Newcastle have again been linked with West Ham striker Carlton Cole, and that has to be worrying news.
Carlton Cole – worse goals scored record than Ameobi
After losing Andy Carroll to Liverpool, the very last thing we would want to see is to get an ordinary striker like Cole into Newcastle.
If that happens it will show the extent of Newcastle ambition, and it simply not be good enough, because after all this player cannot even keep his place in the West Ham side, and they are bottom of the league.
Apparently Newcastle inquired about the striker on January 31st, after big Andy had been sold to Liverpool, but this class of player will hardly excite Newcastle fans.
Don’t get us wrong, when he’s on form Carlton is an excellent player with good skills, but he reminds us too much of Shola Ameobi, who goes missing in games far too much.
In fact we don’t rate Carlton much better than Shola Ameobi – and Shola has a better goal scoring record – with Shola having 69 goals in 294 club appearances for Newcastle, and Cole, having just 53 goals in 248 club appearances.
West Ham have come out today and said they will sell all their England Internationals if they are relegated, and that’s probably how this story originated.
But since the West Ham side have performed so poorly this season, it’s difficult to see many of their players – other than Robert Green and former Newcastle midfielder Scotty Parker – being in much demand.
We think Alan Pardew needs to think of better players than Carlton Cole, to bring to Newcastle this summer.
We simply don’t think Carlton Cole is good enough to play for Newcastle, not if we are going to finish in the top eight next season.
What do you think of this?

Comment #1No thank you, bust on to the scene with bags of potential, which he has never fulfilled. Leave him at West Ham, after all, he is a championship player, so next season he will have his level.

Comment #4Yeah prefer to keep Shola as a squad striker than bring in this guy. Perhaps Pardew rates him though fro his time managing the lad.
I’d take Scweinsteger or whatever his name is (!), he’s looked decent since coming back from injury.

Comment #9That’s a shocking goal scoring average.
You want a striker to be scoring at least every 2/3 games.
Hell, if you hang around the penalty area for 248 games its going to bounce in off you by accident 53 times … 🙂

Comment #11We will get who Pardew can attract and who will come for the money on offer. We will also get those who don’t receive a better offer. Some of you have delusions about this club’s standing within the game at the moment. There are better players who are having serious doubts about staying, than ones wanting to come in. It doesn’t matter how much money you have, with a 3rd manager and set-up, and a reputation as an unambitious club, you aren’t going to attract the top players.

Comment #15Newcastle go after this crap and I bet Nolan, Barton, Enrique and any player with sense in them will leave as this signing will clearly show that the club have no ambition of progressing up the table.
This had better be stupid paper talk.
And these 2 call themselves Premiership strikers!!??- Look at those pathetic goal stats!!!

Comment #21To sum it up for you Mr Pardew. NO F*CKING way. I would rather u sign up Rickie Lambert for a million than him.
Anyway lads, if you look at Pardews transfer record it’s pretty impressive. Remember he signed Tevez and Mascherano for West Ham when they were relatively unknown. He also signed as I mentioned before Ricky Lambert for Southampton for a million and so far he’s scored 55goals out of 80 games for the saints.
His transfer record is probably the main reason why Ashely hired him, thinking he could trust him with his millions in investment.

Ameobi – Still CAPLESS
Both crap players but i still rate C.Cole than Ameobi. The reason most of you at in defence of Ameobi is because he is from Newcastle – thats all.

Comment #23i’d much rather have shola than cole!! but im honestly not suprised that were linked with a bad player. even though we’ve been linked with great players like gervinho and gameiro its obvious that we arn’t gonna get these type of players. in the summer i expect us to sign free’s and average strikers like this joke

Comment #24Cole is not what were looking for at all. He’s another big, lunkish, Ameobi-esque, brute. He’s like the modern Heskey. A great physical presence but no refinement. No thanks. We should be looking for some craft, guile and pace. I want an intelligent forward with skill.

Comment #27I think most of the judgement is bias since we are comparing a local lad (no matter how shit he is, all if you will say he is GOOD) with other player.
i watch some of c.cole performance, he is ok as a striker – at least he know where the goal post (compare to Ameobi’s effort AWAY from the goal post against LiverFool)

Comment #28nar not likely, we want players like danny sturridge, gabby agbonlahor, people with something about them bit of pace. much prefer players who can play a bit of football. it would just be lumped forward with carlton cole and he can not control his own bladder.

Comment #30ccc, I just think some people have a delusion that we can attract the top players…
At some point we have to realise – we’ve just been promoted, we don’t have a top manager, we dont have any famous players, we’re in the freezing north east of england – we’re not an attractive proposition to the top talent..

