Ashley Offers £500K Bonus For Win Against West Brom

10:15 am, Sunday, May 22nd, 2011 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 33 Comments

Some good news today that the Newcastle United non-playing staff could get an unexpected bonus, if Newcastle beat West Brom today.

Mike Ashley - offers £500K bonus for Newcastle win

The Sunday Mirror is reporting that owner Mike Ashley is offering a £500K bonus to people like the office staff and caterers at the Tyneside club, if the lads can win their final game today at home to West Brom.

That’s really good news, because we remember sadly two years ago, when the overpaid footballers at Newcastle got the club relegated, and it was this staff who were cut drastically.

They were sacked to cut costs, as players like Michael Owen jetted off in his helicopter, not saying a word to anybody, and never to be seen again.

And Michael was the Newcastle captain, so you can understand what the team spirit must have been like in those days.

We think this is a terrific gesture by the owner, credit where credit is due,  and a suitable incentive for the lads to go all out today to get the vital win.

And a win will have Newcatsle finish in the top 10 in the Premier League, and crown an amazing comeback over these last two seasons, and of course the club gets around £800K extra for every place it climbs in the PL.

Finishing in the top 10 will increase that payback, and also position the club nicely for this summer’s transfer window.

There’s been no end of season malaise with this Newcastle side, and they were tremendous last week at Chelsea, when the lads  ended up with a 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge, with a very weakened side.

A win is what we all want to see today, and we expect the lads to play like their lives depended on it this afternoon – and get the faithful staff at Newcastle the bonus they thoroughly deserve.

Howay The Lads!!

Comments welcome.

Big indicator today regarding who stays. The reaction at the final whistle by the likes of Enrique, Barton and Nolan may give an indication of their plans.

As for FatAshes gesture – good on yer fatty – but one swallow doesnt make a marriage

Well done MA, I think MA is a good man he just had to sort the club out (Wages, dept etc.) before we could really progress, during this time more and more people started to hate him even no he was doing the right thing. Now thanks to MA we are in a good position to progress and I for one thank him.

So Mr Ashley does have a heart after all

  • 6 BlacknWhite Barmy // May 22, 2011 at 10:29 AM

Juggalo and co – dont get too mushy over fatty – he is probably writing it off against tax.

Go to Spotdirekt if you want to see some highly motivated staff

He’s made his mistakes, but Ashley really isn’t the anti-Christ, as many on here would have you believe. We’re ready to kick on, I think, for the first time since before he took over. This gesture is nice, but it’s not the tiniest patch on what he’s done for our club. What we need now is good, intelligent investment. I think we’ll get it.

Does anyone know what the new Away and 3rd kit look like?

  • 9 JUGGALO TOON ™ // May 22, 2011 at 10:35 AM

I have always supported MA and forever will while he owns our club but I can understand why people hate him and Im sure MA understands iswell but yet he sticks with us even with all the abuse

Brilliant news to hear – they honestly deserve it, I can’t imagine the last 2 years will have been easy for anyone behind the scenes. A win today will see the fans leave SJP happy for the final time this season, something that is owed to the fans after 2 years ago. HWTL.

Juggaloo…on MA…”yet he sticks with us, even with all the abuse”….he must be a Saint instead of the Anti -Christ then? Nowt to do with having a business with tens of thousands of addicts like yourself, willing to pour money into it and accept any old shite thrown at them….. just to get their fix of football?

500 k !! The tight measley fat so and so!

Hey we need some negative comments on here, would be this blog site with out the doom mongers haha!

Nah cracking news if true, hes such an hard man to know how to feel about, i was delighted when he came and remained a loyal supporter of his for a long time, until he completey messed up in the relegation season / transfer windows and bitterly hated the man for crushing my club.

However since then, getting rid of some unsavoury fellows, Wise and Kinnear, he has started doing things correctly.
I stand by his transfer policey and wage structure, we are not Man Citeh and i dont want to be either!
Hes got us out of the red with other creditors and his youth policey is the best ive ever seen in my years of watching the club.

Keep it going Mike, my fear is you often take two steps forward and one step back!

    I live in fearful optimisim!

I’ve met Mike Ashley a couple of times through friends/work colleagues – and the very first time I met him a friend of mine mentioned in his ear without me knowing, that I was a massive Newcastle fan. He immediately came over to me, held his hand out and introduced himself. He spent a good 45 minutes talking with me one on one about the club and you know – he came across as such a nice guy. He seemed to me at least to be genuinely passionate about the club and yeah – it was just like talking to my mates in the pub about the club I love.

He has made some “mad” choices over the time he has owned the club – and I would never say I agree with everything he has done, or the way he has done it – but from meeting the guy – I’m more surprised there aren’t more articles like this – he really went out if his way to talk to me and indulge my fanatic ranting!!

    He’s not the anti-christ you know……
