Confusion Over Gameiro At Newcastle Journal

There’s an article by Luke Edwards today in the local Newcastle Journal that’s  reporting the news that Newcastle have increased their offer for Kevin Gameiro of  French club Lorient.

Kevin Gameiro – have Newcastle put in increased offer?

The news was initially in the Daily Mail this morning and although the Frenchman wants to go to Spain, he may be open to a switch to Newcastle – we hope.

But then would you believe in the same edition of the Journal today, correspondent Mark Douglas has come out and written a contrasting story:

Meanwhile United are unlikely to sign Lorient’s highly coveted striker Kevin Gameiro – despite fresh reports from France that Newcastle have lodged an £8M bid.

There was interest and an offer from St James’ Park last month, but Newcastle have moved onto other targets after Gameiro’s representatives indicated that the player would prefer to move to Spain.

Although United would happily return if  Gameiro has a change of heart, fellow suitors Valencia are firmly in the driving seat.

It seems the two writers are not communicating with  each other.

And the news today is that the new bid is for £10M with Newcastle initially putting in an £8M bid, at least that’s what the reports have said.

It’s more than confusing as to what the truth is coming out of the Tyneside club, and this is not meant to be a criticism – it’s just odd, that’s all.

Of course I’ve been known to even disagree with myself on any one day too. 😀

Comments welcome.

The Chronicle and Journal writers are in an awkward position as the club doesn’t speak to the press much.

They really know less than the readers on this blog, where hotel & airport sightings and other info is often posted.

Doesn’t stop the hacks writing rubbish and picking up their wages.

Thats the nature of journalists. Like somebody said on an earlier thread, we won’t know for sure until afterwards, that he’s either signed for us, for a certain fee, or we lodged a bid that was refused. The club play their cards very close to the chest these days, which is infuriating when you want to know, but sensible from the business point of view.

I dont think we will sign Gameiro.

Gervinho however, I think we will definitely sign him, and he will be the start of several more very popular and interesting signings, if not spectacular signings like previous years.

Gervinho, Sturridge, a new right back, another attacking midfielder and if Enrique goes, another left back and I think we’ll be in fine fettle for next season.

I reckon Robbie Keane proved at West Ham that hes nowhere near the player he used to be, we dodged a bullet not getting him in January, I really hope we arent after him again.

The only reason I dont think we will sign Gameiro is because he wants to go to Spain BUT having read a bit more about it he only wants to go there because he is unsure that he would do well in our league if its proven tohim that he could am sure he would be willing to sign

I believe Pardew has come out and said that Ben Arfa will play the role as Attacking Midfielder / Just behind the Striker… so i think we have that area Sorted…

I believe we need Gervinho. Sturridge, another winger (Menez) a Rightback and ofcourse if the bull leaves, a lb

I’m shocked, stunned, bamboozled that 2 writers of the same paper get different ends of the stick,,… yeah rite, neither of them have any idea & are probably doing an Angryman v Stuart scenario where 1 of the will be rite & the other wrong… nothing new there then!!!

I thought we’d increasd the £8m (10m euro) bid to £10m because of his preference for Spain. We’re in a better position, moneywise, to complete the transfer than Valencia, but if the player will only agree terms with them, we have to move on. It all remains to be seen, I suppose.

these reports are all smokescreens we never signed the players we were linked with last time round i believe the nzogbia one i think gervinho (only wants champs league football) and gameiro (wants to play in spain “pussy”) are just pipedreams we again will sign players who havnt been mentioned.

I’m leaning more towards what’s being said by Twitter accounts @fur10ng and @cwarr07. They are both reading off the same page.

Reckon gervinho is 75% pardew may convince. Gameiro is 50/50 because he wants a Spanish move yet we are the only team bidding 10mil and upwards, lorient holding for nearer 14mil, with valencia’s money predicament that could be difficult.

If we get Gervinho for 8-10m I think that is great business tbh when we sell Carroll for 35m lol

Carroll was great in his first season but 35m? If the proces were based on that gervinho would cost30+m

I think we should really back off Gameiro and let him go to Spain. Obviously he thinks the spanish style suits him better. No point bringing him here if he doesn’t want to play in this league.

I think it would be better if the club spoke about these situations. Why not? If Gameiro is going to end up here then why not tell us, it’s better for the press and the fans. Obviously, if he’s not coming and Newcastle have not lodged a bid for the player, then that’s different and I’d understand that. They should still come out and settle the press by stating whether or not they have made a bid for the player. It doesn’t take much time, all Pardew needs to do is walk outside and then they’ll be press all around him!
