Most Newcastle fans are waiting to see just exactly what class of player Newcastle can attract in the summer.
Alan Pardew – players that will excite the fans
Newcastle will not be short of money, as they’ve got £35M from the Carroll sale to pay for the transfer fees and wages of players coming to the north east.
In addition to that, it’s also likely the club will get a sizable transfer fee for Jose Enrique, who seems to want to move on this summer, with Liverpool looking to be the most likely destination, although you never know.
And Newcastle have been linked with stacks of players so far this year, but the better ones, like Ivory Coast winger Gervinho and French striker Kevin Gameiro, are unlikely to end up on Tyneside.
Alan Pardew seems to have learned very quickly what Newcastle fans want, and it seems he wants to bring in players who will excite the Geordie faithful:
“We need to bring players in Newcastle fans love that can get you out of your seat,”
“We need one or two of them on top of what we’ve got and then we can go forward and be really competitive.”
The Newcastle side, to their credit, have kept the Magpies out of relegation trouble all season long, and Newcastle fans have generally seen their side show spirit and pride in nearly all of their games.
That’s something we didn’t see too much of from the star laden Newcastle side of two years ago, which ended up relegated, despite the huge wages the club were paying to the playing staff.
One performance in particular this season – the magnificent and gutsy come-back from 4-0 down after 26 minutes against Arsenal – when our boys scored four goals in the last 26 minutes or so of that game, will be remembered down the ages as the greatest ever comeback in the Premier League. What a performance that was – absolutely unbelievable in every way.
And Alan has told anybody who will listen these last few weeks, that Newcastle will not be resting on their laurels for their final two matches of the season:
“Making sure we don’t coast for the rest of the season is something I’ve got to focus on,”
“We have a professional respect that we handle ourselves very well in these remaining games.” “The players have been absolutely brilliant and we want to finish in the top 10.”
“We want to finish the season right. For us it’s about finishing strongly and making a point.”
We’d be delighted if the lads can pick up 3 points from their last two games at Stamford Bridge and at home to West Bromwich Albion.
A 47 points total would be an excellent return in the first season back in the big time.
Comments welcome.

Comment #203I really don’t see how getting rid of Pardew in the event of a takeover would equal instability. the fact that we’ve managed to stay up and remain stable in the wake of Hughton being booted and him taking over in the first place, means that we would most certainly do the same if he was sent packing under new ownership. I completely agree with the need for a long term stable management and ownership at the club, I can think of nowt better, but I’d rather we were under the stewardship of an inspirational figure, a manager who everyone could love and get behind… rightly or wrongly i can never see that being pardew… I’ll support Pardew while he’s there but I’d feel like I’d won the euro-millions if that fat lying c u next tuesday peddled us to minted forward thinking responsible owners who brought in an experienced manager with Clarky as his McCoist-like assistant with a view to taking over in a couple of years

French League 1
Lille is currently 1st
Sow 20 goals +
Portuguese League 1
Fc Porto is currently 1st
Falcao 30 goals +
What makes you think that 100% it will be easier to get Sow than Falcao?

Comment #210real madrid wanted Ben Arfa….
Ben Arfa rejected them because of first team playing time. Come on now who would reject Real Madrid for a newly promoted side????
Real Madrid want Falcao but look they have strikers like the best in world Cristiano Ronaldo, Benzema, Higuain, Adebayor, Kaka, Pedro Leon and whole lots of brilliant young kids trying to knock on the door. No guarantee that Falcao would be starting as each one of Real Madrid striker was bought for over 20 million, besides Adebayor Loan…

actually Sow started for Lille today up top as they won 2-1. Rio Mavuba, and Tulio De Melo scored.

Comment #212Just watched Lord Sugar’s documentary on football finances.
Those becoming giddy over a sugar daddy potentially taking over us, really should watch it.
I’m thankful for the way MA is running our club. He’s made mistakes, but is now running us in a sensible, rational and responsible manner.
Our wage cap should set a precedent. I’d hope they’re clauses in all newly signed contracts now, that state something along the lines of: “You get us into the champions league you all get a 15% wage rise for the season we compete in that tournament, if we fail to qualify the following season, you go back to your basic.”
That should be and I believe is our method now – a competitive basic with performance based incentives.

Comment #213Well well Billy Davies no one has forgotten about this.. 😀 especially me!
remember when Billy Davies said once we got promoted that we need to spend 60 million in order to be safe in Barclays Premier League next year? Well how much did we spend? 12ish million?
Hatem Ben Arfa 6.5
Cheik Tiote 3.5
Simpson 2?
Perch 1?

