Daniel Sturridge would be a great buy for Newcastle United this summer.
Daniel Sturridge – the type of young striker Newcastle need
But sadly we’ve not heard any rumors about Newcatsle even being interested in the player, and we don’t know if Chelsea would be willing to sell their 21 year-old prodigy.
You only have to look at what the Birmingham-born player did at Bolton this year – 8 goals in 11 appearances – to see how well he could do in the Premier League, with regular starts.
And unless Didier Drogba, Fernando Torres, Nicolas Anelka or Salomon Kalou leave the London club this summer, it’s hard to see the former Manchester City player getting much playing time in London.
It could be that Chelsea will make the player available for a loan spell next season, but Newcastle are not too lucky with loan deals at all.
Newcastle had Uruguayan Nacho Gonzalez on loan for the relegation season, and he made only two short sub appearances in September, and was out injured with an Achilles problem for the rest of the season – so he didn’t much help to save Newcastle from relegation at all.
But the Newcastle club were still reported as paying £1M in loan fees to his Spanish club Valencia.
And then this year, Stephen Ireland was always injured after he arrived on loan in January from Aston Villa, and he also made only two sub appearances for Newcastle this year.
But Sturridge would be a terrific permanent signing or loan signing, and could take over the mantle of Andy Carroll, and he’s younger too.
Daniel started his career with local club Aston Villa, whom he joined back in 1998, while just 9 years old, before moving to Coventry for a year in 2002, and then he joined Manchester City in 2003.
He played 32 times with 6 goals from 2006 through 2009 for the Manchester City first team, before he was signed by Chelsea in July, 2009.
The two sides were unable to agree a fee, and it was decided by a tribunal.
The Professional Football Compensation Committee decided that Chelsea would pay an initial fee of £3.5M with additional payments of £500K after each of 10, 20, 30 and 40 first-team competitive appearances.
And since Daniel has 41 first team appearances with 9 goals so far for Chelsea, the total fee paid by the London club currently stands at £5.5M, and Man City get a further payment of £1M if the player makes a full international appearance,
We don’t know how much this player would cost but he would be worth £10M of Newcastle’s money.
But as we said, we’ve seen no mention in the press that Newcastle are even interested in the 21 year-old.
He’d be an awful lot better than West Ham’s Carlton Cole – that’s for sure.

Pretty sure after his horrendous loan spell here, we will have no chance.

I’d replace Lovenkrands with Shane Long in a shot.
We’d still need a “proper” striker.
