I Keep Telling Peter Lovenkrands To Shoot More

As we’ve often pointed out, Peter Lovenkrands has a fine record at the Newcastle club.

Peter Lovenkrands – rifling the ball home on Saturday

Signed just over two years ago as a free agent, Peter Lovenkrands has made 69 appearances for Newcastle and scored 25 goals, with 9 of those  being scored in the Premier League.

And Peter took his chance so well against Blackpool on Saturday afternoon, and rifled the ball home in great style to put Newcastle 1-0 up after just 17 minutes.

Alan Pardew talked about his Danish striker today:

“I keep telling Peter he needs to shoot more, and he’s shown with his goal exactly why he should,”“He’s so honest at times he looks to set other people up rather than taking a bit of a gamble himself.”

“When he’s in the side, you know you can play four midfield players against a side playing a different system because of his work-rate.”

“It was only because of the effort he put in against Manchester United that he got substituted. Even if new players come in, I know Peter will still be pushing for a place in the team.”

“He’s a fantastic character and we’re very lucky to have him.”

We’re hoping that Newcastle bring in two strikers over the summer, because the side have not been threatening enough up front, and Shola Ameobi is simply too inconsistent to be relied on to produce goals on a regular basis.

It’s been a huge chance for Shola Ameobi with Carroll gone, and Leon Best injured and out for the season, but he’s only managed one goal recently against Wolves, although it was a good one, to be sure.

But ever since Alan Pardew has arrived on Tyneside, he’s been short of striking power up front, with Carroll initially injured and then sold to Liverpool, and Leon Best injured after putting in 6 goals in 11 PL appearances.

That’s one reason we are hoping for two out and out strikers coming into the club in the summer.

We watched Gervinho and French striker Kevin Gameiro in the Lorient vs Lille game yesterday, which ended up 1-1, and Gameiro scored his 18th goal of the season, and we fully expect Newcastle scouts were at that game.

Two reported Newcastle targets,  Gameiro and Ivorian winger Gervinho both looked very good, and we’d be pleased if either of these two players arrive at Newcastle in the summer.

Comments welcome.

Ameobi is a waste of space.

I’m sick to the back teeth of saying season after season after season that it should be his last in a newcastle shirt and yet hes still here.

He is the laziest player I have ever seen. Plays one good game in 12 and you can guarantee he’ll be injured the following game so he doesn’t have to follow it up.

Hes a con man, has managed to take millions out of this club in wages and has repaid very little.

We do not have any Premier League strikers at this club right now.

Yes Peter works hard (50 times harder than Ameobi) but he’s still not good enough.

Get rid of Ameobi, Lovenkrands and Best, bring in 3 good quality strikers, 2 young potential stars and 1 more established player (Odemwingie)

Bit harsh on Ameobi, magpie999. We won’t sell him and he will chip in with goals, so you might as well get used to it and stop slagging off our players.

I like lovenkrands, he just needs a run in the team to start scoring. He’s been used too sparingly to get a gd run of form going. We do need two new strikers but i can’t see that happening, maybe we’ll get one in gameiro and gervinho (if he came!) would be out on the right wing. I know people slate ameobi but he does always step up when we need him to and does come up with some important goals! we won’t sell him. Best seems to have a few goals in him as well. will be interesting to see who the new strike force will be next season as all of them can grab some goals.

watching Ameobi on saturday he was awful. McLoven isn’t an out and out striker but he has more composure in front of goal than Shola.
Hopefully the Power Ranger and Airey will get a few games now we are (nearly) safe, both of them have bucket loads of talent but are needing to polish up before guaranteed 1st team football.

    A bit harsh on Ameobi?

You have got to be kidding.

He has managed to con about 10 managers in his time. He must look like a combination of Messi and ronaldo in training because he is beyond rubbish on the pitch.

    One word sums up Ameobi….LAZY

I totally agree with magpie999, if we have any ambition not to be looking over our shoulder at relegation each season we need 2 new strikers minimum. Our strikers are as useful as GG would be in a football quiz.

