Important For Newcastle To Keep Barton, Nolan And Enrique

We had an article out on Sunday saying that Joey Barton would sign a three year deal at the club.

Joey Barton – wants to stay on Tyneside

And there’s a good report in the Evening Chronicle today, where a source close to Joey himself, has come out and said Joey indeed wants to stay on Tyneside.

A source close to Joey Barton (Joey? :D) told the Evening Chronicle today:

“Joey wants to stay at Newcastle because he is happy here.” “He may be opinionated at times, but he hasn’t forgotten what Newcastle did for him during his time at the club.”

“And he’s got a lot of respect for all of the staff there, from the manager down.” “There has been talk that he was ready to quit the club, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. “His main priority is to stay here – and always has been.”

“Joey has got a great rapport with the Newcastle fans who obviously appreciate his efforts on the pitch, and he wants that relationship to continue.”

It seems that Joey had enormous respect for manager Alan Pardew (as he did for Chris Hughton), and it’s both for Alan as a person and as a coach too, since Pardew has impressed the Newcastle players with his knowledge of the game.

We hope that Pardew will be having a huge influence with Joey and other players behind the scenes, and we fully expect Barton to sign a new deal at the club this summer, and we just hope Newcastle can give him a fair deal.

It’s players like Joey, Jose Enrique and Kevin Nolan that Newcastle need to keep this summer, as they provide a great backbone for the side, with new recruits arriving in the summer.

And we are also doing our best to keep Jose Enrique at the club, and had an article out this morning urging fans to write to Jose asking him to stay on Tyneside. We don’t know if it will have any impact, but you don’t win the lottery if you don’t buy a ticket.

If these three players do stay on Tyneside, and with Ben Arfa, Dan Gosling and possibly Stephen Ireland all fit and ready for next season, there’s six very good players right there, and that’s without the new arrivals in the summer.

It’s starting to look good to us.

Comments welcome.

I believe Nolan and Barton will stay with NUFC. Enrique is a doubt in my mind but I equally dont think he is obviously going come summer, he said he wouldnt talk contracts until we were safe which we arent yet. And even when we are he may still wait til summer to see what happens.

Liverpool or Bayern Munich wouldn’t sign Nolan or Barton – but they would sign Enrique. Thats why Enrique will probably go and the other two will stay.

Nolan and Barton won’t get a bigger club than NUFC and they know it – if they get extended contracts now its a good deal for both player and club.

Very important players, indeed. But hope the club won’t be hold ransom. I’m not sure what Enrique is on at the moment, and he has probably earned himself a better deal. Barton and Nolan are probably close to staggering £50 a week, and are they really better than that?

I also find it quit puzzling to extend Nolans contract five years at once… If the reports are right, that is. He is nearing his thirties, and he’s not exactly fast as it is. I think he should be given 2-3 years to prove himself and earn an etension beyond that.

Totally agreed. But i think Enrique is already on a 54 k a week, so its rather a reduction of the wage that are on the table.. Thats

The 3 lads mentioned Ben Arfa, Gosling and Ireland will ‘be’ like having 3 new signings next season and 3 very attacking quality players at that!
Keeping Nolan and Barton who are the heart of our squad is so important, more important than Enrique who is the star of our squad. Would love to keep all three but like so many others am ready to concede that Jose will go, I only hope it’s not Liverpool.
You can’t build your team around a LB to ‘be’ honest and there will be players out there who can do a very good job. £12-15 million I’d snap your hand off!

Regarding Nolan what does it matter if he’s 28 or 33?
He’s never had skill or pace, age isn’t going to change that! He’ll become more experienced and his timing and putting himself about are what makes him. Players like McAllister, Scholes, Bracewell all played at the highest level well into there 30’s. Too many fans are willing to write players off when they get the wrong side of 28.
Look at the Italian sides, they all have average ages of 30 plus, bloody hell they won a world cup with one!

In the remaining 4 games who would like to see some of our fringe players go out there and get a proper chance. If Enrique is off then play Ferguson the experience would be great for him. Also give Ranger a proper run out not 10 minutes here and there so we can see what he is made off. I would also like to see Airey make a few appearances from the bench. We have some great youngs so give them experience now and if they prove they can do a job it means we don’t have to go out and spend 50 million pound if we have players here already capable of doing a job.

Enrique would be a huge blow as he would get in to any top 4 team.

Nolan and Barton not so much as they aren’t aren’t exactly fit, young, mobile and fast. These deals will take them to 34 !!

This summer will show what Ashley REALLY intends to do with the club. With the Carroll cash to spend we will see just how ambitious he is. Can he run the club properly??

“Enrique would get into any top 4 team” – which is why he’s going in the summer! Can’t blame him really. He’s good enough to play at the very top level – he’s not a Geordie – he’s coming into his prime and wants to play for Spain.

Nolan’s getting a big contract because he’ll stay at the club past his playing career. It’s as if he’s been the manager at times. Especially when Hughton left – he held the locker room together. No one deserves a long contract as much as he does. Unsung hero.

We always said we missed a Rob Lee – we’ve got Kev Nolan man!

Not so sure if we need Joses services next season, good player no doubt about that, but where’s all the assists or goals that he has made? This season 0 assistss and 0 goals, or am I wrong?

NUFC should sign up Nolan on a long term deal, mainly for his leadership than skills.

He seem to be the only captain at present who is able to stabilize the team when in need, or speak up to the ref on certain issues.

You can have all the talent on the pitch but you’re never gonna do well without a leader on the pitch. You’ll only end up like a poor orchestra without a conductor, violins trying to be louder than the trombones but never sound pleasant. In short, something like the self-destructing Arsenal.

Anybody notice how he said he had support for the whole staff team from the manager down? Thus excluding the laurel and hardy.
