What Effect Will Barton Situation Have On Kevin Nolan?

There’s little disputing that Kevin Nolan and Joey Barton have been the  two leaders of the Newcastle side this season.

Kevin Nolan – let’s hope he signs a new deal – soon!

So it was shocking news yesterday that Joey will not be offered a new deal on Tyneside, and it even seems as though there is even ill feeling between Joey and the powers that be at Newcastle – mainly Mike Ashley and Derek LLambias.

We were hoping Kevin Nolan, Joey Barton and Jose Enrique would all stay at the club, and sign new long term deals.

The order of the names is important, because we thought Kevin was very likely to sign, Joey was likely to sign, and Jose was if anything was  unlikely to sign – but we just didn’t really know about Jose.

But now that Joey will not be offered a new contract,  you would think that Newcastle would want to nail down Kevin on a five year deal, and announce it very soon.

We’ve almost lost hope on Jose, unless he shocks everybody by saying he will stay – and surely we should hear soon whether he wants to stay or go?

He owes that to Newcastle, who will need to bring in a new left back this summer if Enrique decides to leave for pastures anew.

Kevin is currently on crutches following ankle surgery, and refused to say much about any contract negotiations, but was willing to talk about the injury:

“Everything is going well with the injury.” “And I will be fit and raring to go in time for the start of pre-season.”

But we have to think that Kevin is very disappointed at the club’s announcement they will not offer Joey a new deal, since only last week Kevin had said that he and Joey could lead Newcastle back into Europe.

Kevin and Joey both on and off the field are the leaders of the Newcastle club, and we just wonder what Kevin thinks about all of this?

With the team spirit being so great these last two seasons on Tyneside, the Owner and Managing Director have to be very careful that they don’t upset the apple cart, and start to destroy that spirit by their actions this summer.

Surely they know who the really important players are at Newcastle?

But maybe not.

Comments welcome.

To think of all the optimism which was floating around just a couple of days ago, to be reading this now? I said the other day on another thread that a year is a long time in football and anything can change. Using the same logic, it turns out that 48 hours is a long time in football.

Very difficult to understand what the owner thinks this will achieve. A 4 year deal would take Barton to 32 and he has offered to sign for less money. How is that unreasonable? Barton has been a key player for us this season so what message does this send the rest of the team? It says to me that Ashley is playing a dangerous game. Especially with Jose already looking like he will leave. If the owner plays the same game with Jose he will be gone! Then we have to replace 2 proven performers just to stay level with this season. We have only released 2 of our non-performers, Kuqi and Campbell while other teams have already released 4-6. I realize contracts enter into this but surely we are not going to keep Perch? If our team has such great depth in youth talent why do we need Perch? The job ahead to improve this team looks massive and I don’t think this owner and manager are up to it. The owner should have bought himself a perennial Championship team to play with, not a club the size of Newcastle.

Just checked Pratley’s stats on Wikipedia (don’t ever remember seeing him play). Hardly impressive 26 Goals in 177 games for Swansea (9 in 30 this year). No better than what we’ve got.

I was very optimistic about us building a really good team for next year with both Barton and Nolan the heartbeat of the team, Capt and Vice Capt. They dictate the play and the enthusiasm of the team.
I would not be surprised if Nolan wants away now, and lets be far who would blame him, he must be so frustrated. I know one or two players dont make a team but ripping the heart out of it could destroy it.
I think M.A is showing his ignorant side again just as I was starting to believe he was coming round to our way of thinking. He obviously does not give a toss about the team or the supporters if he sells Barton and I bet this had a domino effect with other players.

Has anything officially been said from the club about Barton?? or from Barton?? I don’t trust agents..

The season has only just finished and already some of you are talking about relegation.. !!WTF!! time to calm down a bit..

When the transfer window closes and if Big Boy Ash has not splashed the cash… then talk about relegation..

    Far out!

I don’t see why people are mad if Joey Barton is one the way out simple because:

-He is 28 yrs old, coming 29 yrs old. He got like 2-3 seasons left.
-Spend 3 seasons at jail and those other problems
    – 65k per week. Mike Ashley business thing can easily find a younger and cheaper option to replace him
    – We will attract more players if he left us
    – He will claim he is the best midfield in England and then after that he performance goes down – should have shut up his mouth.
    – we got Nolan as our good captain

Enrique and Barton look set to leave the club.

Both of these players are our core players.

We have waited for Barton to get over his bad patch of injuries and off-field antics and have finally seen him shine for Newcastle.

Barton has been very reliable in midfield for us, despite being played out of position on the right wing for most parts of the season.

So I do not understand why can’t we just tie him down for his prime years. Barton has very good delivery, puts in good tackles and can shoot from distance.

Barton, to me, is at the moment almost like the Lampard of Chelsea or Gerrard of Liverpool.

I also understand that Mike Ashley wants to take the club to another level. That involves off-loading players who are not up to the standard. IF that is the case, then players such as Perch, Ryan Taylor and of course Ameobi should be the ones we let go.

35 million in an inflated transfer industry is peanuts. So if we think we can happily build a team capable of pushing for Europe with 35mil, dream on.

Lastly, WHY are we letting our core players with PL experience leave ? We should keep our core players and let our new signings adapt to the league and team before we off-load them if there is a need to.

Manchester United did not off-load berbatov before signing hernandez did they ?

“But we have to think that Kevin is very disappointed at the club’s announcement they will not offer Joey a new deal”

So Willie McKay’s word now is the club’s word as well. I haven’t read that the club has announced anything. This is McKay stirring things up AGAIN, and it’s working. Look at the animosity in the posts since he decided he’s use the media to get himself a better deal.

I’d be happy to let Barton go, if only to get his filthy, disgusting agent away from our club.

Barton’s been offered contracts, for whatever reason, they haven’t been accepted.

None of the recent news comes from the agents and other media sources, not the player or the club. Let’s not start flinging accusations around about either just yet.
