Newcastle Reported After South Korean International Striker

There is some news today that Newcastle United are looking to South Korea for a new striker.

Ji Dong-won – 19 year-old 6’2″ striker

The Daily Mail is reporting today that Newcastle’s Chief Scout, Graham Carr, whose star is rising on Tyneside, visited South Korea last weekend to watch Ji Dong-won.

The 19-year-old 6’2″ striker plays for Chunnam Dragons, which is located in the Korean city of Gwangyang, and the club plays in the Korean K-League.

Ji Dong-won has represented South Korea 9 times so far and has hit 5 goals, and the Jeju, Jeju-do born player, who turns 20 next month,  has played 32 times for his club side with 13 goals since last year.

It’s hard to know how good the youngster is, but at least Newcastle seem to be scouring the world for good young talent to bring to Tyneside.

Maybe some of our South Korean readers can tell us how good this 19 year-old striker is.

Ji Dong-won would be one for the future, if the Newcastle club end up signing the youngster.

Comments always welcome.

    Monster haha 🙂

Wouldn’t surprise me if this was solely a move by Ashley to advertise the club in Asia.

Ji Dong-won sounds good, but has had trouble settling in everywhere he has gone (was on loan to Reading at one point)

Also, he has only played in the K-League so I think it would be a big transition for him.

    Age: 19
    Height: 6? 1?
    Apps/Goals: 32/13 – Club Level (0.41 goals/game)
    Apps/Goals: 24/13 – National Level (0.54 goals/game)

My moment of Bragging has arrived 🙂 I mentioned this on a post around 3-4weeks ago and got sod all in way of attention. But it seems more likely now than when I posted it, considering he was just on my youngster wish-list.

I am sorry if you guys think I am daydreaming.

But I realise that James Milner no longer feature for Manchester City. It appers that the lad is out of favour. He is still young, energetic, has an eye for goal and can cross the ball.

I was wondering maybe we could make an audacious bid for the England winger. I reckon 10 ~ 15 million will be enough to bring Milner back to Tyneside.

Having a midfield that consist of Ben Arfa, Barton, Tiote and Milner will look very threathening. We will also have Gosling, Nolan, Spidy and Guthrie as back-up.

not a chance. Why would milner come for 50k wages when his wages at city are probably near double that. Also, as far as i’m concerned, mercenaries like him aren’t welcome back.

carlton – the reason you put a wage structure in place is to stop the runaway wage bill – remember Shearers alleged ‘top earner’ clause. Its one of the very few things that FatAsh has got right and it wont be broken for Enrique – especially if we get an offer in excess of 15M

Back to the Korean, I think it’s good that our scouts are reaching asia. Japan and Korea are producing good players at cheap prices nowadays. I dun think its a problem for them adapting or stepping up. Look at Lee @ Bolton, superb player and was their player of the year in his first season. Kagawa, was instrumental in Borussia Dortmond’s excellent start to the season and was widely tipped to move to a bigger club half a season into Europe. And to think he moved from a Japanese div 2 side.

Milner worked hard and put in some good performances, but was overrated IMO.
Selling him when we did, for what we got, was good business.

What ManC paid for him was crazy.

    toonincheek,

    You could have written:

“What ManC paid for (Insert name here) was crazy.”

Maybe I’m wrong, but a billion pounds for a 5th and 4th in the league is not a good return so far.

If not too much money would be a good signing, i was hoping we could buy an exciting youngster upfront, i was thinking Brazilian but this guy looks a good prospect, and with Lee Chung-Yong (Bolton) and Park (Man U) he will find it easier to get adapted to England as Lee said Park helped him massively to settle in.

Also havent seen him linked with loads of clubs which will favour us.
And 6ft2 with nice ball skills and technical ability he seems suited for us.

Just read the report they say its our “Plan B” as we got rebuffed in a bid for Kevin Gameiro of £8 Million.

Graham Carr was scotuing in South Korea, strange area for him to go but obviouslly he was the target to watch. On a bad note he was at Reading FC at 16/17 but didnt settle in England, maybe a little bit older this will help him settle (OR) with another south korean at our club like Park Chu Young or something.
