There is a report in the Sunday Times today, that Newcastle United may be interested in Scottish winger Robert Snodgrass.
Robert Snodgrass – can play on either wing
Let’s say it right up front, that that’s an unfortunate name to be blessed with, but Snodgrass has been very decent for Leeds United since 2008, when he joined them from Scottish club Livingston.
We think Pardew may surprise Newcastle fans this summer by bringing in at least 6 new players, but one or two could be from the lower leagues in England, and at Leeds United they also have a very decent young left winger in Max Gradel, who is 23 years old, like Snodgrass.
And if Leeds don’t make the Premier League next season, they could well see some of their better players leaving the club.
Leeds United are currently 7th top on 66 points, level on points with 6th placed Nottingham Forest, so they could still make the playoffs this season.
And other clubs that have been reported to be interested in Snodgrass are Stoke City, Birmingham and Wolves.
Snodgrass can play on either wing, and he can also play in the middle as a withdrawn striker, so the lad is quite versatile and it seems Alan Pardew will go after a number of versatile players this summer.
Robert has played for all the Scottish Youth teams, and so far has two full Scottish caps, and made his debut as a substitute against Northern Ireland in the 2011 Nations Cup match in February.
In his three seasons at Leeds United, which have been in the lower leagues of course, he has played 128 times and scored 28 goals, and has never received a yellow card in his total career, and never had a yellow or red card at Livingston in Scotland, where he played 92 times and scored 17 goals.
In fact he has one red card in total and no yellow cards, which is an interestingly stat to have these days.
If Alan Pardew does bring in a couple of cheaper players from the lower leagues in England, it will be a huge judgment call as to whether the players can perform in England’s top league.
Certainly Mike Williamson has shown there are good players in the lower leagues, who can indeed make the step up to the English Premier League, and Mike has been a success for Newcastle since signing a short 15 months ago.
We expect Newcastle to bring in two or three fairly expensive signings this summer, at least two free agents, and a couple of lower league players in England.
And if Jose Enrique does leave he will need to be replaced also.
What do you think of Robert Snodgrass – could he make it in the English Premier League with Newcastle?
Comments welcome.

Comment #121gazza going fishing, I hold Jonas in high regard. When we went down he didn’t do a runner (OK he asked Maradona if it made a difference to his chances for the World cup). And his final ball has a lot to be desired. But I just can’t help asking myself how he’ll be without Enrique? Unless they move him over to the right wing and without the support from Enrique? Jonas will be at some time booed of the field.

Comment #124Right lads am offically signing off for the night.
For my last comment I shall just say Kuqi seems a brilliant fella and I can quite imagine him and Tiote play fighting during every training session and making it more fun for all. Team spirit is the greatest thing Newcastle has going for it. That makes me happy to support this team

Comment #125Jeez, that’s beer for you. I mean. If Jonas is left on the left without the support of Enrique he will be booed of the field. On the right he will be OK.

Comment #126I have a feeling that our AC replacement Kuqi will score against Liverpool on saturday. Would be hilarious if he scores and AC doesn’t

Comment #127not a bad idea moving him to the right GG, but in my opinion although others wont agree, i think jonas plays really well without constantly doing one two’s with jose, they have a solid partner ship but i think it stops jonas from having ago by himself. Just my opinion though i havn’t been blessed with as much as a football brain as half the peole on here lol.

Comment #129gazza going fishing, You’re taking the pee pee? And I thought I was the only one here without the SAF brain.
People say that Jonas always drifts into the midfield to have a shot. He doesn’t drift he storms. He’s a right footer. If he would do a pass from the line with his left foot…
… Who knows were it (the ball) would land.

Comment #131lol, true but i just think at times jose stops jonas from doing what he does best and that attacking the fullbacks, i understand jose can deliver better and also attack full backs and together they both make a lethal combination on a good day, but latley it seems jose’s head isnt in it and the partnership just doesn’t look as good no more.

He deserves a lot more than just a 3 minute cameo. He is such an experienced striker and I think he would do us a job if he was given a chance. I reckon him and Ranger could do amazing, big, strong brute teamed up with a sleek, fast young striker

Comment #133gazza going fishing, I know what your saying. The bright lights have turned his (Jose’s) head.
ochytoon, Kuqi is a battling ram of a player. I’de like to see him make a start and if after 50 minutes + he can’t take it, send another on.

Comment #134agreed GG can’t blame the lad though, he has been here for 4 years now and has seen the destruction ashley has caused, even though he seems to be starting to look an ok owner, and kuqi plays with his heart in his sleeve , more than i can say for strolla the lazy pathetic excuse for an athlete.

Comment #136We can get so much better than Snodgrass, please he is an average player at best and we have money to spend we should look to Europe for our gland players this season, there aren’t many players in the England who I want / we could realistically get. Give Carr license to travel a bit and give him some money!!
Also some very good stats here about the game on sat!

Comment #137Xisco must have some type of mental or attitude problem. The Depotive manager pulled him after 54 minutes because he could see nothing was happening by way of his central striker (Xisco). That during a 0-0 match.

Comment #138Would Snodgrass start if he were on the club now? No. Not a chance. So why get him to replace one of those players if they leave? He’s adequate, I suppose, but he’s not a viable replacement for any of current starting wingers. I’d only approve of a downgrade to Snodgrass if we upgraded in 2-3 other positions.

Comment #145I agree with some people above, regarding Jonas. I always pick him first. Maybe, that will change after Ben Arfa establishes himself. Still, I’d play them both, always. Two of the best wingers, they’d terrorise defences. Fergie and Rout are decent backups, Larson would not make us world beaters, come on. But if we can dig up another Ben Arfa, then great!

Comment #146We’ve seen that much dross on the pitch in recent years that when a decidely average player like Jonas comes along, a lot of people think he is a world beater……..he is NOT! He does a lot of work but plays like a nine year old, head down, running down blind alleys and cannot strike a ball cleanly…….a good heart and a tryer shouldn’t blind everyone to his obvious limitations……….

Comment #147Kurt .. he supposedly was the guy credited with bringing Bale and Taarabt to Spurs .. bit of a nightmare as you would think he would be aware of players we are targeting and now scouseland will be looking at them .. eg Diego Perotti transfer to name just one..

Comment #148solano .. think he will move to the right wing and be pure quality .. I like Jonas for his skill on the ball and his energy .. he has a few points to improve .. crossing and shooting .. but he can practice this .. it would be a real nightmare to let him go I reckon .. we need 2 wingers already .. one as cover.. nevermind if Guti were sold.

Comment #149As for snodgrass .. don’t think so .. not a bad player though .. in the winger department rather Perotti new LW and Gervinho RW .. and keep Guti .. thats if we want to push on next year..

Comment #150I like Snodgrass, he´s talented and can spot a pass and likes to drift into the box which is always a good sign.
Xisco needs another chance, I mean he hardly got one the last time did he? I remember a game when we were last in the prem against Blackburn at home and xisco started. All we did was hoof the ball up the field and he got hammered by the centre backs. That´s hardly how he plays is it? Look at the Villa (home) game earlier in the season. For the final goal, he took the ball down and had the vision to slot Carroll in. It´s promising.
