Unfortunate news today that Jonas Gutierrez will not be fit for the final game of the season against West Brom on Sunday at home.
Shane Ferguson – gets a start on Sunday
The Argentine picked up a slight knock in the 2-2 draw with Chelsea, but will not make it.
However, Shane Ferguson, who also picked up an ankle injury in last Sunday’s game, will be fit, so it would appear Shane will get a start out on the left wing against West Brom.
And of course 20-year-old winger Kazenga LuaLua could also play out on the left wing, and is likely to see some action on Sunday afternoon as a sub.
Alan Pardew is anxious to finish what has been a successful season for Newcastle on a high, and he said this today:
“Unfortunately Jonas is out of Sunday, but Shane Ferguson will be fit, so we do have a few options.”
It’s unfortunate that Jonas will miss the game, but it will give the Newcastle fans another look at one of the brightest young prospects on Tyneside, and the lads will also be wearing their new home strips in the final game of the season.
Comments welcome.

“He picked up a knock.” I don’t know whether his leg is falling off or he’s got a sore toe.

Comment #8Ferguson doesn’t come in Ed, he was already in…
Hopefully it will mean a start for either LuaLua or Sammy Ameobi. Preferably Sammy, he showed some good glimpses when he came on 🙂

Comment #14Oxlade Chamberlain is the best one you’ve recommended yet Rozehnal.
From memory he’s only 17, but in 2 years he’s not going to cost 3m like he would now. He’ll be 12m. He’s in the Championship next year.
If we were smart, we’d buy him on a 5 year contract and then loan him straight back. He’ll be a machine very soon.

Comment #17Still no mention of Gosling – I’m beginning to wonder if the lad is ever coming back. I don’t like the way Pardew has made no mention of defenders coming in, because Sunday once again proved that we are a bloody soft touch for balls in the air across our box. Colo, in particular doesn’t attack the ball, the very reason he never gets on the end of our own set pieces in the opposition area unlike the oft maligned Taylor. Simpson is another lightweight, and we badly need a couple of big, strong, physical defenders, or next season will see far too many easy goals again for the opposition. Strikers needed of course, but please let us have a couple of big decent defenders. I don’t why people keep putting Vuckic in their team for Sunday, when he is nowhere near fit. Makes me wonder if some posters actually keep up to speed with what is going on at SJP.

Comment #22Birts – Vuckic isn’t even in full training. Nufc 90 – more up to speed than you, I’ve just come back from the training complex. You are obviously taking the word of the likes of Pardew who told that he would be out for 3 weeks after his 2nd operation in February. Bloody long 3 weeks. Those who know me, know that I am a retired medical professional, who looked after professional sportsmen for more than ten years. The lad has been out for an inordinate length of time for the injury he sustained, and I sincerely hope the lack of information isn’t ominous.

Comment #27I’ve done my bit. I’m 76 and worked full time for 48 years. I reckon I’ve earned my down time. I still do part time work to help my nephew whi is an agent and legal advisor to many players, including 3 at NUFC. Geordie Rob – I don’t know mate, because I don’t know exactly why Stoke knocked him back, something to do with the knee. It would be up to our medical staff to view the ‘plates’ and ultra sounds, and put him through a stringent test of their own. On the other hand, I do know a bit about the Gosling situation, and the main problem has always been the tissue damage done around the ligament, and was the reason Everton adopted a wait and see stance, before offering him a long contract. A wise precaution as it turned out, but I obviously wish the lad well.

Comment #28GeordieToon89-good shout on trying to sign Kyle walker from spurs .My mate is a villa fan where walker has been on loan ,and says he is absolute quality ,pace, power, tricky and could give simmo real comp for RB slot .reckon a 5-6 m bid would get him like !!!

Comment #29Shane should handle it no problem. I’ve liked the lad ever since he stood up to Ben Haim. Better crosser than Jonas to IMO. I’d also prefer Sammy to Lua Lua. Lua Lua looked a little rusty when he came up but Ameobi was up for it!

Comment #3109nufc09 – spot 0n, but what worries me is that the present medical staff seem to be very slow in diagnosing some of these injuries when they first occur. I know you sometimes have to wait a few days for swelling to subside before you can get accurate x-rays and ultra sounds, there seems to be a fair bit of mis -diagnosing going on, for example when Carroll was first injured, similarly Barton and Ireland, and as you say Vuckic.

hey im just saying we need to concentrate on better players..if we want to get to europe in the next few years.. elmander would probably be on 30k per week…with those wages you can pay 5 youngsters.. besides..some are saying he would be a decent back up player…well…id rather have youngsters to be backups..not finished articles..
