Oh No – Stephen Ireland Injured Again – Out For The Season

Bad news today that Stephen Ireland has injured his ankle and is out for the rest of the season.

Stephen Ireland – 3rd injury – out for season

That’s not the first injury a Newcastle player has sustained in training this year, and we’d love to know what goes on during the training, with Leon Best, Shola Ameobi, Steve Harper and Stephen Ireland (twice) being injured in training this year alone.

Thats’ the second injury the Irishman has sustained, since recovering from his initial knee injury, which he had when he first arrived on Tyneside almost three months ago, and there should be no way the club should now sign him permaneently.

Maybe they can get Ireland on a season long loan deal next season, and see if his injury problems persist.

Ireland has made just two substitute appearances for Newcastle since his January arrival from Aston Villa, and those were the last two games, against against Manchester United and Blackpool.

This is also a blow to then Newcastle side, because he’s another top player out for the season, and joins Alan Smith, Ben Arfa, Dan Gosling and Leon Best. Newcastle are again down to the bare bones.

Alan Pardew should consider all the injuries that have been sustained since he arrived on Tyneside, and make sure his squad is big enough next season to put up with what will likely to be a high  number of injuries to his players.

This is getting to be as bad as the Graeme Souness era, in terms of the number of injuries the players pick up in training.

Comments welcome.

Very disappointing to see Ireland injured for the whole season, looks extremely unlikely we’ll sign him. He must be gutted.

This is why Aston Villa loaned him out. I’m not knocking his football skills, just his desire to stay fit and play. He has had this problem for years now starting at Man City. Definitely a bats in the belfry type. Send him back to Aston Villa, or better yet maybe Michael Owen can hire him as his trainer. They can probably just manage to kick a balloon around together without getting injured (at least for a few minutes, training gets boring after that).

I personally think this will enable us to get him on the cheap

I would of loved to sign Ireland, but this is his 3rd injury (I think) since he has been here, I think it would be safer to look elsewhere, very unfortunate.

In that photo he looks like he’s got a bit of a gut on him.

Looks like he’s walking down the beach at Whitley Bay, all he needs is a hanky on his head.

Could be that cheap looking shirt, is that a bra design across the chest?

I can’t say I agree Nemo. He was injured with a knee, then goes down with a thigh problem, now an ankle. I don’t really care if he was trying to prove his worth. He hasn’t. And as people have mentioned here, he didn’t exactly go in ferociously into tackles. I heard he got hurt at Blackpool, but how I’ll never know.

Only way I’d consider signing him is if it’s pay per play loan, which gives us a playing option without any cost if he breaks down again. Other than that it’s Villa’s problem.

signing him would be rediculous, there’s obviously a problem with his fitness. I don’t see the logic in paying money for him.

No nimo you are right he wasn’t injured much at City he just couldn’t be bothered half the time. Look at him. His gut is huge. His attitude has always been poor and as others have said he doesn’t exactly tackle ferociously. Owen had talent too but no motivation. Get rid.

The injury issue is one that is ours not his. Every player we have gets injured (or suspended) to the extent that only 1 of our players has player evey match.

We need to sort out the injuries. Ireland was unlucky. He has been injured twice while on loan here. A specialist needs to decide whether Irelands injury was his injury prone-ness or our unique way of hurting our own players. Only he can say whether we should sign Ireland.

Hard luck to Ireland and all the best to him. Next season pay a mill to Villa to have him on a pay as you play loan deal til January and if he stays fit buy him then for a set price. Say 5 million.

There’s been way too many injuries over the years. Would be nice if they finally investigated why. Change the training ground, the way players warm up, something…

I remember Fat Sam said he was going to look into it, but nothing happened, and fortunately he wasn’t around very long.

shouldn’t even be thinking of offering a permanent deal…..another loan and see what happens is best he can hope for…..I would be looking elsewhere…he’s done nothing for two years……fits the Mackem remit perfectly….