Campbell FREE

Comment #216The thing is that i’m scared that Mike Ashley is making a profit off of Newcastle in a stupid way. All the bright youngsters we have, once they develop into stars like Andy Carroll did he will sell them for a profit of more than 30 million like Carroll. Carroll was nothing at first of course brought into the academy for free then grew up in Newcastle and sold for 35 million. I don’t know if it was Mike that wanted to sell AC or AC wanted out.
Cheik Tiote bought for 3.5 million, now worth over 20-30 million. But will Mike Ashley keep him here and help the club or sell Tiote and make a profit for himself?

Comment #219CoolKat, All those supporters(use the term loosely) who want ASHLEYto sell ,know nothing.
If not for him we were surely screwed.
Give him a chance, yes he got it big time wrong early days.
He is in big time,£240 mill and counting.
None biz people, Now need to balance the books!
£35 mill for Judas invested is fair to expect, Ash can then use Sky funds to further reduce debt.
Thankyou.

Comment #221Baro – next year mate. So if you’re not breaking even, you will (apparently) be expelled from European football until you shape up.
If they’re stringent with this rule, I can’t help but think it will be automatically a Toon v Toon reserves CL final HAHA! 🙂

Comment #223In some weird way, I don’t know if I want Ashley to sell. I quite like the model he is putting together, following youth players and developing them.
Take a look at what Borussia Dortmund and Arsenal have achieved using this model. Before people say, ‘but Arsenal haven’t won anything’ – would you trade NUFC current spot for theirs? Also, would you rather see our team play the type of football that Arsenal and Dortmund play, or stick with the current un-attractive football we are playing?
So, if we do get a new owner, who signs big names that follow the big pay checks – do we achieve success?

Good interview with Kevin Keegan for whoever is interested: http://www.boggsport.com/2011/05/kevin-keegan-interview-off-ball.html
A really good listen, tx for sharing m8.
KK talks so much sense and can certainly tell some interesting stories. The interview covers his time at Liverpool, Germany and as a player at Newcastle and his times as manager here, Fulham and England.
“Surrounded by liars”
was what he says about being here under Ashley. 😆

Comment #225I hope some of the Carroll money will be used to clear the rest of the debt which I believe the lEt time I heard was 17 million. And then every game we will be making a profit! And be winning trophies after trophies after cups and after cups after urfa championship final! What is better than that! Honestly I have heard this financial rules for a while but have never seen the consequences more descriptly! Anybody have a link or arcticle where on it? Would very much appreciate it!

Comment #226Been saying it for ages and will say it again, that we’ll struggle to get the type of players in that we desire.
This point has been proven recently with the likes of Gervinho et al saying they will only move to teams playing in the champions league, and who can blame them!
I truly think we will be after some of the right type of players, but due to not being able to entice great players we’ll settle for good or not at all.
I think this will lead to a small squad again next season and perhaps similar problem which we faced last transfer window.
I think we were genuinely looking to strengthen in the last transfer window (Carroll sale aside!) and the reason we didn’t is because we couldn’t get the right type of players here.
Expecting much the same this time out, though with extra cahs we should get a few bodies. I’d love a couple of proven PL or established players from the big European leagues, but we may have to settle for taking a chance on some younger signings.
So, what calss of player can we attract? I’d say good players, not grat ones unless were savvy (and a little lucky) aka Tiote.

Comment #227With so much faith being put in the scouting network, I don’t want to ‘be’ buying big name players.
I want us to go after players who have yet to become names!
Yes they are a gamble, but the price will reflect that.
We have to take a punt on players and perhaps pay £10 million on some one like Whickham. Look at the Gunners and Spuds they paid 10 and 8 million respectively on Walcott and Bale, I’m sure both are worth alot more than those prices.
Players not names!

I know what you mean. There are aspects of the model ashley is buillding that I really like. I think the main problem has always been the choice of manager.
We need someone like a Wenger type who can develop these youngsters. Pardwho sadly is obviously not that man.
Krul, Tavernier, Kadar, Lua Lua, Vuksic, Fergie, Robinson, Airey and Ranger are 9 players who could really come through for us under the right tutelage.
I would would much rather we had a good manager to bring them on, rather than someone who gets linked with C.Cole, reo Coker nad Konchesky all the time !!

Comment #231I don’t really understand people slagging off Man city, saying they have been destroyed. Since they got a much better manager than mark hughes, they are in the FA cup final and the champions league. City fans look very happy to me.
Also if we did get a new owner, do you really think they would want to stick with pardwho !!

Comment #233Love that daily mail article that baro posted. the section about our players. Wayne Routledge ‘ punters love him, we might have found a gem’ Nile Ranger ‘ Has no future at the club will be sold’ Joey Barton ‘ no one else would have him, a passenger’ what rubbish they print.
I’m looking forward to our transfer activity in the summer as I said yesterday on another post I think we’ll sign Larsson, Cole, Reo Coker and Ireland but we’ll see I guess.
