Don’t Be Surprised If Charles N’Zogbia Returns To Newcastle

We watched the Wigan vs West Ham game over the weekend.

Charles N’Zogbia – training while at Newcastle

And of course the outstanding player for Wigan was Charles N’Zogbia, who scored with an absolutely brilliant free kick, and then he got the winner in injury time, as Wigan came back from 2-0 down to win 3-2, and send a woeful looking West Ham side 3-2.

Wonder if Chris Hughton could be the new managers at West Ham?

On Sunday Charles N’Zogbia was a Wigan hero if ever you saw one.

There were some rumors on Sunday morning that Newcastle were after N’Zogbia, and we know Alan Pardew tried to sign him on January 31st after selling Andy Carroll to Liverpool.

The 24 year-old not only looks like an excellent footballer, but it does appear that Charles has matured in his 28 months at Wigan, and will almost certainly move on in the summer, whether Wigan Athletic survive or not.

If Wigan stay in the Premier League he will be a little more expensive of course.

Charles started out quite popular at Newcastle when Bobby Robson signed him at 18,  in August of 2004 from Le Havre, and it was only near the end of this time at Newcastle that he became unpopular with the fans.

He left in January of 2009, under some heavy criticism from Newcatsle fans, and we blasted him a few times, mainly because he wanted to leave Newcastle.

But as we’ve seen with Joey Barton, as players get older they do mature – after all we’re all as daft as a brush when we are really young – let’s admit it. 😀

The news before Sunday’s game at Stamford Bridge was that Newcastle were interested in bringing Charles back to Newcastle, and if the lad does come back – it says an awful lot of what he really thinks about Newcastle United, and that’s not bad – not bad at all.

So after being a bit wary of Charles returning, we think it would be a good deal for Newcastle, if the club can get him for £10M or less.

Newcastle got £6M plus Ryan Taylor for him, so that’s around £7M or £8M, depending on how much you rated Ryan at the time.

As we said, Charles looked great on Sunday, and it really seems he’s maturing and of course he is now a full French International too, but there will be other top clubs in for him too.

Charles N’Zogbia would be a good use of £10M of Newcastle’s money in the summer, so we hope the rumors of Newcastle being interested in him are indeed  true.

For the record Charles turns 25 at the end of the month, and played 158 times with 9 goals for Newcastle.

N’Zogbia has played 88 times for Wigan with 18 goals, so his goal scoring prowess has improved while he’s been at Wigan, and he seems exactly what Newcastle need in the summer.

The Harfleur born player has 13 France U21 caps and one full cap – so far.

Let us know what you think about this.

I definitely think he is coming back, hopefully for a smaller fee than what we sold him and his wages will probably be less than when we first had him. All in all a good bit of business I think.

Carlton Cole is being lined up as Andy Carroll’s replacement at Newcastle.

The West Ham and England striker could be the first big name out of the door at Upton Park following their relegation to the Championship on Sunday.

Toon boss Alan Pardew – the man who took Cole to West Ham in 2006 – is understood to be keen to use some of the £35million the club got for Carroll from Liverpool to take Cole to St James’ Park.

And with the Hammers having already gone down, the 27-year-old could be available for as little as £7m.

Hmm, I did like Zoggy when he was at the club, and he showed some true talent. Only thing I worry about is his petulant attitude. Yes, he might have matured, but he’s got a big character. I worry that he might disrupt the team spirit we have at the club.

Love to have him back. Can play at either wings or left back.

Don’t mind Carlton Cole too, but not for 7m. I think 70 pounds is his correct value.

I don’t think players like Guthrie and Ameobi should leave. Sure they are are bench quality, but remember that one of our problems this year is injuries. Selling bench players will only make it worse. Look at our situation now, having to rely on inexperienced players.

He would destroy the harmony in the dressing room in about 15 minutes!! He may not be as much a t wat as Bellamy, but he’s close.

Why would you want to pay anything to disrupt what we already have?? Great player, deeply flawed individual. Not for me, put I dont have to pay him, or put up with him!!

Zogs probably worth a punt, but I doubt we’d get him cheaper than we sold him. I think a swap deal for one of our championship class players would work out ok. Depends what wigan are looking for a battler like smith maybe, and some cash.

Hope we go after Demba Ba and sign him as well as N zogbia. Both played great football in that game and Demba Ba has done nothing short of his best to try nd save the hammers in his short stint.

FFS not Carlton Cole he’s useless, his goals per game is worse than Strollers. We need a striker with a proven goal scoring record not some washed up ex West Ham player

I’d take him back, aslong as his attitude is sorted.

As for Demba Ba, i wouldnt take him no matter how good he is, he has a debilitating knee injury so he’ll spend more time on the injury table than the pitch.

I’m not even going to start on Carlton Cole. Put it this way, if we sign him, especially for £7m, it’ll be the final nail in the coffin as far as the fat mans concerned.

He’s in no way better than Best or even Strolla. Absolutely pointless step sideways signing.

Lets have Zog back here-he can destroy teams. Play him with HBA and Guiteirez and teams will not know which way to look. Please not Cole as we need pace and someone who can PUT THE BALL IN THE NET!!!!!!! Cole is NOT a prolific goalscorer and would add nothing to this team.
    Keep the Faith

As long as Zog has stopped throwing his toys out of the pram every time he doesn’t get his own way, then i think he’s worth buying. Like Shear-class says, creativity is needed plus he scores goals and has bags of pace. Our dressing room will sort out any problems with his attitude. Look at the reformed characters in our team.

I do agree with you not just with N zogbia but with any player we bring in. No point paying for a top class player who can’t fit in. This issue must be sorted before any deal is done. I hope N zogbia has matured and if not if we sign him Nolan will sort him out.

does anyone else think he has all the attributes to be a really top striker if he was played there, in the Henry mould? Before i get crucified i dont mean as good as Henry but with his pace, skill and his new found love of finidng the back of the net i think he could do very well in that position

You could have a point there mate. Would rather have him supporting a decent striker or two though. That way the goals can come from different areas of the pitch, more of a headache for opposing defenders.

Deeply concerned about his attitude problem, if we do re-sign him. I can see him and HBA falling out if he’s the N’Zogbia of old, and I’d really rather keep Ben Arfa happy to be honest.

If he does come back, we will have got a fantastic footballer; I just the hope the cost is not the harmony we have.

As for Cole, I sincerely hope the press are putting two and two together purely because Pardew’s managed him before and West Ham will be having a fire sale.

Would have him back without a moments thought. Since he left he has become a wonderful player, mainly because he has become the star man at Wigan. He is now a game changing player, and that is exactly what we need for next season. And a right winger, and versatile, which are all plus:)

I am a bit worried about his attitude (what is it with French players – especially on the left side of the pitch: Domi, Ginola (at times), Bernard, Distin, Robert, N’Zogbia) but the thought of this midfield running at defences takes those worries away.

    Jonas HBA N’Zogbia

    Tiote Barton

Just need a quality striker in front (Sturridge would be my choice).

One player I’d look for is John Fleck, 19 yr old Attacking Midfielder from Rangers. Looks a great prospect, has a good amount of pace, and his passing is top class. He can also be deployed as a striker, and his style of play has been compared to that of Wayne Rooney.

    BonVoyage Benny:

Agreed, John Fleck is a tidy prospect from the Gers.
They have a couple decent players up north. Lafferty and Jelavic aren’t too bad, Steven Davis is highly regarded in Glasgow as well as they had a good winger up there on loan from Man City called Vladimir Weiss, reckon we should go for him as well.
