The transfer season is about to get under way and news today that Newcastle have just signed French youth international winger Mehdi Abeid, following a recent trial with the club.
Alan Pardew – we will bring in quality this summer
He will be one for the future of course, but it seems that manager Alan Pardew is interested in bringing some top talent to Newcastle this summer.
This is the message he had for Newcastle fans today:
“The hard work starts here” “We want to have better players next year, and get the maximum out of them.”
“We’re in that process – that’s all I can say. I think it’s important we bring in quality players.” “We missed a lot of players this season.”
“There’s no way we’d have lost that lead against West Brom with Cheick Tiote and Kevin Nolan in the team.”
“We need more quality players that can come in and make sure we win more games next year – it’s as simple as that.”
Alan had said yesterday the club would sign an International midfielder this week, but he seems to have backed away from that a little today, saying that no signings are imminent.
Newcastle are also said to be keen to bring in former winger Charles N’Zogbia, but his price will now be around £10M, as Wigan amazingly won their last two games of the season to survive again in the Premier League.
We thought they had no chance at Stoke but came away with a brave 1-0 win, and manager Roberto Martinez produced yet another miracle.
Birmingham City were caught in the relegation trap yesterday, but since winning the Carling cup they have gone about trying not to lose games, and that has all been rather boring and has hardly been a courageous way to play the game..
Even yesterday when they were 1-0 down they didn’t make an attacking change until 20 minutes left in the game, but two Roman Pavlyuchenko goals were enough to see them off.
Birmingham were relegated yesterday for the third time in five years.
Somebody should tell them that fortune favors the brave, but we have to say wee feel really sorry for their fans, who looked completely mortified after the game.
We know the feeling.
