News today that Newcastle are interested in young Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.
Thibaut Courtois – 6’5″ goalkeeper turns 19 next week
Goalkeeper coach Andy Woodman has already been watching the 18 year-old youngster, who plays for Racing Genk in Belgium, and Newcastle are always on the look out to bring young stars into Newcastle, who can then be developed on Tyneside.
Alan Pardew said he was not interested in bringing a goalkeeper into Newcastle a few weeks ago, at least not a senior one, and that may have been a clue to Newcastle watching this lad, who seems a big star of the future.
As far as the senior goalkeeping position at Newcastle goes, there will be an almighty fight between Steve Harper, Tim Krul and Fraser Forster in the summer, and Tim is already laying claim to the number one position this season.
The Dutch U21 International came in against Manchester United for the injured Steve Harper, and has played great since then, and will play in the final two games of the season.
The 6’5″ Courtois turns 19 next Wednesday, and made his debut for Genk while only 17 years old back in April of 2009, in the match against Gent.
The youngster has so far made close to 30 appearances for the Belgian Pro League club, and is highly regarded in Belgium.

Comment #7Seriously guys I’ve seen tons of Celtic games and Forster has lost them alot of games. He takes ages to get down to the ball if it’s low and corner bound. Would much prefer this keeper.

Comment #8@kilcline totally agree mate. Emilo Izaguirre is his name, great player, attacking fullback, would be perfect replacement for Jose.

Comment #12Remy and Gomis would be good, just as long as he realises we need 2 strikers.

Comment #14Not much chance of Lopez… He’s worth a mint.
Ayew is more likely… Great pace and a left wing/ striker.

Comment #18Heard he is a decent talent but why? we have already Harper/Krul/Forster/Soderberg, dont really need another young keeper.

Comment #20We haven’t brought in many youngsters lately! Always admired Big Mike for doing that, even in the dark days !
