Newcastle Interested In Kenyan Midfielder

We saw the  report yesterday and thought this youngster could be an excellent signing for Newcastle.

Victor Wanyama – 6’2″ Kenyan defensive midfielder

There was news that various Premier League clubs were after defensive midfielder Victor Wanyama, who is the younger brother of 24 year-old Inter Milan midfielder Mcdonald Mariga.

The clubs reported to be interested in this Kenyan, who turns 20 next month, are Aston Villa, Birmingham, Sunderland and Newcastle, and the youngster has said it would be a dream for him to join a Premier League club.

Cheick Tiote is the firsy choice defensive midfielder at Newcastle, but has had far too many yellow cards this season, and since returning from his two match ban he has managed to pick up a yellow card in each of the last two games.,

That tells us Cheick is going to miss games next season as well – he;’s missed 6 games this season through his various cautions,  and when he’s been out of th side, Newcastle have now looked good in midfield.

So surely Newcastle will try to bring in some player this summer, who can fill the position of defensive midfield when Tiote is not playing.

The 19-year-old midfielder is currently playing for Germinal Beerschot Antwerpen in the Jupiler Pro League, the top football league in Belgium.

This is what Wanyama said about the news that Premier League clubs may have an interest in him:

“I am very excited to be linked with Premier League clubs. But nothing is done yet, it is paper talk,”

“But it is a dream for me to play one day in one of the top leagues in Europe and there is no better at the moment than the English league.”

From what we can find out Victor has played around 32 times for Beerschot Antwerpen, and was on loan in 2009 to Mathare United, a club that plays in his native Kenya.

The 6’2″ midfielder (it must be those McDonald’s hamburgers) had joined Swedish club Helsingborg IF in 2005, before joining his current club in 2007.

Wanyama made his debut for the Kenyan national team back in 2007, when he was just 15, in a friendly game against Nigeria.

It seems that this lad could be a star in the making,  and we wouldn’t mind seeing him arrive at Newcastle in the summer.

Comments welcome.

Jeez how much money do people think Pardew is getting for gods sake… at the last count, I’ve seen peeps say we need replacements or back up for the following positions:

CB to play 1st team along side Colo,
DMF – to cover Tiote while suspended,
LB – to replace Enrique when he leaves,
RB – to play 1st team instead of Simpson,
RW – so Barton can play MF,
LW – so Jonas can play RW,
ST – to replace Lover, Strola, Xisco & Carroll..

At this rate, we’ll be buying several £2m-£3m players to fill all those positions & there aren’t that many Tiote’s out there for that sort of price imo….

Personally I think we need 2 strikers, 1 natural left winger & a replacement for Enrique should he leave, if after those positions are filled we still have some money spare, then look at other positions for cover only…

Please not people like Bothroyd, even on a budget surely we can do much much better.

I like the sound of this Kenyan guy. It’s things like that and Graham Carr that I like about the current set up. It’s just we need a good manager to bring it altogether. Doesn’t have to be a big name, but any one of Clark, Poyet or Paul Llambert would be a huge improvement on Pardwho and would get us playing decent football where the ball stays on the ground for a change.

    Davybtoon,

I think everyone on here agrees with you that wholesale changes like you’re suggesting are whats needed, but can you honestly see that many people coming in and leaving the club this summer?

I know we should have the cash and its pretty much necessary but clubs dont often make such sweeping changes, at least in 1 transfer window. It would take all the new players awhile to gel with the squad, especially if they’re from a foreign league. We all know how long it took colo, guti and jose to adapt to the english game.

Theres a much higher chance of finding Bin Laden having a cheeky pint in The Strawberry than there is of Shola breaking into a run like.

I just want to see a couple of proven strikers.
Kevin Doyle from Wolves would be a good start, Van Nistleroy would also be a good signing, he’s still good enough to play for Holland so he’s good enough for the Toon.
Pardew needs to get tough with his squad. If there not good enough or wrong attitude then get rid!!!!!!!

Shola Ameobi doesn’t show the right attitude yet the lazy twat plays every game and gets picked by ever manager. If that sorry excuse for a footballer gets a new contract I will go mental! I still can’t believe he is in our team and how managers keep praising the lucky idiot. I can’t stand him anymore sell him now or we will NEVER PROGRESS!!!

    AMEOBI OUT!!!!

His inconsistency and lack of any real talent drive me insane!!!!

I thinnk Strolla must be buying the managers a car for xmas and bringing them an apple every day to training.
I can think of any other reason hes still at the club.
I would rather have Vukic or Airey on anyday.
I hope Pards plays Ferguson and Ranger vs Brummies, at least they try and have pace and desire, not the finished article but will both give more in 1 game than Strolla gives in a season.

i don’t know what some off yous got against shola, he’s has got better this last 2 seasons and he’s are best ST at minute and i think for once he’s PL standard. yeah he’s had few bad games but its lovenpants who’s the problem. you wouldn’t know he’s on the pitch, he’s not much of a option up font, i think we should sell him. we should get 2 1st team ST and keep shola, best and ranger for back up

Be real! The only Shola still playing all these madness years is because we don’t have any other CFs better than him in qualities & experiences. Now we know we can bet on Best doing the job but surely we must buy some more. ASAP.

Could it be someone or a player himself coming here & selling Shola’s potentials?

Please, let’s put up a poll of whether or not we want Shola Ameobi in our next season’s 1st team, Ed?
