long term deal to stay on Tyneside, and that’s got to be great news for Newcastle fans.

Joey has been rumored to be on around £65K/week currently, and the new wages are said to be about £1M/year less than that – so the new deal to run from a year come June, is probably around £45K/week, and maybe a bit more than that.

But Joey shouldn’t be too short of money, let’s face it. 😀

The Sunday Sun says the deal could be signed within weeks, and while there still may be some negotiating to be done, Joey Barton is said to be desperate to stay at the Newcastle club.

Well,  that’s just great news.

Comments welcome.

1st? Great news. Joey Barton is essential for our squad. We need a motivator for the rest of the squad so that they play like anyone wearing the famous Black n White should.

Enrique, I love what you did for the club. I still remember how passionate you were last year. Since CH was fired it seems that you’ve lost your way a bit. All I ask is that from now until you leave you play your heart out for NUFC, and ask the same of your team-mates.

and a five year deal for Nolan, one of the slowest players in the première he’s 29 so that will take him until he’s 34 i doubt he will be allowed to take his zimmer frame onto the pitch, we need to plan for his replacement.

This is great news. Nolan will sign as well and we need them both badly. Nolan is our top scorer and has scored a remarkable 12 goals from midfield this season!! He may be slow but he is essential to our success. I think the only player that will leave is Enrique as his heart doesn’t seem to be with Newcastle anymore. It would be a shame if he left but I will thank him and wish him the best in the future (hopefully he’ll play abroad with Milan ad not with Liverpool).

We should get good money for him if he does leave and we could buy a great replacement with time in our hands in the summer transfer window.

Hope he signs… and hoping for a good all round game against Liverpool, seeing that there is little pressure from now on, a relief to all. Wish Ameobi has a good game, I know this happens once every 6 games, but this maybe the one! (love it that 1 person voted him man of the match!) So much potential (see Man U game) yet…

Our core team is quite good (about 9th best in the PL, I’d say), now we need to work on the squad strength. 2 proven forwards (I like that West Ham forward, not Cole!- and the Wigan 1 too) etc. (Ed, really, it’s unfair that you compare man u, with us… Rooney was rested for like 2 months FCS.

dave 1961 you say Nolan is slow, yet he is our TOP scorer. To me it doesnt matter that he is slow. Plus he is one of our best players. Shearer wasn’t the fastest of players yet he is still the premierships all time top scorer. Speed isnt everything being in the right place at the right time is.

anyhoooo yes barton and nolan to sign that would be great for us, plus if we can (i dont think we will) get jose to sign too. Also i would love to see ireland would be an amazing signing too not as a replacement but to work along side nolan.

We need ti go all out and find 2 Strikers that will score 30-40 goals between them for us next season, they need to be hungry for goals like toonboy_84’s mum is for cum.

We need pace and a really aerial threat given our wingers we have. Even a cheeky bid for Bellamy as worst case for the pace, we have not had anyone decent like him running the channels and pulling defenders out of position since he left. I would rather someone came in from the French/dutch league though. This is the area that needs the investment, the rest of the team can use free transfers like Larsson to improve.

We are safe now lads, thats why you will see players signing up. Just don’t let Jose go to them pricks Liverpool.

I’ve given up on Jose Enrique signing a new deal with us, his head has been turned by the promise of Europe. I hope he goes to Milan but I have a feeling he’s going to be drafted to the Kop.

It’s time to start looking forward, and look to replacements. He did a great job, but you can see he is losing his passion for the Black and White. How about we arrange some kind of Part-Ex for Fraser Forster in order to secure Emilio Izaguirre from Celtic. I know the SPL is a mickey mouse league, but this lad has been great this season and will only improve. Plus, it’d be great to keep our Latino Left Wing going with Colo-Izaguirre-Jonas.

This season has made me realize that many fans here are very two faced. Very fickle and keep moaning about the negatives instead of seeing and appreciating the positives. WE HAVE SURVIVED ANOTHER SEASON FFS!! That is coming back from relegation and losing our inspirational manager in Hughton and top goal scorer half way through the season, having Ben Arfa (our best player without a doubt) injured for the whole season, having setbacks with the recoveries of Ireland and Gosling and with many players like Williamson, Simpson etc playing regularly for the first time in the Premiership!! We have also played fantastically at times Sunderland, Arsenal etc.

Imagine how well we will do when we sign properly this summer.

Stay positive guys, we are now SAFE AT LAST FFS!! Wasn’t that our only aim? Not only that we are not 17th but 9!!

If Nolan doesn’t score he does nothing. As for barton, the last half a dozen matches he’s been woeful .

