Newcastle Now Ready To Kick On For Next Season

It was not a good way to end the season on Sunday, but that’s now over with – and Newcastle must push on this summer and significantly strengthen their squad.

Daniel Sturridge – would be great buy for Newcastle

Newcastle have been linked with some good players this year like Gervinho, Kevin Gameiro, Charles N’Zogbia and Daniel Sturridge, but have also been linked with rather ordinary and older players like Carlton Cole and Jay Bothroyd, so it’s not clear what class of player Pardew will bring in.

But the manager did make a point yesterday that it’s only quality players Newcastle are interested in, so we assume that excludes players like Cole and Bothroyd, even if Jay is a free agent and would cost nothing in transfer fees.

Steven Taylor, the star of the game on Sunday, admitted it was a disappointing way to end the season:

“It was disappointing just to let West Brom score one goal, so everything that happened after that was obviously a massive let-down,” “It was a sour note at the finish because that shouldn’t be happening, especially at home.”

“We wanted to finish on a high, in the top half of the table.” “The home form wasn’t what we wanted right the way through the campaign. We would definitely have liked to have picked up a couple more home wins.”

“Having said that though, people had us in the relegation battle at the start of the season, so we have to be fairly pleased with finishing 12th. We proved a lot of people wrong.

“We have to kick on and improve next season. The first target has to be finishing above 12th. The players are good enough to do that, and we have great team spirit. When we were in Ireland during pre-season, and as a team we agreed that the priority was avoiding relegation.”

“For our first season back in the Premier League, we have to accept that as a decent performance.” “We know how difficult a league it is, and we can be proud we weren’t one of the five teams fighting for their lives on the final day. It’s not a nice position to be in, as we know here at Newcastle.”

We have to look on the bright side, and try to put the disaster of Sunday firmly behind us, although it was still a terrible way to end what has been a good season for the club.

Newcastle will need to hang onto their best players as step one, and then bring in at least four top new players this summer.

And of course also bring in some younger players for the future, which we are already seeing, as 18 year old French U18 International Mehdi Abeid was recently signed.

Newcastle have the money available, and seem to have the will too, so now they need to go out and execute flawlessly in the transfer market this summer, and we could even end up with a really good side next season.

We’d love to see N’Zogbia and Sturridge sign on at the club this summer, because both have qualities that would significantly add to the Newcastle side.

“We have to look on the bright side, and try to put the disaster of Sunday firmly behind us”…..

Let’s do that, and see if we can have no further mention of Sunday’s match on this wonderful blog. No offence, Ed, but you do have a tendency to dwell on the negative. Carroll’s sale still pops up every now and then.

Any idea about this midfielder then?

    Markaccus – Not long apparently.

I’ll take Sturridge, Gervinho and Samba. Anything else is a bonus (unless it’s Carlton Cole). 🙂

Thought as much :D. I think 5 players in, keeping most of what we have for back up and experience (not kuqi though) then our squad would be big enough to have a go at a cup next year. LB,CB,winger, 2 fowards.

If Gervinho is the guy who we are genuinely after (and i’d love this to be true but im very sceptical) then how much are we expecting to pay for his services?
I’ve got absolutely no idea how much he’s worth.

And besides, a lad at work was telling me this morning that the French press seem to be reporting that we’ve bid / re-bid for Gamiero €10m so perhaps he’s the chap we’re after and Gervinho is nothing but rumour and smoke screens?

toonbelmonter – I think he’ll end up at Arsenal anyway, and yeah, we do have Willo and Taylor. My personal preferrence would be to see Taylor given a shot at playing CDM, so there might yet be room for another CB. I just really like Samba. I think he’d have been one of the most astute signings of the window, outside of the positions we NEED to fill. Shame really.

Yeah well, certainly it’s good that the club is actively and even aggressively finding transfer targets for a change…When was the last time that we have been able to hear news from the first day that the season ended ? All I could remember were windows where we were always relatively inactive for much of the window and really left many of us frustrated.

I would take Sturridge all day long. I would even pay up to £15million for him. He’s a young, top class striker and he can score spectacular goals from where other players can’t. I hope Mr. Carr is out there scouting players like Tiote, because we need a lot of Tiote’s before we can even think about Europe.
