There’s been news in the last week or so that Kenny Dalglish at Liverpool plans a big clear out in the summer of some of his many fringe players.
Paul Konchesky – Liverpool fringe player
And Newcastle may be interested in picking up some of the players, maybe.
A reported Anfield source told the Evening Chronicle today:
“There will be a lot of movement at Liverpool this summer.”
“And it’s no secret here that players will be offloaded to make way for new signings.”
“There will be players offered out to numerous Premier League clubs, including Newcastle United.”
There may already be a deal done with Liverpool for left back Jose Enrique, and it may be that Newcastle try to get some of Liverpool’s fringe players in part exchange.
Paul Konchesky is a left back and his name will likely be mentioned in possibly coming the other way in any Enrique deal, but we don’t think he’s good enough for Newcastle, it’s as simple as that.
Paul is a very decent player and has great experience in the Premier League, and some years ago Bobby Robson was interested in the player when he was a youngster at Charlton Athletic, but at 29 years old he’s not Newcastle’s future.
Another player who may be offered to Newcastle is David N’Gog, the 17 times capped France U21 striker, who joined Liverpool from PSG in 2008.
But again he’s a fringe player at Liverpool, and we think we can do better than this Frenchman in the summer, although he has just one year left on his contract, and could possibly be picked up at a decent price.
And at just 22 years old, David could still improve and he has a decent record at Liverpool, with 19 goals in 91 appearances for The Reds.
So it seems that Newcastle will have some options with Liverpool players but we don’t think either of the above players will really fit the bill at Newcastle.
And that also includes England International Joe Cole, who will very likely return to some London club in the summer.
