Sunderland And Newcastle To Miss Out On Kevin Gameiro

There is a very short report in the Daily Mail today that Sunderland are interested in £12M rated French striker Kevin Gameiro.

Kevin Gameiro – French striker in big demand

Newcastle have already had a reported £8M bid refused by his French club Lorient, and London clubs Arsenal and Tottenham are also now said to be interested in the the 5’8″ striker.

Both Newcastle and Sunderland will be after strikers in the summer, to replace the England strikers who left in January for big money – Darren Bent and Andy Carroll.

But the Daily Mail is conveniently omitting the news of a week or two ago that the 3 times capped French International wants to play his football in Spain.

Kevin has had a terrific season for Lorient, and in 36 games has notched 21 goals, and when we’ve watched him he’s looked a class act, who seems to be able to score from almost anywhere.

But we’d be very surprised if Gameiro ends up in the North East this summer, when much bigger clubs, who can offer him Champions League football, are after him.

Comments welcome.

I’ve seen a few videos on YouTube of this guy and the boy certainly has talent. Out of all the strikers we’ve been linked with this summer, i realistically think this one could be a possibility.

Despite his height he has really good feet and has scored some fantastic goals. There aren’t many players worth breaking the bank for but he is certainly one.

We have the French link with Chiek and HBA and this can only be a positive.

I cant see him ending up anywhere but some club in Spain.

Hes already come out and said thats where he wants to play so I can’t see us, sunderland or spurs getting him.

Always knew we wouldnt be getting him though as I reckon hes a champions league quality player.

I just can’t see him getting all his wishes: Spain and Champions league.

Can’t see him getting a game at Barcelona or Real Madrid. Don’t think he’d get a game at Valencia or Villarreal. They have quite a lot of fire power already. Well… he could go to either of those clubs and spend half of his time on the bench.

He could easily go to a team in the Europa though.

    S. Ferguson
    S. Larsson
    S. Ameobi

This was always going to happen. We’re not a Champions League team anymore, and we won’t be for a while.

The club’s being rebuilt from the ground up and I think it’ll be a few years before we really start troubling Europe again. Top players aren’t going to come to us until we can give them something more. This is where buying young becomes an advantage. Getting players who are young enough to know they’ll have to earn a place in a CL team.

Take Haris Vukcic. Young and talented (if he ever gets of the injury bench) and a great player in the making. It’s likely that, if he fulfills his promise, he’ll end up somewhere like Milan, Madrid or Barcelona, but before he can realise any ambitions of playing for teams like that, he can earn his stripes at the Toon and help take us higher up the table.

Getting players before they’ve had their heads turned by money and bigger opportunities is a pretty smart move. Sooner or later, we’re going to be a club that these kids want to stay at, and other players want to come to, but not today. Not for a few years. It’ll come.

Gonzales was a good player but we signed him when he already had a niggle which was poor management on our side, and presumably one of the reasons ou owner has changed his transfer policy.

I watched gonzales in the world cup and he was one of the players that drove unruguy to a respectable finish.

On topic though, history states we will mostly be getting players who arent on the radar of the press so I don’t get my hopes up with any of the players mentiond

So having spent months going on about him on here and putting him in your stupid fantasy lists does that mean you all feel stupid? Or will you just move on to another unrealistic target, and go on about how having him up front Ben arfa will bring peace to the middle east, and cure famine in Africa?

Why not just shut up about targets until the summer at least?

at djm, sorry mate, however good Nacho Gonzales was( I saw his 18 minute cameo at Upton Park that year) he certainly was not the driving force of uruguay at the World Cup. He played the first half against France and was never seen again. Not as crap as people made out though, that I agree

    Bonjour messieurs.

    Gameiro’s song.

    I make you a translation:

    You play at Le Moustoire*
You got to found the sparkle you need
To didn’t leave at the first winter market

When your best player is Amilfitano
    All the weeks you delight
    You’re made in**Portugal, PORTUGOAL!
And you make dream all greats football clubs
    Milan, Real, Barca and Liverpool

This is why today i’m tired
This is why today i want to scream

Le moustoire stick on his skin
    He’will not drop his tango***Jersey

*Le moustoire is the Lorient Stadium
**”Made in” in english in the song
***Tango is the colour of Lorient Jersey

As you can see, it’s an humouristical song…

This one about Taiwo is also excellent

    “Taye, Taye Taiwo
Who is the striker on your back?
    Taye, Taye Taiwo
Stop!!! you’re running straight on the post!
    Taye, Taye Taiwo
In your head, ther is like a Bucket of water

    Strike with te two feet
When you shoot, you got one chance about two to kill a steward in the crowd!”

pity we missing out on signing this kid… he reminds me alot of shearers goal scoring ability and lethal inside the box… would of rather made an offer of about 15m as he def worth that kinda cash

we can only hope pardew reaches deeper into the pockets and tries again to get this boy to tyneside, quality play and we can use a lethal number 9
