We really don’t know what’s happening with the Newcastle players these last couple of months, but news is coming through that Kevin Nolan is out for the rest of the season.
Kevin Nolan – wearing new strip – big miss for the last two games
The Evening Chronicle is reporting today that the Newcastle captain is to have a minor operation on his ankle, and he is out for the season.
We can only assume this is a precautionary move by Newcastle, and probably very sensible too, after Danny Simpson played the last few games with an ankle injury last season, and then was out for six months.
Danny did nothing but make the injury a lot worse, and Newcastle paid the price, with Danny not coming back until late October.
Kevin will be a big loss and with Mike Willaimson out last week and other players missing it will be tough test for Newcastle to get too many points out of their last two games at Chelsea and at home to West Brom.
Nolan’s goal total for the season is capped at 12 goals for the season, and it will make it difficult for Newcastle now.
With Tiote also likely to miss the last two games of the season, because he’s on 14 yellow cards for the season and one more caution will get him a 3 match ban, we wonder who will be the Newcastle central midfielders in the last two games.
Maybe Joey Barton will move into the center of midfield, and Ryan Taylor could come in on the right wing.
But who plays defensive midfield we just don’t know.
Do you have any ideas?
