News today that Newcastle officials have been very busy on up to three deals, that would represent an excellent start to the transfer window, if they can close them.
Kevin Gameiro – Newcastle after him – this week?
There have apparently been two separate approaches to French club Lorient in an effort to sign their top striker Kevin Gameiro, with news of an improved offer of £10M.
But Gameiro only yesterday welcomed interest from Spanish club Valancia, since he has made it very clear that he would prefer a move to Spain.
So we don’t know how the bid has been received by Lorient, and whether Kevin may be looking at playing in England, even though that would not be his first choice.
The other player Newcatsle are after is Gervinho, who has been a long term target and news this week that`Alan Pardew will meet with the player.
The 20 times capped Ivory Coast international can play on either wing or through the middle, and while he is not the finished product, he seems to have lots of natural skill and flair.
But Gervinho has also been interesting Arsenal and Manchester City, and since his club Lille were French Champions this year, he will leave the French club but wants European Champions League football, and of course both Arsenal and the Eastlands club can provide that.
Pardew has not given up on ether player and of course Newcatsle can pay the transfer deals in cool cash, which has to be a big advantage in arranging a deal.
This is what Alan Pardew said today:
“We’ve given a player a deadline this week, so that’ll be interesting,” “We think that’s 60-40 in our favor.”
“We are pitching for a striker that we bid for – that’s been reported. We’re hopeful on that but we’ll have to wait and see. There’s no real feedback from the club on that. And we’re pitching for another couple of players.”
“If I was a Newcastle fan, we’re making the right noises on that front. I’m sure the fans are disappointed about the Joey situation but we are trying to take the club forward by signing players.”
So it seems that Newcatsle are after three players, Gervinho, Gameiro, and maybe the third is Wigan’s Charles N’Zogbia, and Newcastle have been reported to have put in an initial bid of £5M.
Swansea’s Darren Pratley has also been mentioned this week, but Darren doesn’t seem to be in the same class as the other three.
If Newcastle can sign Gervinho, Gameiro and N’Zogbia that would be unbelievable, but there has to be little chance of signing all three – although if we can get one through the door early, that would be very good.
Newcastle seem to be doing all the right things to get the transfer season off to a good start, but it’s always difficult to do big deals early in the transfer window.
But that hasn’t stopped the club from at least doing the right thing, and trying to wrap up deals for their top targets very quickly.
Comments welcome.

Comment #41Really dont wanna ne negative, but this seems to happen every year since Mike Ashley has been here, get linked with loads of good players and end up with none of them. The other worry is that we are now gonna lose our 3 of our 4 best players in under 6 months, AC, Barton and Enrique, so we now need to replace them as well. Was really excited about this summer and dont think we need too many players to have a really good team for next year, if we added a few and kept what we had, doesn’t look good for people trying to sign, that our best players are leaving. Would love to sign Gervinho, Sturrige and N’Zogbia, and maybe a few free squad players, like Larrsson, Reo-Cocker, and a defender,Get rid of a few as well, then i think we would be well set for next year. Team for next year.
Krul
Gosling Collicini Taylor Enrique
Barton Tiote
Gervinho N’Zogbia
Ben Arfa
Sturrigde
That would give us so much more pace and creativity, but like i said, think we’re all dreaming.

I’m Alan Pardew, and I’ve come on here to be totally open with you …
We aren’t telling clubs how much we have to spend but I can tell you it’s £30M in cash but we might spend even more on staged payments.
Gameiro – we’ve upped our offer to £10M but we are prepared to go to £12.5M but obviosly we are keeping that quiet. We’ve offered him £45K a week but what he doesn’t know is we’ll go to £60K.
N’Zogbia – Charlie has told us he wants to come back so we’ve hit Wigan with just £5M. We would go to £9M but as he probably won’t sign for another club we reckon £6.5M tops is what we’ll have to pay.
Gervinho – good player and almost in the bag. We’ve given him a deadline to force his hand and get him before other clubs do but if he dithers we’ll offer him another £10K a week – we are happy to pay that if we have to.
DO SOME FANS ON HERE HONESTLY THINK THAT THIS IS WHAT PARDEW IS GOING TO SAY??????
Are you lot for real? The ‘we want to know the truth’ brigade are not living in the real world if you think there is half a chance of being told what is really going on. OF COURSE, there is ‘smoke and mirrors’ – its all part of the negotiation process you dumb bells.
Why the hell you don’t just save your typing fingers until we actually sign a player is something only your physchiatrist can probably answer.

Comment #48The deadline was reported on twitter days ago for gervinho so that’s one. And we have bid for a striker that’s been reported so that’s gameiro. So we must be bidding at least for these players as they have been reported and pardew has all but confirmed these
Why can’t people just wait and see if these come off instead of just believing all the negatives in the press who have been out to get nufc for years!

Comment #51There you go again Bills…..everyone is a “dumb bell” or mentally ill….you can’t help yourself can you? Even when you have a decent point about transfer dealings your sheer arrogance overshadows your point…..I only like to comment on either current players or pertinent issues and sometimes blush with embarrassment at the “Champ Managers” and some of the fantasy footballer names people think we will sign under your hero …..but I do understand the urge for many to speculate when they are drip-fed little teasers almost on a weekly basis by our current manager and then nothing materialises but very real possibilities of outgoings before signings……smoke and mirrors maybe….or one step nearer the stable door for you?

Comment #54Not convinced bringing Insomnia back after the way he left is such a good idea!
However there are ex Toon players out there i would take back! for example:
Sylvain Distain from the Toffees,s.
Scott Parker from the Hammers.
Seb Bassong from the Spuds.
I can,t really understand why everyone seems to want Zog back as i think his mentality sux!
There are also much better players out there!
As for the other two, can,t see us getting them, maybe an outside chance of the ivory coast lad because Tiote is also from the Ivory coast but the other! naah no way mon!

Comment #55@NEWEXPATMAGPIE – as far as N’Zog goes, his ‘mentality’ that you write of was more a result of that idiot Kinnear trying to force him to play as a LB and Kinnear playing hardball with threats of the bench etc.
