Alan Pardew is looking to get an answer from Jose Enrique, on where his aspirations lie for next season.
Jose Enrique – make up your mind time
That’s only reasonable because if Jose elects to stay on Tyneside, and that seems a small chance right now, Newcastle will hardly need to bring in a new left back for next season, with young Shane Ferguson coming though every nicely on Tyneside.
Jose said that he would hold contract talks with Newcastle only when the club were safe in the Premier League.
And that happened on Saturday with Newcastle’s fine 2-1 win over Birmingham, a club that will represent England in the Europa Cup next season.
There have been persistent rumors that Liverpool have already done a deal for the player, but Alan Pardew has denied there’s any deal been made by the two clubs.
It seems that Liverpool are after Newcastle’s best players, having seen Andy Carroll leave in January, and former Newcastle manager Kenny Dalglish has said this week that Liverpool have already started their transfer business.
And Kenny is trying to do a Harry Redknapp, by trying to offload unwanted 29 year-old Paul Konchesky in part exchange (plus cash) for Jose, but that would be a terrible deal for Newcastle, and we shouldn’t take it.
If Jose goes then Newcastle need to bring in a top class left back to replace him.
If you’d like to send Jose a message to stay on Tyneside, you can tell him here.
I suppose there’s still at least some chance he could stay.
