The new Puma home strip was officially revealed yesterday and it hasn’t gone down too well with Newcastle fans.
Kevin Nolan – wearing new strip – why the yellow and where’s the blue?
We have an active poll going, with over 1700 voters so far – you are allowed only one vote – and 57% don’t like the new strip with 30% liking it and the rest not sure.
The major problem with the strip seems to be the lack of stripes, with only one black stripe at the front – and why the yellow in the Newcastle crest and the Puma emblem?
Newcastle fans will tell you they have earned their strips – and don’t like them being taken away.
We always thought the pale blue was a great third color for the Newcastle strip – as you can tell from our web-site design – but so far Puma have not used any of the pale blue at all in any of the two strips they have so far produced for Newcastle.
The Puma contract only lasts through next season, and you have to hope a couple of things will happen after that.
One is that Newcastle will negotiate a much better financial deal from Puma – if the club stays with them – now Newcastle are back where they belong in the Premier League.
And the second is that if Newcastle retain Puma, then the German manufacturer will come up with some much better looking strips – and get that beautiful pale blue color back on the strips somewhere.
This new strip has not captured the Newcastle fans’ imagination – and that’s probably putting it mildly.
With that strange yellow strip last season, and the same yellow coming back into the strips for next season, is yellow Mike Ashley’s favorite color?
Update: After this story was first published one of our readers, ElvenKind, has said the yellow trim is only a limited edition for season ticket holders (?),and the actual strip to be worn next season is shown below:
That makes me feel a little better – it looked like we were going towards the Juventus strip – which of course has yellow as the third major color.
Here’s the active poll which will show the results if you’ve already voted- if not here’s your chance to vote.