@cwarr07: Joey Barton at Newcastle races with his agent Willie Mackay, new contract agreed #nufc

@cwarr07: #nufc transfer plans firming up, delegation currently in France talking to clubs involved to agree fees etc…..
    3 players targeted.

I would guess (if true) 3 from gervinho, gameiro, sow, m’bengue and maybe matuidi.

Forget about him,not worth the risk.We could get someone who is less injury free for that money(5 mill)….and + we have Dan Gosling who can cover that position in case we dont get anyone. How much Chris Brunt would cost does anyone know?
    He’s been excellent lately.

Hmm, perhaps a bit too injury prone.

If another loan…maybe, otherwise maybe not!

Not sure we can call him on his gut though.

I agree with Mavis. We should now go to villa and say how an injured player is no good to anyone so maybe we could get him 4 like 2 mil!!!! I don’t think he is injury prone it’s just that he hasn’t played 1st team football for 2 years!!!!

The Club need someone to guide the players to take care of themselves.

But players are just good enough to last us a season. Colo is just an example, maybe Guti and Bull is also good example. Btw, these are an example of imports players but it doesnt makes an different anyway.

They are always there when we needed them dont you think so.

We are playing liverpool next there goes my hope of watching Stephen Ireland playing for us in the midfield.

Too injury pro, with our injury jinx sometimes. He will get injury more often then not. So there goes my answer. Get someone else in.

I would rather someone less better but fitter. So he will be there when we needed him always.

Skills and technic can always improve with time but injury will always stick with you.

He is a Good Player But If he is Going to be injured and we get 2 Months a year from him Why Waste Big Money On Him ?? We have to Many of that sort of player as it is . Sorry Stephen Back to The Midlands My Son !!!! We need Players That Will Stay Fit and Can Do a Bit, Not pay 50 -60 grand a week to sit in the stand inujred 10 months a year !!!

He has played a Total of 51 Minutes for us. Amazing stuff.

Yes its true BUT that doesnt mean he is about to leave, but it doesnt point to that, also i remember Jose having Facebook connected to all NUFC fans then the FIRST day the rumours of him saying wanting to go and rumours to leave he quit Facebook this showed me he wants to distance himself from us, already made up his mind leaving i reckon.

If you see your best player be sold that doesnt show progress does it? even for the crazy sum that was paid.

The Toon can’t afford another Michael Owen permanent sicknote on their hands.
One way ticket back to where he came from I’m afraid.
Really expected much more from him than this.

With regard to Ireland signing for us, the most sensible thing I have heard is Ed’s suggestion to try and get him on season long loan next season? He could deffo do a job for us, if he can recapture his form, so lets give him that chance if he wants to come here.

Depends Wyn if they really dont want him they could sell him cheap OR clauses added to contract like NUFC pay AFC 500k once he plays 30 games etc…
But if they wont budge on his crazy price tag of over £5 M then dont bother you can tell a player who gets in a space of 3 months, 3 Injuries. 1 after another = Injury Prone.

Maybe Jose has realised it’s time to buy a house and stop pretending he’s a student in Jesmond! Even if he does go as long as we replace him like for like and we get a decent price for him I won’t be too bothered. He’s been a good servant to us the past 2 years and it’s not surprising that he feels that he can play at a higher level than us as he could. People will say liverpool is a sideways step for him if he goes there but they are an established club throughout Europe and surely that will increase his chance of playing for Spain. The reason he is going imo is to get into the Spain squad

But tbh Jose cares more for Spain callup rather than anything else and at NUFC its harder to get noticed by the Spanish scouts/manager BUT joining Liverpool will have the same problem the Spanish team HATE spanish players leaving La Liga thats why in Main setup the terriblly overated Sergio Busquets gets ahead of Cesc Fabregas BECAUSE Sergio plays in Spain and same issue with David Silva.

I think Alan Pardew should thank him e tell him to find another club. He is prone to injuries, and his relationship with his previous clubs are not very good. I wouldn`t sign him at the end of the season.
