Cheick Tiote has had an excellent first seaosn for Newcastle, but the Ivory Coast International thinks he can do even better next season.
We’ve heard about Newcastle’s great team spirit but this is ridiculous! đ
And Tiote has come out today and praised his experienced captain Kevin Nolan, for helping him in midfield, and both on and off the pitch.
This is what Cheick told the Newcastle press corps today:
âKevin Nolanâs my man in midfield! Heâs helped me, and done everything for me.” âI want to say thanks to him for that.ââI think Iâve improved as a player this season.”
âIf you are a new player, you have to show the players at the club you have the quality to improve in this team. I think I have done that this season.”
âI hope I do well next season as well â I think I can improve.â âI think this season, my first in England, has been good.” âItâs been very hard, but the team has helped me. Iâm happy for that.”
âWe have to stay together to finish the last games.â âItâs different to last season in Holland, as I wasnât playing too many games.” âNow I have adapted to English football, and Iâm happy with how I have done this season.”
âThe key is now to build on this and carry it through to next season where we hope to have an even better year.â
The big concern about Cheick is of course his disciplinary record, and he’s already been suspended for 6 games this season.
And since he returned three games ago, from his two game suspension for picking up 10 yellow cards, he’s picked up a caution in every one of those games.
So we’d like to see Cheick improve that poor disciplinary record, while not losing his combative qualities in midfield, and of course that’s not an easy thing to do.
And since Cheick will be away at the African Cup of Nations next January, we half expect Newcastle to bring in a defensive midfielder as cover, even if Alan Smith sees out his contract and stays at the club for next season.
That’s not to say Tiote hasn’t had a great season because he has, and for the record Tiote has made 27 appearances for Newcastle with one extra special goal.
And one moment this season most fans will never ever forget, was when Cheick scored that wonderful fourth goal for Newcastle against Arsenal, with just two minutes to go in normal time, and it was his first goal for Newcastle.
That goal completed the greatest come-back in Premier League history and Newcastle drew the game 4-4, after being 4-0 down
Arsenal had scored their four goals in the first 26 minutes of that game, and Newcastle came storming back with their four goals in the last 26 minutes of the game.
Only Newcastle could have done something like that – guts and glory indeed – and Newcastle got fantastic publicity all around the world for that particular miracle.
We’re not asking for a miracle tomorrow, just that the lads turn up and play somewhere near their best, and then Newcastle should be able to get a win against Birmingham – which would be terrific.
Comments welcome.

Comment #5A massive asteroid will fly within the moon’s orbit narrowly missing Earth later this year.
The space rock, called YU55, will hurtle past our planet at a distance of just 201,700 miles during its closest approach on November 8.
That is closer to Earth than the moon, which orbits 238,857miles away on average.
With a width of some 400metres and weighing 55million tons, YU55 will be the largest object to ever approach Earth so close, apparently its just one of sholas shots, slightly off target.

Comment #7CT plays like 2 men already, does that mean next season he will play like 3? Result! I will be over the moon if we sign more players like him, not so much for the position on the pitch, as the return on an investment. He cost very little in comparison to todays inflated fees, and yet his ability is more like a player that cost ten times the amount. I like this philosophy of buying cheap, and getting a fantastic return, so much so, that I would be disappointed if we paid more than 5M for any player now, after all, Michael Owen’s transfer fee wasn’t exactly what you would call a return was it?

Comment #8I just hope we either sell before the transfer window or not at all, otherwise we will end up not getting anyone as usual

Comment #9what I should have added it will be obvious if it comes about because their will be a large booking at the Gosforth park hotel, and a very big private jet at Newcastle airport.

Comment #15I hope and expect he will improve, as his card collecting habit has to be curbed, by a more selective tackling game.
That plus his distribution has to improve, instead of the quick short safe pass , he has to be more observant and look for the runners who may be open.
Making his ball winning role into a quick attacking transitional one.
Hopefully we have people (Carver) who can help him reach these goals.

Comment #16Obviously one of the best players for us this season! He has been absolutely amazing this year. And assuming its his first year he has been tremendous. A great tackler, who completely runs the midfield. Love this player. Hopefully he fulfills his 7 1/2 year deal until 2017/2018 and on….

Comment #17Love this player and we need to buy more quality like him on the cheap. What do you guys think of Owen Hargreaves who can cover when Tiote is in the African Cup and Bellamy for a quick injection of pace up front and he is proven???? Then we could get rid of Ameobi, Perch, Campbell, Smith and Kuqi and replace the with quality signings like Tiote and Ben Arfa.

Comment #18JP- Bellamy said today that he wont play for anyone bar City in the PL so looks like he will be staying at Cardiff, hes a knob anyway past it , much rather get defoe in for a bit of pace- Hargreaves would he stay fit? too risky and he will have high wages

Comment #19jamesnufc86 – I have always liked Defoe and always thought we should have gone in for him ages ago. He can still do the job for us here and we could get him on the cheap.

Comment #20JP/James, am fairly certain Hargreaves is finished, as for Defoe, I don’t think dirty Harry will let him leave cheap. Yes, if he is cheap, he would deffo do a job, and I would much rather have him than most of the other strikers we have been linked with, but given the buy young strategy that is being touted about, I doubt we are even looking for him.

Comment #21WITHOUT him, i think we will be at the relegation zone already.
We need Gosling to be fit so we get a decent DM as his backup. Forget Alan Shith

Comment #23Early to call, but I honestly think he’ll turn out to be our best signing since Shearer if he stays long-term.
Credit to whoever found the lad and talked the club into taking a chance with him, especialy since he hadn’t really played a great deal last year in Holland.
