News today that Newcastle officials have been very busy on up to three deals, that would represent an excellent start to the transfer window, if they can close them.
Kevin Gameiro – Newcastle after him – this week?
There have apparently been two separate approaches to French club Lorient in an effort to sign their top striker Kevin Gameiro, with news of an improved offer of £10M.
But Gameiro only yesterday welcomed interest from Spanish club Valancia, since he has made it very clear that he would prefer a move to Spain.
So we don’t know how the bid has been received by Lorient, and whether Kevin may be looking at playing in England, even though that would not be his first choice.
The other player Newcatsle are after is Gervinho, who has been a long term target and news this week that`Alan Pardew will meet with the player.
The 20 times capped Ivory Coast international can play on either wing or through the middle, and while he is not the finished product, he seems to have lots of natural skill and flair.
But Gervinho has also been interesting Arsenal and Manchester City, and since his club Lille were French Champions this year, he will leave the French club but wants European Champions League football, and of course both Arsenal and the Eastlands club can provide that.
Pardew has not given up on ether player and of course Newcatsle can pay the transfer deals in cool cash, which has to be a big advantage in arranging a deal.
This is what Alan Pardew said today:
“We’ve given a player a deadline this week, so that’ll be interesting,” “We think that’s 60-40 in our favor.”
“We are pitching for a striker that we bid for – that’s been reported. We’re hopeful on that but we’ll have to wait and see. There’s no real feedback from the club on that. And we’re pitching for another couple of players.”
“If I was a Newcastle fan, we’re making the right noises on that front. I’m sure the fans are disappointed about the Joey situation but we are trying to take the club forward by signing players.”
So it seems that Newcatsle are after three players, Gervinho, Gameiro, and maybe the third is Wigan’s Charles N’Zogbia, and Newcastle have been reported to have put in an initial bid of £5M.
Swansea’s Darren Pratley has also been mentioned this week, but Darren doesn’t seem to be in the same class as the other three.
If Newcastle can sign Gervinho, Gameiro and N’Zogbia that would be unbelievable, but there has to be little chance of signing all three – although if we can get one through the door early, that would be very good.
Newcastle seem to be doing all the right things to get the transfer season off to a good start, but it’s always difficult to do big deals early in the transfer window.
But that hasn’t stopped the club from at least doing the right thing, and trying to wrap up deals for their top targets very quickly.
Comments welcome.

Comment #2I dont actually believe any of this.
I think Mr Pardews statements are very carefully worded, so he can say we tried…….and still have his backside covered.
Come on AP tell us how it is, Fat Cash, holding on to as much dosh as he can until the season tickets sales figures are in maybe? then he can use a lump of that and pretend its all the AC fee…..

Comment #4I’m beginning to think that some of the posters on previous threads accusing the club of the ‘smoke and mirrors’ trick are correct here? I hope I am wrong, but I will start to believe again when I see something more than words.

Comment #6All three at Newcastle next season with Ben arfa would be a destructive front four. Goals in all of them and all with a lot to proove. If they come off there are some exciting times ahead.
Players like pratley are also a must aswell as the top players if we are wanting to challange Europe and 2 cups next season.

Comment #7Adel will be too high priced to take the risk on him stepping up to the prem imo like.
QPR would want around £8-£10m for him and theres a big chance he wouldnt make the grade in the prem.

Comment #9i would rather sturidge, agbonlahor or quite controversialy danny welbeck over gemerio for 2 reasons gemerio sed he would rather go to spain so he doesnt wanna cum here and secondly if ye get, gervinho/zog (or both),mbengue (or enrique) we then hav tiote, benny, collo, then probably krul in goal then thatll mean well have maybe max 4 englishmen startn, so ad like an english dude leading our line tbh and possibly wearin owa no.9

Comment #12toonbelmonter, I would love Sturidge too, but I don’t know if he is a player the club are after, or if Chelsea would contemplate selling. A cheeky bid for a season long loan deal with the option to buy to test the waters maybe?

Thanks, I try to see both sides of the stories without belittling… of course if its needed I dont mind throwing down! haha
I agree though, Pardew is careful with his words, he is a great media manager theres no doubt about that. But his quotes do SEEM to tie in with the rumours coming out of twitter so who knows?

Comment #15Ashley, Llambias say one thing then do another.
This maybe good business practice in the casino/retail trade but in the “Goldfish Bowl” that is NUFC they can plainly be seen as untrustworthy liars.
Pardew’s love of talking to the press opens him up to ridicule as Ashley and Llambias regard verbal agreements as a tactic to manipulate and not a point of honour.

No one is going to pay money for Xisco or Smith.
No one is going to match their wages.
So I think both will run out their contracts.
Possible loans for part of their wages may be possible?

Comment #20Bet we get at least two players buy next week the 2 players a think will be
Larrson, N’Zogbia
I still cant see us getting Gamerio he wants to move to spain but only Valencia interested and with there money trouble dont think they can do much so think he will stay in france, and for Gervinho apparently the crack is he would PREFERS CL football and with Newcastle, Liverpool, Spurs, Aston Villa, Arsenal all interested and would love to play in England only Arsenal can give him CL this season and a just dont think he will sign for Arsenal if am honest, out of all them team not cause Newcastle fan but a think we have to be favs for him Tiote best mates with him Drogbra will be in his ear saying its a good team like he was with Tiote and its appealing to be playing infront of 50,000 at SJP a think this could be interesting for our club if am honest, But we need to get a ST in for sure cant see it been Sturridge but a think it will be a big player.

Comment #26Just remember lads we r only a week into the crazy season ,just sit tight and wait ,I honestly think we will sign some good players .look what happened last time nobody knew who tiote was ,and look how he turned out .also from reading pards comments it seems like 4 players to me ,the player at 60/40 ,then he mentions a striker we bid for ,and then says “were pitching for another couple of players “.that says to me we are in for 4 at the moment .

Comment #31yeah i reckon we are in for 4 players and the deals are probably further on than we think otherwise he could jusy have carried on saying we are still scouting and just made a couple of enquires and thats were we are at right now anyway if i think they are gamiero, gervinho, n’zogbia and martin.
i know i will probably get slated for this but i wouldn’t mind reo-coker on a free can cover tiote at dm has more prem experiance than pratley and more disicpline at that pos. we only need 1 striker i think cos best, ranger, ameobi x 2 and maybe airey are good enough to cover it for now its down were we are weak i think

Comment #34Crawfordladd17 – I like your thinking and the figures add up nicely although I have reservations about Larsson and definitely not Curtis Davies. Would add Krancjar to that list on a Free too.
Only problem is that the numbers you have going out just about match the numbers coming in and this club needs to EXPAND its squad to have a chance of some success next season.
Your figures show however that if The Controller had ANY ambition whatsoever he would be in a great position to bring in some very good players. lose one or two others and still be within his financial budget.
Problem is we’re talking about Ashley here.

Comment #35Its typical us isnt it a time where you want to sort all contracts make no NUFC nervious of loosing our best talent, why would players JOIN us if the players here are worried ambition of the club?
Bold statement if that is Gamerio i would say that deal was like 20 -80 he wants La Liga and Valencia the club he wants to join, has no interest with us, and while we waste time punching above our weight for this guy we will lose out of other strikers like Ba etc..

Comment #37Annoying we have the money to buy a few top qulaity players to the club but cant pay the top wages to actually have them.
Im sure if we would of been offering serious money Gervinho, Gameiro would of signed by now.
So if we do buy players who are not in that qulaity bracket its not for the lack of effort. If we would of beaten WBH how much difference would a bout 10 finish do to attract players???