Can’t help thinking we need younger, quicker, fitter and more creative players without the baggage.

Seems strange to offer 2 x 29 year old such long term deals.

Then again we’ve got a joke manager for another 5 years !!

I have to agree with the last few comments. The negativity of so many people on here is pathetic. This is why we have gained the reputation for being delusional. Nolan and Barton have been brilliant for us practically all this season but because they fell short of their usual high standards yesterday they are not worth a new contract is what some people seem to be suggesting. Unbelievable. If you can only be happy being miserable then go and support Sunderland.

There are lots of very short memories too. Pardew is getting stick for having drawn at Blackpool. Remind me again – how did we do at home against the same opposition with Hughton (who I really appreciated by the way) in charge. Both managers have had dodgy results – but there again name one manager in the prem who hasn’t. Get off Pardew’s back, give him time and hopefully this summer will see what he is made of.

The so called negativity is a result of our poor performance, and a manager who opens his mouth without thinking, these are facts, if we go into next seasom with a squad who been found out and a managers that is more interested in the casino than the football pitch, next season will be a long one.

Sorry Dave that is just your take on the current situation. Poor performance (inconsistent) – yes, but this is Newcastle United we are talking about. A manager who opens his mouth without thinking – I don’t think so. What is he supposed to say? Anything he says will be criticised by some (you?) A squad who have been found out – I think our squad will be much changed for the better next season although I suspect you are are one of those who are not prepared to wait and see before opening their mouths (or is it only Pardew who does that?) A manager who is more interested in the casino than the football pitch. Well I don’t know the guy well enough but although he obviously likes the casino he is undoubtedly a committed football man through and through. To suggest otherwise is undoubtedly rubbish. Having pastimes and interests outside your business is still allowed I believe (“all work and no play ……” they say.
One last thing, where did all you negative folk go to after the Man U game. Ah – you were probably one of those who were deriding the fact we had played well yet only got a home draw against one of the top club sides in the world . Delusional I said. Get real and start appreciating a work in progress.

    @Rotunda, Dave 1961 and a few others
An away game against a team scrapping for their survival in the premiership was never going to be easy, especially following the draw against Man U. which more or less ensured our own survival.
A point away from home with most of the team having a serious off day is not a bad result in my book.

Rotonda heights – Barton has only played badly in the last 3 games and Nolan’s goals have kept him up. He does much more than score and intercepts many of the oppositions build up play. He has had a bad run at the moment and I would play Ireland in his place in these games. I think Nolan plays best when he plays 2 or 3 games and then given a rest for a couple of matches as his legs (which aren’t the fastest) get really tired and is way ineffective when that happens. He has struggled with a few knocks also but he’s a great Captain for us. Ireland will now really test him for his place 🙂

Dave1961 I hope next season will be a long one as it will mean we have made it into Europe, otherwise it be the same length of season as normal, about 9mths.

By the way facts by their very nature are verifiable and none of the drivel you have come out with is in any way verifiable.

a manager who opens his mouth without thinking
a managers that is more interested in the casino than the football pitch
and your verifiable proof of these so called facts are what?????????????????????

Ballerfan some decent comments……just a couple of points of order……I think you’ll find that pre-Man Utd match there was a lot of the “rosetinters” on here who were already writing the game off as a loss and saying we should be resting players ahead of the blackpool match……(a ludicrous point of view going into a game against an edgy beaten semi-finalist)…..they were all quiet afterwards too.
We got the tag “delusional” by daring to challenge the accepted heirarchy of club football and making others with less ambition extremely jealous…..and for those with short memories, we did break into that elite band for a time….if only we set our sights higher in January we could have been looking at a jaunt in Europe next season……….

I’m pleased if thats true. JB and KN are the experienced rocks that the club should build upon. I doubt if either of them will last the five years but they’ll be good cover for the new younger players coming through later on.

With a solid central spine of Krul, Colo, Nolan, Tiote and Barton we now need to support these guys with some inspired and innovative signings at CB with left back cover, LB (assuming Jose’s off) Right and Left Attacking MF’s plus two quality Strikers so we have more than one tactical plan next season.

If the squad of 22 included

    Krul, Harps or Forster
Simmo, Saylor, Colo, Willo, LCB, LB
RM, Jonas, Barton, Nolan, Tiote, Gosling, LM, Fergie
HBA, 2 Strikers, Shola, Best and Lua Lua

we could afford to let Ranger, Vuckic, Kadar etc go out on loan and get Raylor, Perch, Smith, Guthrie, Lovenkrands etc off the wage bill. I’d like to see Perch and Raylor swapped for McGugan of Forest and Smudger for Gradel to help boost the above.
