Newcastle Now Mathematically Safe – Well Done!!

After today’s hard fought 2-1 win against Birmingham City, Newcastle move up to 10th position in the Premier League.

St. James’ Park

But probably the most important thing is that Newcastle are now mathematically safe from relegation,. and if all three bottom sides win their remaining games, they will still not catch Newcastle.

Newcastle also have one other thing going for them, and that is their decent goal difference of -1, which is better than all the sides below them in the league except Stoke City.

If Newcastle can manage to get one last win against WBA two weeks tomorrow, in the last game of the season, they could well finish in the top 10, and that would be a terrific achievement.

After a hard and difficult season, where Newcastle still managed to change managers once, let’s  give the Newcastle players some credit,  we would have taken 44 points this season in a New York minute last August.

Our boys deserve a lot of credit for keeping Newcastle in mid-table almost all of the season, and never getting down and dirty in the relegation zone. We all had enough of that terrible stuff two years ago.

The players deserve great credit – and now to really strengthen the side this summer – that’s the next step in Newcastle’s comeback.

Howay The Lads!!

Good result, not a very inspiring game though, for long periods of the game, it looked more like us who were a man down, still, 3 points is 3 points.

After a quick look, the french media have just relieve the news from “the Sun”. So, this is still about M’bengue, Tabanou and Gameiro.

Now we are safe, it is time for Jose and others to put up or be gone.

Another inspirational Nolan talk? If you don’t want to be here the door is that way!

    On summer purchases:
We need a balance of “ones for the future” and experience. Getting in a load of kids with potential will not be enough to keep us up another season, imho. We need international quality only. at least 2 strikers, one of which needs to be significantly better then what we have now.

    On outgoings:
get rid of the hangers on once and for all.
    Ameobi is NOT premier quality
    Smith IS always injured
there’s 2 to get the ball rolling.

By the way if you check Danny Simpson’s Twitter account, on May 2nd he tweets to Patrick Van Aanholt
” Good 2 see ya yesterday! What u up to?”

Van Aanholt replies “just got back to leicester init….gonna chill yeh man was good 2 see ya yesterday… See u soon u never know haaha!”

And Simpson tweets “very soon ha”

Which obviously suggest he could well be signing for us.

Very poignant ed, it’s been a really intense season of amazing peaks and terrible troughs but I think we should take pause. Yeah I know the performances have been disappointing of late. But I’m taking pause to take in all that was in the 2010/11 season warts & all. The next 2 months will show exactly what the future really holds. Well done to the lads every single one of them, yeah we could have done better but in the end they’ve done the job much better than we hoped. HWTL indeed!

It’s great that we’re safe and sitting in 10th, we should be proud. However, with the league as open as it is and has been, I think with a little more quality in the side we’d be sitting a lot higher, I know a lot of blame can be based on our dealings in January but i like to aim my aggression on that thug DeJong, I think if we’d have had Ben Arfa in our squad each week we would have been flying….
Not to mention next season he’d have had a full year of experience in the epl…
By the way, free giveaways, do you really think we only need one striker? and an unproven one at that?

What huge progress this club will have made if we can finish top 10 in our first season back. Season with many ups and downs to say the least. I am very proud of the lads for keeping us up and doing it with games to spare. Next season we must improve on our points total and position this year. We HAVE to make SJP into a fortress again, it is far too quiet unless we are winning, maybe that is why they have split the singing section up or maybe they are moving them closer to the pitch to make more of an atmosphere? With some astute buys in the summer and key players back we could be looking at a good season next year.

If we are to push for top 8 next season then buying pretty big is essential. My first purchase would be Sturridge from Chelsea although getting him maybe be quite a struggle but he would cost something like 10 – 15 million. Next Long OR Conner Whickam, two strikers through the door ASAP. Next two full backs, little tougher to decide who we could get that is as good as Enrique IF we lose him. We have been linked with a few French kids but i aint seen them play so i would target Leighton Baines, very tough to get him and i doubt Everton will even entertain the idea unless big money is offered if we can not get him go for Aanholt. Right back, RIGHT i know i will get stick for this but Bardsley from Sunderland has had a fine season although it would be tough to get him from our fiercest rival OR we could go in for Benoit Assou-Ekotto from Spuds but another extreme long shot there and he would more than likely want CL Football. As for wide men Matt Jarvis would be a step in the right direction. Also Larrson would be a good signing as well. We probably won’t get any of those players especially Sturridge, Ekotto but here’s to hoping for similar quality players coming in.

