Newcastle After Top International Attacking Midfielder

Sky Sports News is reporting today that Newcastle United are again after Cameroon international midfielder Achille Emana.

Achille Emana – top Cameroon midfielder to join Tiote on Tyneside?

One disadvantage is that Emana turns 29 in early June, and that seems a bit old for the players Newcastle are trying to recruit this summer – younger players who can still improve on Tyneside.

The 28-year-old is at Real Betis, who are located in Andalusia in the south of Spain, and the club have only just promoted back to the Primera Division in Spain – they were relegated two years ago..

There is news that Emana is keen to try his luck in England, but we have no evidence of any real Newcastle interest, other than the Sky Sports report today.

Sky Sports is reporting that Everton, Tottenham, Birmingham, West Ham and Wigan have all been keeping tabs on the player, but they are reporting today that Newcastle are trying right now to strike a deal with the player’s club Real Betis.

Achille  would not come too cheap, and he is valued at around £6M, but Newcastle are trying to get a better deal for the player who was born in Yaoundé, Cameroon.

Newcastle had been interested in the player three years ago, but of course he was then three years younger, so we’re not too sure of the validity of the Sky Sports report, although they have a decent track record in general.

The player is an attacking midfielder who stands just short of 6′ tall, so maybe he is the central midfield player Alan Pardew said he was trying to buy this week – that may be the case – maybe – possibly -perhaps.

The 28 year old started his career at Babimbi Douala in the Cameroon League in 1997 before moving to Valencia in Spain in 1999, where he stayed for only one year before moving to French club Toulouse ion 2000.

In July of 2008 he joined Real Betis for a fee of £5.5M, and has played around 88 times for the Spanish club hitting a good 34 goals.

While at Toulouse for 7 seasons, Achille made 231 appearances with 28 goals, and he so far has 37 caps for Cameroon with 5 goals.

Let us know what you think about this player for Newcastle.

No thanks. We have enough in midfield and on a personal level i would like to see Vuckic more next season. We also have young Gosling. We need bloody wingers especially on the right hand side and we need two top strikers ie Sturridge would be one of them, a top class player with years ahead of him. I would forget about Gemeiro sorry not sure how to spell his name but he want to go to Spain and i for one do not want to be somebody’s second or third choice. N’Zogbia would also be a top signing although Liverpool are sniffing, Dalgliesh….i hate that twat, prefer bloody Bruce lol. Gervinho is another long shot and i believe he could be ARSENAL bound.

Get Rid of Alan Slow Smith and replace with this guy. Remember we got Gosling as backup for Tiote

This guy is a very good player. Quick and skillful and he averages a goal every three games from midfield for Betis. He might take Nolan’s place in the team as he offers a goal threat but is more athletic and mobile.

yes he wants to go to Valencia who are £500m in debt, they are finding it hard to get credit so he will have to play for nothing.

There is nothing wrong in buying experienced players, if they have some class. Imo… If we are to follow arsenals example, every now and then we will see players in that group of age coming inn..

To be honest, I’m a bit worried about all the African players we’re after. We already have Tiote. If we sign two or three more, we’ll be really weakened when the African cup of nations start.

he might be a good player but im not a fan of this idea.. younger, faster, with better technique..& who doesnt go to AFNC.. besides..CM is the last position we need to upgrade..

RB, CD, wingers, strikers..& if theres money left then sign CM.

Sign up the core – Enrique, Barton, Nolan etc and forget about signing these championship flops…. squad players my arse waste of breath more like.

By the sounds of things we are not going to get anywhere near Gervinho, Gameiro, (might get) Zog but 5 million is an insult for his talent, Sturridge (doubt).

Also who is Marvin Martins everyone bums him on this blog, I have never heard of the lad. Think a lot of people are in champ manager mode… nothing wrong with blind optimism though 😉

    Dave,

Spot on. Valencia may want him, he may want them. But he’s going to have to take a lot less than what we offer. They may not even be able to match the offer we’ve apparently had accepted.

That would only really affect us for a month (I think) which would destroy our chances of winning the league yes but we arent after that so even if we are without 3 (tops I would say) first teamers we could still end up in a better position in next years league. plus it would gve our youngsters and back ups a chance to impress so I am not that worried about that but I see why people would be

I`d like to congratulate NUFC on staying in the Premier League despite all the problems that they had in the season. There were problems like: suspensions and injuries, not to mention the weak squad. There was a lack of quality in the squad and we should accept it. I know that we play several reserve players last Sunday but we cannot concede three goals easily and we were playing at home what is unacceptable. The first team players are so-so, although, in my opinion they always do their best and most reserve players are not good enough for the Premier League. I hope that Alan Pardew will be successful in the transfer window. We don`t need any “star” or high priced players we need the right players for the right positions, we need more quality players those who can change a match for example we lost to West Brom(3X1) and Bolton(5×1) Barton, Nolan and Enrique played both matches and the question is : Who could change both matches? Players like: Gervinho, Charles N`Zogbia and Gameiro would be very good options. If Enrique wants to leave the club it is ok as football is not about passion or love it is about money and if we get 10 or 15 million pounds from this sale then we shall be able to sign another good left back and I also think that if any player (including Enrique) thinks that Newcastle United aren`t a big club and if they aren`t committed to the club then they must leave. We need players that are committed to the club and players who enjoy playing for Newcastle United. We need a right back, a left back, a defensive midfielder, a right winger, a left winger and a striker. Alan Pardew should give the young players like Shane Ferguson and Samuel Ameobi more playing time I think it is better than bring in unknown players, We don`t need any goalkeeper. I`m looking forward to the next season. I`d like to apologise the NUFC fans here in this blog if sometimes I write something that seems to be harsh but the fact is that as a NUFC fan I to see better players in our squad and I believe all of you want the same thing.

    Darlo,

An insult? Really? They offered 5mil. What’s the worst that could happen. The worst thing is that they could say no.

4m is an insult for Jose Enrique, but it didn’t stop the bindippers trying.

Looks like Fatman is getting us ready to be sold, (get high earners off the books, replace with cheaper options with lower wages) recipe for disaster.

It could only happen at the Toon – so much optimism before the baggies game 3-0 and then THIS.

    Concede 3
Barton ready to go for nowt
    Enrique as good as gone
Top players seem to be rejecting us
    Nolan contract stalls
Linked to a Swansea midfielder – cos hes free
Now wot Reo Cocker and Carew – cos there free

This transfer window will show just what ambition the club have – and how much a yes man pardew is.

We cant expect to let go the likes of Enrique, Barton, Nolan (Guti also linked) and expect other peaples cast offs to move us forward.
The fatman better be ready to spend some of his transfer budget on the likes of Sturridge or we are looking at the Chumpionship again

When I looked at the link that “free giveaways” posted I think I saw the best player in the world. This lad looked fantastic, very fine technic and very quick on the ball and very good passing abillity! I would be very happy if we can get him! He turns 29 this year, but we need some experience in the team too (campbell and kuqi isnt here anylonger). If Enrique signs, and we can get this lad,Nzogbia and Gameiro in the silly season, I think we can fight for a Europe League place, already next season:-)!
