It seems that Newcastle may indeed have given up on trying to keep Jose Enrique on Tyneside.
Jose Enrique – will be leaving Newcastle
Alan Pardew will not even bother trying to keep Enrique, if his mind is on other clubs, which it seems to be with Alan’s statement recently:
“There’s no point keeping a player who has set his sights on a club he has perceived is bigger,” Pardew said. “You can’t keep a player that’s unmotivated.”
While there were claims that Liverpool would bid £15M for a player whose contract runs out in a short 12 months, there is news that Liverpool have bid a low £4M for the player, and Newcastle quite rightly have rejected it.
The Daily Mirror is reporting today that Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish is a big fan of the 25-year-old and no doubt will come back with an improved offer.
We would hope that when Enrique finally leaves, the fee will be much closer to £10M, and we hope there’s a bidding war for him to push up the price.
But of course if Newcastle turn down all the offers, they could lose the Spaniard for nothing next summer.
And it’s only right that Newcastle will not try to keep a player who wants to leave the club- if they don’t want to play for Newcastle United, fine – they should move on.
But talk of getting £15M for Jose, seems a bit far fetched for a player who is a free agent in 12 months time, but hey – if a club bids that much – great – we’ll take it.
It’s just a pity that Jose kept saying he would wait until the end of he season before discussing a new contract, or was it when Newcastle were safe?
That’s because it now looks like he knew all along that he was going to leave.
Just think Newcastle could be willing to sell Carroll, Enrique and Barton in a few short months.
Comments welcome.

Comment #14M is a joke. Even for a left back with one year left on their contract! More like 8-10 for someone of Jose’s standards.

Comment #3Hey if w’re bidding £8-10 million for Germerio who is also in his last yr, then we can expect the same amount for Jose.

Comment #5This is disgusting. Why don’t we just put a sign out in front of SJP “our players are all for sale to the highest bidder, owner will provide transportation for speedy medical, no reasonable offer refused”. The owner is clearly making sure he gets his money out as quickly as possible. The club management is a disaster and has been a disaster since Ashley arrived. After his treatment of Keegan no decent manager even wants the job. That’s why we have Pardew now.

Comment #11They know they throwed silly money for AC, and want to compensate on this transfer.
Haha, £4m for one of the best left backs in the PL.
Go to hell Pool.
And if aspiration of Jose is to play for Pool, let him go, but for much bigger fee.
They certainly wont qualify in CL next year.
Well, not under Dalglish guidance.

Comment #17GeordieTwo, why spend money on a sign telling everybody what every body already knows? Anyway most clubs could put that sign up.

Comment #18From Joey ‘I dont want to leave I love it here. I will be here next season no way I am getting sold but after next year his hands are tied……(missing out a bit) hopefully within a year new owners will be in. I love this club and the fans know that. I want to bring a trophy to the club’

Comment #20This is a Liverpool trait.
They tap a player up during the season so he is mad keen to go…Then they low ball on the fee hoping the player pushes it through by refusing to go elsewhere.
They have been reported several times in the past for tapping up.
£8m is his price I think.

Joey is an evertonian and I bet he would go there in a flash.
Exept they cannot afford the fee or his £50k+ wages.
If Joey Barton really wants to write himself into Geordie folklore he should knock fat ashley out next time he sees him…….”I would love it, Love it”

Comment #32Good point GG, although I don’t think most teams start the off-season by telling one of their best players that they won’t be offering him a new contract. I don’t care for the man but Barton was one of our top 3 players all season. Surely we need a spine of proven players to build on. I hope things improve for us over the next 3 months but I still hope for a new owner with some real football ambition some day (sooner rather than later, I’m not getting any younger)!

He will be playing out of his socks to prove he is worth his wages at another club imo. 65k a week is a lot for a 30 year old

Very true but as you say Everton cant afford him so he is stuck. A year is a long time as well so am happy with him atleast staying a year