We probably need a couple. Wickham’s unproven but I think he’ll definitely adapt to the premiership quickly because of his physical attributes. Would love us to sign Sturridge or Gameiro as well. I just hope we don’t go for Carlton Cole, we’ve been linked with him again in the chronicle today.

Jose’s going so we need: LB, CB, RB, RW & 2 strikers.

Out: Enrique, Perch, Campbell, Smith, Routledge, Lovenkrands.

And send Ranger, Vuckic and LuaLua out on loan.

Whilst there may be substance to your Twitter detective work re. Van Aanholt, I’d say the fact that we’ve got Chelsea next weekend might be the ‘seeing soon’ Danny and him were referring to… just a thought!

I thought the kid looked class when we had him on loan though, hasn’t got much Premier League experience but as loughy says, if Jose goes he wouldn’t be an awful replacement.

Well, yes, but for me, the perfect player for Newcastle is Loïc Rémy. He’s fast, sharp, like Gameiro, but he’s also worthy in the air. So he will match for both Barton and Ben Arfa.

Gameiro is perfect with Ben Arfa behind him, but he will never catch Barton pass in the air.

This is a strategic choice. If you wish to leave behind your traditionnal airplay, it’s hard to do that in one season. And anyway, it’s a better approach to add new tactics to your ancestral strength, rather than forgott who you are and change everything.

And Rémy is the perfect link between your future and your past.

Free giveaways, agreed, Carlton Cole would be a self destruct button.
I can’t see us signing Sturridge I think he’ll go back to Chelsea next season, Drogba will move on or be a super-sub and Kalou will probably head overseas, so instead of blowing crazy money again like on Torres they’ll recall someone who can get the job done for nowt..
Any of the players we’ve been linked to in the French league will do me…

What’s the latest on Best anyone? did we get news from his operation and a return date?

I like Simpson but today there was an occasion where Birmingham had the ball at the edge of our box in the second half and Simpson backed right off and gave the Birmingham player way to much space. Had we been playing a better tram today we would have been punished for that.

Forget this heart trouble story, it was a false alert. He’s in perfect health.

He have already express the will to join PL in the past. His difficult season with Marseille and the fact than Coach Didier Deschamps don’t seem to apreciate him more than that make him availlable, even if he is not in the transfer list now (sure, considering news in french footbal, Deschamps can become national team coach in the next weeks, which will change everything in Marseille).

Marseille have buy him 15 Millions euro. They will probably release him for the same price. Maybe more, maybe less, depending how your negociator is Skilled…

Toon1978- Yeah Bardsley looks decent but its never gonna happen. Hutton could though.

I like Simpson as a guy. He seems committed and gives 100% but is defensively poor. Ever since the West Brom 2-2 game last season I’ve noticed how much space he gives opposing wingers. It’s fatal at times (Spurs v Lennon and Wolves v Jarvis). People will say give him time but it’s a MAJOR flaw and been going on for far too long. If he was going to improve he would have done so by now. If we want to improve and challenge for Europe next season we need a new RB as we can’t carry Simpson forever.

I like Pardew’s interview. He seem’s pretty confident that we are going to bring in a few flair players and get the fans back on their feet. He said we have no players at the club like that atm so that sounds good although i doubt our current players will be to happy to hear him say that lol. Jonas has quite a bit of flair but often has no end product.

Toon1978 – Nice selection of realistic targets most of which I had in mind too. I would prefer to go for Van Aanholt before paying big for a LB. Van Aanholt is a class act and the kid is a wasted talent at Chelsea and could come in the cheap. I think he’s even better than Enrique and Baines put together he’s just really under-rated as he never gets a chance in Chelsea. When he was here he was excellent and played like Enrique does when the Spaniard is on top form.

What do you guys think of us getting Micah Richards for direct competition to Simpson’s RB berth?????????????

He is class, strong, young, experienced and can increase lot in value if he plays regularly.

Ps. Well done to the lads for a fantastic end to a very difficult and traumatic season.

    Great that we’re safe …

What we need is leadership from the owner by him showing the fans he is building a team to win trophies.

Wouldn’t it be great to get that “buzz” back around the club.

Spending 20million + 35million would be a huge step to getting the club winning on the pitch, which is the ultimate aim after all.
