As we’ve often pointed out, Peter Lovenkrands has a fine record at the Newcastle club.
Peter Lovenkrands – rifling the ball home on Saturday
Signed just over two years ago as a free agent, Peter Lovenkrands has made 69 appearances for Newcastle and scored 25 goals, with 9 of those being scored in the Premier League.
And Peter took his chance so well against Blackpool on Saturday afternoon, and rifled the ball home in great style to put Newcastle 1-0 up after just 17 minutes.
Alan Pardew talked about his Danish striker today:
“I keep telling Peter he needs to shoot more, and he’s shown with his goal exactly why he should,”“He’s so honest at times he looks to set other people up rather than taking a bit of a gamble himself.”
“When he’s in the side, you know you can play four midfield players against a side playing a different system because of his work-rate.”
“It was only because of the effort he put in against Manchester United that he got substituted. Even if new players come in, I know Peter will still be pushing for a place in the team.”
“He’s a fantastic character and we’re very lucky to have him.”
We’re hoping that Newcastle bring in two strikers over the summer, because the side have not been threatening enough up front, and Shola Ameobi is simply too inconsistent to be relied on to produce goals on a regular basis.
It’s been a huge chance for Shola Ameobi with Carroll gone, and Leon Best injured and out for the season, but he’s only managed one goal recently against Wolves, although it was a good one, to be sure.
But ever since Alan Pardew has arrived on Tyneside, he’s been short of striking power up front, with Carroll initially injured and then sold to Liverpool, and Leon Best injured after putting in 6 goals in 11 PL appearances.
That’s one reason we are hoping for two out and out strikers coming into the club in the summer.
We watched Gervinho and French striker Kevin Gameiro in the Lorient vs Lille game yesterday, which ended up 1-1, and Gameiro scored his 18th goal of the season, and we fully expect Newcastle scouts were at that game.
Two reported Newcastle targets, Gameiro and Ivorian winger Gervinho both looked very good, and we’d be pleased if either of these two players arrive at Newcastle in the summer.
