Newcastle have been continually linked with Juan Albin from Getafe this year.
Juan Albin – moves from Getafe to Espanyol
So we don’t know if Albin was a top target of Newcastle , but we doubt it.
However, if he was then Newcastle have missed out on the player, since Espanyol have now finalized a deal for the forward.
Newcastle were first linked with this player over a year ago, and Spanish sources at the time were suggesting Newcastle already had a deal in place, but that obviously didn’t happen.
The Salto, Uruguay born player is 24 and stands 5’11”, and played for Nacional in Uruguay from 2004 through 2006.
He appeared 64 times with 24 goals for Nacional before moving to Getafe, where he played around 116 times for the Spanish club with 19 goals.
Espanyol, which is based in Barcelona, have confirmed on their web-site they had signed two Uruguayan players:
“The Uruguayans Juan Albin and Adrian Luna have become Espanyol players for the next five seasons after agreements were reached with Getafe and Sporting Club respectively,”
We do expect Newcastle to sign a couple of free agents this summer, but Albin will not be one of them.
This player is not to be confused with Albin Ebondo, who is the right back from Toulouse that Joe Kinnear tried to sign in January of 2009, but the price kept going up.
That may also be happening right now with Toulouse’ current left-back Cheikh M’Bengue who Newcastle are interested in, but only if Jose Enrique leaves Newcastle.
Ebondo joined Saint-Étienne last year for an undisclosed fee.
