Leeds United have announced their first pre season friendly of the summer.
They are in 7th position in the Championship, a full three points behind 6th placed Nottingham Forest, but Forest have a better goal difference by 6 goals.
So even a Leeds win at QPR next weekend and a Nottingham Forest defeat at Crystal Palace may not be enough, after Forest increased their goal difference with a Scunthorpe 5-1 hammering yesterday.
Maybe Leeds can get promoted next season, and we hope that’s the case.
Newcastle United will play Leeds United at Elland Road on the weekend of July 30th and 31st, but no announcement of this has yet come from Newcastle, who will be back from their USA tour by then.
Leeds last faced Newcastle in pre season at St James Park in the summer of 2009, after Newcastle had been relegated to the second division and Leeds at the time were playing in the third tier of English football.
Both sides were promoted last year and there’s a chance, a very very slim chance, that Leeds could get promoted again in May.
But maybe that will come next season for the famous Leeds United club, who reached the semi-finals of the European Champions League in 2001.
