Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has today said that a broken arm will keep defender Mike Williamson out for the rest of the season.
Mike Williamson – breaks arm in training today
So it seems like it’s yet another injury picked up in training – what are these guys doing in training to pick up so many of these injuries this year?
This is what Alan Pardew said today:
“He was being supervised at the time it happened.” “It was just a genuine injury and he had a slight weakness in that arm as he has hurt it before and unfortunately that has been the issue.”
“Obviously it is disappointing and he wanted to finish the season.” “For us the focus is now on Steven Taylor who has been patient in the background but now has an opportunity.”
“That is how football works sometimes – it gives you a chance at a strange time.” “It was a freak injury and really unfortunate for Mike who will miss the end of the season.”
It’s lucky that we have Steven Taylor ready to slot in, and it’s a big chance for the local lad to show he can still be a first teamer at Newcastle. That statement about when one door closes another opens is really true.
But we are getting increasingly worried about all these injuries being picked up in training this year, and Alan Pardew will need to increase the size of his squad for next season.
Otherwise, Newcastle could be down to the bare bones sooner than we think next season.
It’s an excellent chance for Steven Taylor to show what he can do against Birmingham City on Saturday.
Comments welcome.

Comment #2WTF is going on?? You don’t break bones in training!! I’m starting to get annoyed at the amount of training injuries we get, it’s getting silly now AP needs to take a real good look at whats going on.

Comment #7A broken arm is hardly due do training methods lol. Like they said – a freak accident.
And incase anyone hadn’t noticed, Sunderland have also had horrendous injury problems.
It’s because it’s so cold in the winter, and until now Newcastle didn’t have undersoil heating on the training pitch. So they have to train inside, which anyone would tell you naturally leads to a lot of muscle injuries.

Comment #10Its a bone in his arm not his whole arm though. But they said it was a Freak accident.
http://www.physioroom.com/news/english_premier_league/epl_injury_table.php
Says we have 6 but thats not including Ireland/Williamsson/ So thats 9 which is the worst in the EPL plus we have the 2nd smallest squads in EPL ahead of Blackpool, and they dont think we need alot of players brought in.
Plus with Vuckic coming back from injury and Ameobi injured every few games, Routledge on loaned out, Ryan Taylor just coming back after months and months out, Perch been injured, Harper coming back.
Damm there has only been less than a handfull of players who have kept fit, its either Pardews training or the weather and conditions on the training ground.

Comment #18For this many injuries, the training methods have got be overly physical and competitive. Good sides have passive training where there is no tackling, just blocking. Kudos to pardew for getting undersoil heating, but presumably they are training outside now.

Simple, in those markets sometimes you can find a bargain, Keisuke Honda went from VVV who were in the 2nd division of Erdivisie and went for only a few million after he made his name.
Kagawa left Cerzo Osaka for 350k now worth like 10/15 Million, Shinji Okazaki left Japan for FREE to Stuttgart.
Back in Erdivisie if you think the leading top scorer was just sold for around 2.5Million Björn Vleminckx who has 23 goals in 31 games.
Kolbeinn Sigthórsson who is young, has 15 goals is worth around 2.5/3 Mill
Luc Castaignos has joined Inter atm doing amazingly well sold for around 2M
In Holland most are very well priced.

but why are they cheap because we could arguably sell tiote for 20 mill after one season and he may not have improved as a footballer at all i dont get why premier league players cost so much more

Comment #24Perfect transfer window for me is:
INS:
Ashley Williams – Free
Guy Demel – Free
Oscar Wendt – Free(if Jose leaves)
S.Larsson – Free
J.Elmander – Free
P Van Aanholt – £4million
M.Jarvis – £5milion
Gervinho – £9million
Kayal – £6million
K.Gameiro – £10million
D.Graham – £4million
= £38 million on 11 players
OUT:
Campbell – Retired
Kuqi – Retire/Release
Perch – £1million
Smith – £1.5million
Guthrie – £2million
Lovenkrands – £1million
R.Taylor – £2million
Xisco – £2million
Routledge – £2million
= £11.5million
then the spare money we can go and sign Kayal from celtic as cover for Tiote.. and hopefully we can bring in someone like Connor Wickham and loan him back to Ipswich or championship team for a season with a guarentee that he will play games.

i had the same problem when in hong kong i asked everywhere and in the end found a empty bar in some red light area in kowloon.
That was the blackburn game we drew 0-o and the birmingham game i watched it in a o learys bar in yai mai tai but that was at 3 45 am as it was mid week game!
Someone will have it u just have to ask around just before kick off as everywhere just advitises to show mancs liverscum or arsenal.

Comment #33we need to bulk our squad up for next year we need 6-7 players if we do lose enrique and barton the amount of injuries freak or not we seem to get at training is unbelievable i hope (as slim as it is) we get gamiero probably be for around 10m and sigthorsson for 3m backing up with ranger and best, get m’bengue and n’zogbia back it up with tabanou and fergie, lens and jonas for the right with demel and simo competing for the rb would be class

Comment #34Billy, wont be announced tomorrow now. There’s been a “delay”.
Personally, I think they need to set an example.
Warnock was so high and mighty when West Ham did it – and that was beforethe laws were even in place. But now he’s changed his tunes hasn’t he!

Comment #36Also in terms of players in my ideal transfer window would be :
Ins: Baines/Izaguirre (one if Enrique goes)
Gibbs/PVA (1 of them for cover)
Phil Jones
Gervinho
Krancjar
Gameiro
Some big guy who can run aswell.
starting X1
Krul
Simpson — P Jones — Collocini –Iza/Bain/Jose
Tiote
Barton
Gervinho ————-Ben Arfa ——-Jonas/Kranc
Gameiro
No idea about prices but think all but baines are realistic
