Are Newcastle Interested In Demba Ba?

25 year-old Demba Ba, who has been plying his trade at West Ham United since January, could interest Newcastle if West Ham are relegated, which appears likely at the moment.

Demba Ba – in action against Manchester United

The fee West Ham paid German club 1899 Hoffenheim for the player was undisclosed, but it is thought to be based on the number of appearances he makes for the east London club.

That’s probably because The Senegal International (10 caps, 3 goals), who stands just short of 6’3″ tall, failed a medical at Stole City in January, before he was signed by the Hammers.

He completed his move to West Ham on 28th January, and signed a three-year deal.

When the player was signed by 1899 Hoffenheim from Belgium club Mouscron in 2007, he cost £2.5M, so we;re not sure how much he would cost in the summer.

We thought West Ham would escape the drop this season, but they’ve looked very poor in their last 7 games, and they’re at least 3 points from safely with just 2 games to play.

Following two successive home wins against Liverpool and Stoke City, the Hammers have slumped badly with just 2 points from their last 7 games, so things do not look good for West Ham supporters at the moment.

They have a game away at Wigan and a home game against Sunderland, so we can see them get 3 points against the Black Cats (of course), but the Wigan game this weekend will be crucial to their survival – we don’t think they will stay up – and feel really sorry for the West Ham fans.

If West Ham do go down the cost to new co owners, David Sullivan and David Gold is said today to be around £40M, but there again you cannot accuse them of doing a good job since they took over the club in January of 2010.

And of course West Ham will have to let go a number of their better players move on – in a fire sale.

Demba Ba may be one player who could interest Newcastle, but the question is – can he pass his medical at Newcastle, if the Magpies do manage to do a deal for the Senegal International?

In 11 appearances for West Ham the player has scored 5 goals this year, and by our reckoning in 145 club games he has scored 72 goals so far in his career.

What do you think of this striker?

This guy is pretty good…. 25… right age…. IF he stays off the injury list then itd be a gret signing….. think about it west ham couldnt get anywhere near the price they paid…… we could pick him up for 5m or so…… we paid shola to be injured for the last 10 years….. whats the difference? apart from Demba Ba looking quite good

I don’t think he’d fit in with the squad regardless of how injury prone he is. He comes across as a bit of a mercenary and we’ve had enough of them over the last few years.

Stoke said his condition was a “ticking time bomb”.

I’m trying to work out exactly what that means. It must be a degenerative problem like knee cartilage or something similar because no other problem really fits with that description.

He’s had a knee op a few seasons ago and I believe he’s still got some hardware screwing it all together. They don’t specify what the problem was though.

I think his transfer contract was written with performance clauses, so I don’t see why we can’t do the same. West Ham getting a bonus payment for every 5 games or something like that. I know Ashley doesn’t like instalment payments but if it’s to hedge against risk, I can’t see what the problem would be.

I said premierleague proven is that he already played half season at the premierleague so if we sign him (i hope we do), he already knew the high pace of the premierleague

so he will settle pretty quick

Look elsewhere, Ba is not bad, but he’s not a team player. He plays for himself only.

Anyway, he’s way better than Shola and Lovenkrands!

We have to be wary of signing too many africans as you lose them for the African Cup of Nations.
Do we have strength in depth to cover losing some of your top players for a few months?

Demba is a very good player, IF west ham go down we should 100% go for him, speaks english, tall, strong and VERY quick works hard for the team and also SCORES unlike Ameobi and Loven.

Hope we dont get Pavlyuchenko, too old hardly scores and we are gunna pay 10M for a 30 year old. if we do that we are beyond stupid.

Macheda….Class? you seen any of him at Sampdoria? guess not he has been rubbish i had hoped him to move to the next level after his sub apperances at Man United but he got some starts and didnt score or even work hard and got dropped and thats his team he supports.
Even his agent has come out saying he is dissapointed at how poor he has played. id rather not have him on loan, all we do is give Man United player time in the EPL. we dont need loans anymore. we can buy a 15/20M striker

Two schools of thought on Demba Ba, yes, his knee is a concern, but then again, he has stayed relatively fit for West Ham, but every time I have seen him play, he looks like a good player, who could be capable of so much more in a better team. I reckon he could be worth the risk.
