In Newcastle’s last 14 league games since mid January, they have just two wins, seven draws and five defeats.
Alan Pardew – keen to get a win tomorrow
So in those 14 games Newcastle have picked up only 13 points, and that’s close to relegation form, to be truthful.
Alan Pardew will be hoping for two home wins against Birmingham and WBA to end off the season on a positive note, otherwise Alan’s record will not look all that good since he arrived last December.
To be fair to the 49 year-old Londoner, he has had to operate without big Andy Carroll this year, and of course Leon Best got himself injured and is out for the season after scoring 6 goals in 11 league appearances for Newcastle.
Leon’s is just one of far too many injuries Newcastle players have been picking up this year.
And it’s scoring goals where the obvious Newcastle weakness lies, and in half of the last 12 games, Newcastle haven’t even been able to score a goal, so the lads couldn’t win those games.
Alan is obviously aiming to get one of those rare wins tomorrow, as he told the local Newcastle press corps today:
“This is a big game for Birmingham too.” “For us it is about finishing strongly.” “At Liverpool we did a lot of things very well – but we didn’t hurt them.” “Offensively we need to improve.”
“At Birmingham we got the goals at the right times, and that was important.” “Scoring goals is obviously important to us.” “We have done well in some games at home and we have to continue that.”
“Coming off the two games Birmingham have had, they will be motivated.” “They had a guy sent off in their last game and got a point, and before that they had a similar performance to us at Liverpool – they will want to come out fighting.”
“They will be desperate to get some sort of victory.”
An early goal will be just what Newcastle need tomorrow, and of course captain Kevin Nolan, after apologizing to Newcastle fans for last Sunday’s dismal performance at Liverpool, usually comes up with a goal when it’s important.
We expect Kevin to get a goal tomorrow, and that would be his 13th of the season – unlucky for some.
But if indeed Kevin can get a goal tomorrow, and the defense plays as well as they did against the Red Devils, that may just be enough to capture all three points against a weak looking Birmingham outfit.
The Newcastle side owes the fans a good and gutsy performance tomorrow, that’s for sure.
A win is what we all want to see, and that will raise the spirits of both the Newcastle fans and the players too – and we’ll not even mention how good Alan will feel tomorrow night. 😀

Comment #44dogpoo get’s relegated in his second season so why expect anything other for us, I sure someone can tell us the last manager who had 2 wins out of the last 14. he must be close to Richard Dinnis, or bill mcgarry, only joking he worse than them too, and because of the form of best and shola he did not even need to bring in a forward in January, what will be the outcome, lets hope new owner who loves football more than money. so at least don’t have to add anti depressants to my tablet list as 28 a days too many.

Very nice of you to think so, but probably don’t see as much football as I’d like to.
I have to ‘be’ honest when I was younger I loved seeing players with flare and ability, who doesn’t ?
But over the years I prefer players with heart and commitment. Unsung heros like Williamson, Kevin Davies, etc
Of course these players don’t win you trophies and ideally u need a mix of these type plus skilful ones, if your really lucky you get both like Tiote !
The lad you mentioned I’ve heard good things but haven’t seen a huge amount of.
My good friend Craigcoozy knows his players and of course has a very good source, I’m sure we’ll all hear from him in the coming months.

Comment #47Just read the story on Bentley walking out at Brum. AP and his team should ‘be’ given credit for the players we were offered and declined like that idiot. Such a talent, but has no heart, we’ve bought too many players like him in the past. My faith in our transfer policy only gets stronger, bring on the summer.

Comment #50Jimmybob33- sounds like u have been saving that up for a long time haha, i agree jabba should spend more than the 35mil but I think the last few years have made us all too pesemistic as toon fans to expect any more from the fat sh!t.
Entertainers – I agree with you there we dodged a massive bullet in the case of Bentley, however, looking at the situation now we should of at least bought SOMEBODY or loaned. Im sure if Bentley acted like that here we would have been sent on his way back to spurs, or Joey and Kev would kick his head in

Comment #51PoolieToon – Gotta disagree with ya there buddy. I think we’d be worse off if Hughton were still here. Nolan, Barton and Carroll did most of the work in getting us goals in the first half of the season. I think Hoots would have struggled without AC up front. If Pardew had had that luxury, we’d be better off now.

“Ameobi is SH*T!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
*and costing us points, it’s like playing with 10 men when he’s on.”
Too true. When Ameobi is playing he always breaks up more Newcastle attacks than the opposition defence do.

Comment #53I see what you mean, he did rely on that trio an awful lot, but he had the respect of the full team, but CH brought besty in and he would of given him the same chance pards did i think and worked around that. Its still his team on the pitch but I wonder if the transfer window would be any different if it wasnt Ashley’s spin doctor at the helm

Comment #55One thing is certain. You can’t blame Pardew for any of the injuries we have. He seems to spend more time talking to the press than training the team.

Comment #56We were all disappointed in the Jan’ transfer window. I’m sure the club were too, but I’d rather we held our own and not brought in rubbish like Bentley . We are in a massively positive position in the summer. Yes we have a bit of dead wood in the liked of Campbell and Smith, but those thinking this small squad will ship out player after player are goin to ‘be’ disappointed.
Shola won’t go anywhere, for a start and nor do I think he should. Smith will see out his huge contract too.
I expect to lose 3-4 at the most, Campbell,
Enrique, Lovenkrands and possibley Guthrie.
The £10 million plus we’ll get for Jose will hopefully ‘be’ put in the pot!
Buy look at what’s left we have a solid committed squad that plays for each other and there’s a lot of talent still there. We have 3 international keepers. A world class centre half. An Argentinian winger, 2 England class midfielders in Barton and Nolan, despite there’s critics. We have a massively talented International in Ben Arfa and plenty of quality in the younger generation. With the addition of a world quality striker we have a strong spine of a team.

Comment #57Our strikers were to blame for our poor form lately. They did not take their chances game after game. They are all CC standard at best. Most of our points came from Nolan. He scored in 9 matches and we got 6 wins 2 draws and 1 loss. If we were to score and win tomorrow, it will be from Kevin Nolan.

Comment #58ThaiMag, How can you blame the strikeres? what strikers? From the 3 games I expect no more than 2 points 0-0 draws. If we are very lucky we may hold Chelsea to 0-0, but I doubt it.