There is a middle ground though. Surely the world is a big enough place that we can find young, exciting, pacey talent that would give their left testicle to play in the Premier League.
We got Ben Arfa, who is a class player. He left Marseilles where he was playing in UEFA ect. He came here because he was coming into his prime, 23 years old, he’d played 127 league 1 games and been a substitute in 60 of them. Was taken off in another 45 games. 22 full games out of 127. He wanted to play and we wanted to give him an opportunity…
Carlton Cole isn’t getting a game because of a lack of opportunity. He’s not good enough at West Ham and they’re about to get relegated.

Comment #32Cole is far better than Shola, but I agree, we should aim higher. There are younger and better players out there, don’t waste the money on moneygrabbers close to 30.

Comment #33Although he showed potential as a youngster unfortunately Cole has never lived up to his rep.
Now Demba Ba is a different story, banging in five goals in eleven games, a big strong forward with an eye for goal.
Then there`s Tomkins an up and coming defender, with a lot of potential who has cemented himself in the side playing regularly and face it we need help on the back line too.
Green their goalie is better than anyone we have at present and would also be a good buy.
Well on the premis they (W/Ham) will make the drop and have to sell, these four would not be bad acquisitions for any side.

Comment #37I desperately don’t want either Cole or Defoe at my club.
For the first time in years I hold some
Confidence in the clubs scouting and transfer policy. Neither of these players fit the current mould.
Strikers always get football fans excited and the prospect of at least two arriving we have plenty to get excited about.
My only worry is realistically I can see us losing 3 of the current 5 , Loven, Kuqi and Ranger on loan. Keeping Best and Shola.
But if AP is thinking of playing 1 up top with Ben Arfa behind, I think we’ll only bring in 2 a player in the mould of Osvaldo and hopefully a younger one such as Whickham or the Finnish lad in Holland.
More than personel next season the formation has me intrigued . I’m hoping for a 4-3-2-1 formation with 2 skilful attack minded player behind a big striker. With the option of going with wingers.
Very excited at the prospects next term, we have a lot to ‘be’ optimistic about.

Comment #38jobs I would trust to Carlton Cole.
cut my grass, clean my sewers, sweep my path, weed my boarders, wash the car (maybe), clear my gutters, pick the rabbit droppings off the lawn, clean my windows, deliver my paper, deliver my shopping, clean the cobwebs of my lights, clean the toilet. yes many jobs I could just about trust, but I would never let him loose on my football club.
things I could forgive dogpoo for, trying it on with the wife, crashing into my car, drinking the bottle of champagne (vintage) I have for celebrating our next trophy, getting us relegated next season never.

I tend to disagree with your statement as I personally think it would be phenomenal show of courage from AP to go after Carlton Cole, with him knowing that Cole has something to offer and being confident enough to get it out of him, but at the forefront of his mind knowing that many supporters would question the ambition of the club from the owner down on the fact that we sold AC and we got Carlton Cole. If we did get CC on the cheap, and he was used initially as an impact player from the bench, then I would not be too disheartened. So long as he was not the direct replacement for Carroll, I think this guy could do a job for AP. CC has blistering pace and great upper body strength and I am sure with the right motivation from someone who believes in him, he could ruffle a few feathers and get a few goals and bring others into play. Yes he has a questionable career goals record, but if we perhaps had 15m to spend on strikers, a big chunk of that on a decent PL or European league goalscorer plus the loose change on CC would not be too bad in my eyes, especially with HBA floating about in the hole just behind. Lets keep the rebuilding job in perspective though. Where we are at the moment unfortunately dictates that we will be sniffing around the proven but lost form, lost sheep, lost confidence, not yet fulfilled their potential players, unproven in PL euro gambles. We might get one or two recognised players, but lets be realistic on who may be making up the numbers on.
Anyway, this is not a dig at you coolcarter89, just a difference of opinion. This is my first post on this blog, usual crack, followed it for ages before finally doing the right thing and getting signed up.

Comment #40chuck – santa promised me he would bring quality in!! I mean to me why not have a go at it like trying to get these types of players in, lets look at it. we were an average team when i first started to go to the games in the early 80’s even though we had masssive players like keegan, waddle, beardsley, gazza to go with wharton, peter and darren jackson, etc it got totally worse under mcfaul, ardiles, smith. utter garbabge. when keegan came back he kept us up and then got us promoted straight away. he did that by having a go at it. Same when we nearly won the league in 96, bobby did the same in 2001, when he bought robert, bellamy, acuna plus jenas later that season, the injection of pace with robert and bellamy got us from 11th in the league to the champions league. Nobody expected it from newcastle that season. 3rd the season after. If we finish in the top 10 this season (big if) then we really need to be taking it to the next stage. with 20m plus to spend on players we need to add this type of quality to the squad. I would love it if we did have a go at it, but i am not holding my breath.
