Since Cheick Tiote recently served a two match ban for receiving 10 yellow cards, and since then he’s played four matches for Newcastle and got a yellow card in every single one of the games.
Cheick Tiote – 14 yellow card plus one red card this season
That means one more yellow card this season and Tiote will get a 3 match ban, and that will be 9 matches he will have missed through suspension this season.
The ban will carry over into next season, and that’s hardly a good way for Newcastle to start next any season.
On the other hand, Cheick has been one of Newcastle’s very best players this season, and when he’s not in the side, Newcastle are not the same side.
And worse than that, if he misses any of the remaining two games with Smith and Guthrie both out injured, it’s an open question as to who will come in to replace him.
Alan Pardew says he has thought about resting Tiote, and if he was to do that the Chelsea game is the game to do that in.
That’s because Newcastle can beat West Brom in the very last game at home two eeks today, but even at their very best, Newcastle will have a hard job next Sunday at Stamford Bridge against an in-form Chelsea side, who have taken 25 points from their last 9 league games.
West Brom looked hopeless today at Wolves, especially in that first half, and were beaten 3-1, and that has given Wolves some chance of staying up this season, but the West Brom defense looked woeful.
This is what Alan said today about Cheick Tiote:
“I watch the DVDs, I watch him in training – I’m doing everything I can to think of a way to protect him,”
“He’s on the verge of a three-match ban again, but I’ve missed him for five games already. Do I leave him out of the last two? That would be seven he’s missed already for ill discipline.”
“That’s not right. He’s got to learn and I’ll be looking at him very, very closely next year to make sure he doesn’t get any booking that isn’t absolutely necessary.”
“He needs to control his temper. Sometimes he gets a little bit carried away in the heat of the battle.” “In the Premier League in his first year though? He’s done brilliantly.”
“And I think it is something we would rather have than him be too passive or technically poor or not quick or strong enough.”
Unless Pardew rests the Ivory Coast International, it seems almost certain he will pick up a 15th yellow card in the last two games, and will need to serve a three match ban.
Newcastle have so many injuries that they are forced to play Cheick because there’s not anybody available to cover for him, such has been the demise of the Newcastle squad this year, through injury.
But Cheick must improve his disciplinary record next season, otherwise he will be missing quite a few games again.
That’s one significant area of improvement for the 24 year old defensive midfielder.

He is german and is sensible about his career. He will never leave the german league. How many Germans play outside of the Bundesliga

Comment #123Ah well, honestly you think ashley would have the brain to put extra money into the pot to get players like this ( not talking about Toulalan, or anyone else who wants to go to a club with instant success and hasn’t got the spirit for a good challenge) because it would all pay off when where successful and getting more income left right and centre, not to mention he will be forgiven, and who knows even liked from the fans!

Comment #137I think its definitely worth raiding the relegated EPL clubs for some good players. Here are some european players I would like:
– Eduardo Salvio (winger) on loan at Benfica from Athletico, has looked good in Europa league and is still young
– Tomas Necid (Striker) a young Czech player who has scored a fair share of goals. Have been unable to see play but have been aware of him for a few years
– Alan Dzagoev (Midfielder) another young player from Russia who is in a similar mold to Nolan. Has a good goal scoring record but once again have been unable to see him play. I have known about him for a good few months and I hear he is highly rated
– Henrique (Defender) a young Brazilian defender at Barcelona, however he is out on loan at the moment and I believe we could get him either permanently or on loan for next season
– Caceres (Defender) another south American player who hasn’t played for Barcelona since 2008 and has instead had two loan spells at Juventus and Sevilla respectively. He is also able to play at left or right back as well

Comment #140Alan Dzagoev is a great prospect and just less than 2 years ago his value was around 12-15 mill euros with Real Madrid interested.
But now i think his value has decreased and i hope we can do the same thing what Sporting did with a much better Russian prospect 4 years ago who was quoted to be the best young talent in Europe,,and that’s Marat Izmailov.
He was hitting the headlines, much like Pastore now and some crazy transfer fees were mentioned for him, only to be transfered to Sporting CP for only 4.5 mill Euros.

Comment #141Did anyone watch the Allan Sugar bbc show on tackling football from a business sense?
Wow it made me very thankful for MA way of running NUFC. It also made me realise just how far gone the PL is…there is going to be some big problems when the money stops being thrown around. Over all the PL has 3.3 billion pounds worth of debt primarily due to players wages another reason to be thankful for our wage cap which pretty soon all clubs are going to be forced to introduce

One good deed doesnt make up for the MANY terrible choices he has made.
@Ochytoon
Eduardo Salvio (winger) – Benfica want to make his move perm, plus New Atleti manager may want to keep him.
– Tomas Necid (Striker) Our typical NO9 “Old Fashioned” style but not sure if he would come here also hardly prolific 1 goal in 7 for a striker for a top team isnt good.
– Alan Dzagoev (Midfielder) Decent but doesnt play good enough, scores a few goals although yet to score in 6 russian games, not good enough for his big-ish price tag as Transfermarkt say he is worth 11 M
– Henrique – Wages i reckon too high and wouldnt join us, would prefer a Spanish stay.
– Caceres – You think STaylor makes mistakes, this guy is either solid or incredibly poor, misjudging balls, getting sent off etc.. good moving foward but his defending at times is suspect, again big wages.

I’m being totally serious… why not we go in for Alexis Sanchez? I know Man U, Barca, Chelsea, Manciteh, inter want the king of tricks and the new cristiano ronaldo but Udinese said they want 30 million and he is yours. We have 35 million of Carroll money and what ever Mike Ashley adds on, and assuming Jose Enrique is already gone (15 million) that is around 50 plus! Do it like this….
Alexis Sanchez 30 million #9
N’Zogbia 6 million (rlg’tion?)
Kolbeinn Sigþórsson 3 million
David Hoilet 3 million (rlg’tion?)
Clyne 2 million
Ji Dong Woon 1 million

Ashley Williams FREE

Comment #149I am not sure why some of NU fans still want player like Nzogbia. The time when he was here is pretty much awful experience for all of us. He do have some talent on the field but his selfish, rebellious, antic and no team spirit will surely something that we don’t want to have again in the club.
At the moment, our greatest strength is the team spirit. I would like to keep it that way and we need to ensure whoever we bring in will not destroy it with their primadona attitude

Comment #151This whole Liverpool-Enrique thing is doing my nut in. We should do what Manc City did and refuse to sell our best players to our rivals, who Liverpool will be next season. Why should we sell to clubs who will be competing against us for a top half finish. Its crazy.

Comment #152Couldn’t agree more, bentoon. Hopefully, if he goes, it’ll be to Bayern or AC Milan and not a direct competitor.
Regarding Tiote, yes, he needs to pull it in a bit, but where would we have finished without his tencaity this season?

Comment #153Hey ! it`s becoming a serious problem, the card collection.
I watched him during the last game and he seemed to be doing great, covering a lot of ground and continually winning balls.
Even his distribution had improved, from a policy of quickly getting rid of the ball to the closest team mate , to looking for the pass that would start a counter attack.
Of course we dont want to curb the natural aggression that makes him such a ballwinner, but he has to learn when to go in hard and when to just ease people off the ball, or channel them in a different direction.
But he is improving, especially his distribution and perhaps with the help of a good defensive coach, can pick up some of the more subtle ways of ball winning without sending opponents into the stands.