I suppose we will know what Nile Ranger is made of next season, wouldn’t want to call it make or break it season but i think in some ways that’s what it will be.

magpie999 – Sit down and shut up will you. Shola had a bad game,, he was MOTM against wolves a week and half earlier.

Shola will give you 8-10 goals every season. With no striker in the league hitting 20 these days, that’s not a bad return. The reason every manager rates him is because they have an ounce of tactical football understanding – unlike some people on here.

The Thing is By Rights Shola Was Nearly Finished Because of Injury so he has Done Well to get back Were he is. Would you lot rather play Ranger who doesn’t score or Play Shola ?? He may be a bit slow and lazy but he can score… Talking of Lazy Gits Look at Ranger HE should be sold or sent out on loan and Get someone else in !!! Give Young Kazenga LuaLua a chance next season .. Phil Airey should be given a chance also !!!!!! On The Subject of Ashley and The Board We had the same old Crap over 30 years ago and its still the same it was Westwood’ seymour all that lot so what has changed ?? we sold Supermac then & we have sold Carroll Now so The Difference is ?? Mind You We would be Better of With Joe Harvey Than Mr Pardew !!!!

Shola has an eye for opportunities, he can read play, and has the tactical understanding to help up front. Yes, he’s been injury prone, and he isn’t always on top form, but which striker is? Admittedly, his legs seem to be going, so I agree on bringing in a new striker or 2.
Lovenkrands meanwhile, in recent games has impressed me. His movement off the ball is intelligent, and is nearly always where he needs to be. His pace is also impressive.

You might say ameobi is lazy, he has fantastic morals and is also 100% commited to the club, he also gets goals every now and again so imo he should be a sub, but selling him is slightly silly. @magpie999

i do agree that Shola is the laziest and one of the crappiest striker ever play for NUFC, the reason people stick for him is because he is a GEORDIES – thats all!

he is not a LOYAL player because there is NO CLUB IN THE WORLD would like to signed him. Even his loan deal at Stoke City didnt want to SIGN him

he is that crap, not even championship club want him!

he is very frustating to watch but cut him some slack. when the going gets tough you can count on him….hence hence his record against the scum….

no other club would want to sign him. Not even a league 1 team

he will get one good game every 20 games he played

even the AGEING Kuqi can run faster than Ameobi

Ameobi been a 3/10 footballers but because he is a geordies then people rate him 9/10 (same level as MESSI)

Shola has put his future health on the line to play over the last couple of months.
He played for 2 seasons needing an operation on his hip but had to wait as Shearer kept getting cropped and he had to bail us out.

Perhaps he looks crap on the internet or wherever you watch games.

not doubting his commitment, but with his height, strength and experience, he should be scoring every time Joey puts a ball in the box.

Ranger hasn’t scored, but he’s eager and will break his duck soon and the goals should flow.

Ameobi playing style follow the steps of Asprilla, but Asprilla lazy attitude like got good skills and good finish. Ameobi is a poor version of Asprilla

Ranger is now trying to follow Ameobi. Ameobi gave bad influence to young players…

@Magpie 999 – It’s difficult to say how unpleasant you come across.

I do got to matches- and always have done. Shola is far from perfect- very frustrating at times, but continues to help a pretty average current NUFC side to win valuable points. Wigan 2-0 down, we’re dead and buried – he came on – scored one, set up the 2nd, all in the last 10 mins. Sunderland, Chelsea.. also spring to mind.

I feel sorry for you that you could hate one of your own players so much. His regional/club loyalty is important because – we spend so long bemoaning the lack of it from players such as Carroll and Owen, etc.

If shola went, you’d aim your bile at someone else… it’s just the way some people are. Very sad.

Shola scores i do agreed but he is 5% good and 95% shit. Its the same with Saylor, we all try to defend him cause he is a Geordies but football-wise Ameobi is the most crap striker in the premierleague. He played 10 yrs for the club, he never that consistent (he cant ever score more than 10 goals)

Stop saying Ameobi is LOYALTY – i said this thousands of time. The reason he stick with NUFC is because NO OTHER CLUB would want to sign him! the only single club who want him was stoke(during his loan period) but even them realise shola ameobi is not even championship quality
