Newcastle Linked With Another International Striker

Newcastle have already been linked with lots and lots of players over the last two months.

Cheick Diabate – 23 year-old 6’5″ Bordeaux striker

And expect that only to increase in the next few months,  but the real problem we’ll have is which news stories are true and which players are Newcastle really after.

Most of the time the stories are simply made up. although there seems to have been some legitimacy with Newcastle being after players like Gervinho, Cheikh M’Benque and Kevin Gameiro.

Newcastle have put in bids of  £5M for M’Benque and £8M for Gameiro, who seems to want to  play his football in Spain.

Both offers were rejected – oh well…..

Newcastle are linked with another striker today, and it’s according to reports coming out of France, that Newcastle are interested in 6’5″ striker Cheick Diabate, of French club Bordeaux, where the wine is very good.

The Mali born player has only recently made the Bordeaux first team, and was out on loan to AC Ajaccio in the French second division in 2008-2009, and was also out on loan at Nancy for a short while last season.

The problem we have with this player is that he doesn’t seem to have been a  starter for Bordeaux for any length of time,  and has only played around 13 times for the first team with a couple of goals, and he’s also played for his country Mali 9 times with two goals.

From what we can tell of his record he doesn’t seem to be experienced enough or good enough to be brought to Newcastle.

If any of our readers have seen this lad play, maybe they can tell us  how good he is.

But from his record,  difficult as it is to gauge these things, we’re not sure why Newcastle would be interested in this player – but hey – maybe it’s one of those made-up stories. 😀

Comments welcome.

Looks like we’ve just missed out on another of the FCB and Pardew’s top transfer targets:

ok seriously Gervinho has said he will only go to a club playing CL
Gamerio said he wants to play in Spain
and Sig has agreed to terms with Ajax

We arent in CL, we arent in Spain and we arent called Ajax…..get over them.

As for this lad being unknown and a bench warmer so was Tiote.

I thought we needed quick, mobile strikers, not lumbering giants, especially if we’re paying 4411 with ben Arfa behind the striker. How clueless is pardew?

Totally agreed rotonda. Also a wide forward since HBA will be dropping back to midfield alot.

Apparently Zavon Hines of West Ham (On a free end of season) is interesting us. Quick and tricky player under 21 international I believe aswell.

Does seem to be that as Tiote was such a success we are trying to sign anyone else who has either been to the Ivory Coast, or who is named Cheick. Great policy.

    @leazes upper

Agreed, there’s got to be some more hidden jems out there somewhere…

I’ve looked into some of Arsene Wengers previous signings that were cheap and worked out well:

Anelka: £500k (Sold 2 years later for £22.3m)
    Viera: £3.5m
    Van Persie: £2.75m
    Fabregas: £500k

    Total= £7.25m

WE JUST CAME UP FROM THE CHAMPIONSHIP!!!

Some people are completely deluded and you are all gonna be very dissapointed at th end of the transfer. Why on earth would Gervinho, Hulk, kalou, Adebayor and Gameiro want to come to newcastle.

Gervinho is already playing CL football
Hulk is on a much better team than us and playing CL football
Kalou plays for chelsea and i coul think of 50 other teams that he would raher come to than us
Adebaoyr plays for Real Madrid getting 100k a week
Gameiro is a class striker why would he want to come to newcastle

We and a big club anymore, yeah maybe we have 50,000 fans every home game and maybe we have some good history but do you seriously think any player cares about that. They care about playing at he highest level and getting the most money they can

    Im just being realistic
