Newcastle Increase Their Offer For French Full Back

There is news in the French press today that Newcastle have gone in with an improved bid for Toulouse left back Cheikh M’Bengue

Cheikh M’Bengue – Newcastle increase bid to £6M

Newcastle put in an initial bid of £5M for the French U21 left-back in mid April, but that was turned down, and they were expected to increase their offer, and that was done today, according to French press reports.

That doesn’t auger well for Newcastle keeping Jose Enrique, whose representatives will meet with Newcastle officials early next week, at which time Newcastle are said to be going to offer Enrique a mammoth five year deal to star on Tyneside.

But it seems Newcastle are covering all their bases, and there has been a lot of activity behind the scenes this past week by Newcastle in the transfer market.

The 22 year-old full back looks a very decent player, and of the right age for Newcastle, he turns 23 in July, and is of Senegalese descent.

But no doubt Toulouse are only too aware that Newcastle have £35M to spend, and will try to get the highest price possible for their impressive French U21 International.

Whether the increased off will be accepted, we have no idea.

M’Bengue stands 6? tall, and has been with his hometown club Toulouse since he was just seven years old, and so far has made around 70 times for the club, and has represented France at the U21 level 12 times.

Frecnh clubs Marseilles, Lille and Lyon are also interested in M’Bengue, but no club other than Newcastle has so far bid for the player.

I thought the initial bid was 5m euros which is about 4.25m? So £5m could be the new bid we’ve put in

He’s a decent player, but if they want more than say £6M, I feel they are extracting the urine a bit. Decent value to be had out there in LB’s.

Not heard much of him as i do not follow french football although I believe its a good idea to put a deal together now and if Jose does not want to stay, then sell him off and sign the documents to this deal therefore we can use the Jose money to pay for Cheihk meaning we still have 35mil to spend on further recruitments. I feel freebies are essential to have as squad back ups to help us through injuries, Wendt, Larsson, Coker, Williams, Pratley. Can really help us through the season leaving 4-5 big money players to come in as first team players

I dont believe Mike Ashley will pay more then 6mil for somebody to be on the bench he wants value for money therefore if we do get cover he will come on a free or cheap transfer, eg Oscar Wendt

On a side note… how many yellows did the team accumulate last season?

Were we the most booked team in the prem?

surely if we have increased the offer for m’bengue , then enrique has rejected the contract ? we need to get rid of perch desperately, of what i know he totally ruined some of our season and is the worse player i have ever seen. it will be interesting too see the other outgoings and incomings ! htl.

I am sure that if this player comes Enrique will leave. If he comes, Alan Pardew will need to sign a player to cover him or to choose a young left back from the Newcastle United academy. I hope that M`Bengue will play on the same level as Enrique. in my opinion Mike Ashley will not pay more than 6 million pounds to bring in him.

Cabaye and Hazard are Lille`s two best players. Gervinho and Sow have their moments but the other 2 are far more consistant.

5m for Cabaye seems ridiculously cheap!

If every season we could just sign just 1 or 2 real young quality player and 1.-2 team player we can grow.

As a team we will and can develop. I hope i can see it in 10 years time.

Altho, developing takes times but not many plp have these 10 years to spare.

Just for reminder, for L/R /C defence we do have utility player James Perch for cover just in case anyone miss out.

To be frank, his speed was ok but defence is his job.

We are also intersted in Karl Henry from Wolves and Tranquillo Barnetta from Bayern Leverkusen.

Dont want Karl Henry like,is a dirty player, but Barnetta looks class swiss winger.

Why are we selling our best player this season? Joey has said he wants to stay its the “CLUBS” fault, Why would any team not sign up there best player? is this the way we go push out any players seems stupid why not play Barton and Cabaye together in the middle with Tiote just behind in DM role?
Some may say he is too old at 28 or a risk of giving him a long contract, some may say overpriced in wages> is that the real reason moving out ANYONE on big wages?

Scholes like 33/34 and Giggs i dont get why you sell your best player, its just beyond stupid.
