Newcastle have again been linked with West Ham striker Carlton Cole, and that has to be worrying news.
Carlton Cole – worse goals scored record than Ameobi
After losing Andy Carroll to Liverpool, the very last thing we would want to see is to get an ordinary striker like Cole into Newcastle.
If that happens it will show the extent of Newcastle ambition, and it simply not be good enough, because after all this player cannot even keep his place in the West Ham side, and they are bottom of the league.
Apparently Newcastle inquired about the striker on January 31st, after big Andy had been sold to Liverpool, but this class of player will hardly excite Newcastle fans.
Don’t get us wrong, when he’s on form Carlton is an excellent player with good skills, but he reminds us too much of Shola Ameobi, who goes missing in games far too much.
In fact we don’t rate Carlton much better than Shola Ameobi – and Shola has a better goal scoring record – with Shola having 69 goals in 294 club appearances for Newcastle, and Cole, having just 53 goals in 248 club appearances.
West Ham have come out today and said they will sell all their England Internationals if they are relegated, and that’s probably how this story originated.
But since the West Ham side have performed so poorly this season, it’s difficult to see many of their players – other than Robert Green and former Newcastle midfielder Scotty Parker – being in much demand.
We think Alan Pardew needs to think of better players than Carlton Cole, to bring to Newcastle this summer.
We simply don’t think Carlton Cole is good enough to play for Newcastle, not if we are going to finish in the top eight next season.
What do you think of this?

Comment #41I understand the worry, that Pardew would be too scared to bring in players that he hasn’t worked with before.
But I also recall the incredible amount of foreign players we’ve bought in, with either tremendous reputations or tremendous potential, and been absolutely cack!
Seeing as we’ve just been promoted, and in my opinion should be worrying about relegation next year rather than Europe, I would not be unhappy if we started with Defoe and Cole upfront next year.
Two English international strikers, who we know can do it in the premiership. European flare and excitement is all very well, but I just dont see it happening.

Hey I got no problem with bringing in good players and SBR got a pretty good mix.
With Rober and Nobby on the wings, Speed and Dyer in the middle (pace & defensive ability)
plus Shearer and that big mouthed great little Taff Bellamy .
Look it doesnt take the monies that Citeh have spent to put a good side to-gether, it`s usually a manager with the ability to put a team to gether.
Much like Arry @ Spurs.
Do i think Pardew can accomplish that ?
Answers no !
And dont think Ashley wants to spend the money to make it happen.

Comment #44Pardew has said he wants “young players who have 100 to 150 games under their belt at a top level, who won’t depreciate in value.” And for the ST position I remember him saying “we want someone who is at the level Andy was.”
Cole and Defoe fit none of these descriptions. I think AP sets the parameters for the type of players he would like, Carr then identifies them. I’m remaining optimistic.

Comment #45ED summed it up perfectly in this phrase “Carlton Cole – worse goals scored record than Ameobi” I think that says it all tbh.

Comment #49Look, if we went after Cole AFTER Carroll was sold, it will only because we thought he was a) cheap and b) likely to be available even by a relatively desperate West Ham.
It doesn’t mean with 50 mil in his pocket and a full summer to work with, that Pardew is going to choose Carlton ruddy Cole out of all the strikers on 5 continents.
I think Lee Ryder is losing it with this bit of speculation. Apart from anything else, at 27, Cole is not about to get a whole lot better and hardly fits with our plans to buy ’em young and sell ’em.

Comment #50I dont know how much the hammers paid for Demba Ba but I dont think it was much. He is their Tiote and they wont want to let him go as he will probably be on fairly low wages. I think if we could get him in for 6 million and a fairly average wage that would be good business. I also think we can find ourselves in a strong position with any clubs that are relegated as we have a number of strikers that are that level as recently proven. Lovenkrands could go the other way or Ranger on loan…or both.
God our club will be in a much better financial position when we can get Smith, Xisco and Ameobi off our books. All earning btwn 50 to 60gs a week with no long term value.
