Some good news today that the Newcastle United non-playing staff could get an unexpected bonus, if Newcastle beat West Brom today.
Mike Ashley - offers £500K bonus for Newcastle win
The Sunday Mirror is reporting that owner Mike Ashley is offering a £500K bonus to people like the office staff and caterers at the Tyneside club, if the lads can win their final game today at home to West Brom.
That’s really good news, because we remember sadly two years ago, when the overpaid footballers at Newcastle got the club relegated, and it was this staff who were cut drastically.
They were sacked to cut costs, as players like Michael Owen jetted off in his helicopter, not saying a word to anybody, and never to be seen again.
And Michael was the Newcastle captain, so you can understand what the team spirit must have been like in those days.
We think this is a terrific gesture by the owner, credit where credit is due, and a suitable incentive for the lads to go all out today to get the vital win.
And a win will have Newcatsle finish in the top 10 in the Premier League, and crown an amazing comeback over these last two seasons, and of course the club gets around £800K extra for every place it climbs in the PL.
Finishing in the top 10 will increase that payback, and also position the club nicely for this summer’s transfer window.
There’s been no end of season malaise with this Newcastle side, and they were tremendous last week at Chelsea, when the lads ended up with a 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge, with a very weakened side.
A win is what we all want to see today, and we expect the lads to play like their lives depended on it this afternoon – and get the faithful staff at Newcastle the bonus they thoroughly deserve.
Howay The Lads!!
