Has Bidding War For Jose Enrique Already Started?

It could be that a bidding war is brewing for Newcastle’s top left-back Jose Enrique.

Jose Enrique – has been great for Newcastle

Let’s be clear from the start, that we would love for Jose to stay on Tyneside, because he’s a good player and been very loyal to the club in his nearly four years on Tyneside, and he always gives 100% when he pulls on the famous black and white shirt of Newcastle.

However, if the Spaniard wants to leave, we’ll be honest and say we’d like nothing better than a bidding war to develop between the interested club, who are currently  said to be Liverpool, Bayern Much and AC Milan, although there may be others enter the fray.

According to reports in Germany today, Newcastle have received an official bid from German Champions Bayern Munich for Jose, who is now 25 years old.

Jose has only 14 months left on his five year contract, and he was signed by  then manager Sam Allardyce in August of 2007 for £6.2M from Villareal, and after a difficult first season, Jose has turned out to be a terrific buy for the club.

The German reports don’t know exactly how much has been bid for the player, but are reporting it’s definitely in excess of the £9M Liverpool have said to have offered for the player.

There are different amounts being touted around in terms of the fee, and Liverpool legend Phil Thompson a couple of weeks ago said Liverpool would pay £15M for Enrique, but that seems a lot of money for a player with just over a year of his contract left – but we’ll take it. 😀

As we said, we hope Jose stays on Tyneside, and there’s still a chance he will do just that, but if he does leave, let’s make sure Newcastle get as much as they can for him, and invest that money in this summer’s transfer market, in terms of fees and wages for players who are coming to Tyneside.

Comments welcome.

Bayern are having a massive overhaul of their squad, hold out for every penny and hopefully liverpool will keep pushing up the price.

I think the only question left is, what club is he going to – it will be interesting to see how he does against liverpool though, putting himself in the shop window and hopefully bumping up the price

If Enrique does go I don’t want him to be the best LB in the PL. I don’t mind him being the best LB in the Bundesliga or the Serie A. But not the PL.

Looks like Gervinho will be a no-go also If he leaves Lille it will only be for a team in Europe, Balls!!

gervinho said he wants european football next year, so its no use with him. I think kevin doyle and shane long would be two decent buys, not too expensive and would work for the team – granted not going to get bucket loads of goals but with their work rate alone would create a fair few.

It would be stupid not to look at somebody like van nistelrooy on a free transfer on the right wages, the guy has goals written all over him…. even if it was just for a season – but i think pardew will look elsewhere so its probably a no go

if he wants to go let him go and then we can replace him and move on, if wigan go down we should replace him figeroa and get n’zogbia, rodellega those 3 players could turn us into a top 6-8 contender i’am not to bothered with how much we spend as long as we improve some come sept 1st we can say yeah we are better than we was mid may quality and progress is more important than whether we spend 25m on a single player

I think the fee will end up being £12-15m. Could conceivably get Gibbs, Van Aanholt and have some spare change! Would be great battle to see who gets the jersey between those two, both have potential to be better than Enrique, in my opinion.

Well well this is a surprise , Pardew said earlier today ‘ one of the most difficult parts of the game, convincing players that the future here is bright, doesn’t sound very promising on just keeping our best players, nevermind buying better one’s. Forget the cream of young talent in europe, championship players it will be then..
