News today in the Daily Mirror that Newcastle manager Alan Pardew wants to get Demba Ba from West Ham on a free transfer.
Demba Ba - 7 goals in 13 West Ham appearances
It turns out that Demba Ba’s agent wasn’t daft when he had the player sign on for West Ham in January, after the player had failed a medical on his knee at Stoke City.
The Senegal striker’s contract stated that if West Ham were relegated he would be released from his contract and become a free agent.
So the player is now a free agent and will be attracting some interest from clubs, although that knee situation could become a problem.
The former 1899 Hoffenheim player, who was born in France, showed he can score goals in the top English league by hitting 7 goals in 13 appearances for the Hammers, so he could do a lot better in a better team – like Newcastle.
Newcastle are reported to be putting together a lucrative deal, to attract the 6’3″ striker to Newcastle – and he wants to stay in England, if at all possible.
We’re not sure of the validity of this report, but he has already been linked with Newcastle since the end of the season.
If Newcastle brought in two strikers this summer, one of which was Demba Ba – we wouldn’t be grumbling too much, as he’s a better striker than Newcastle have at the moment.
But his knee is a concern, and if Newcastle do indeed go after the player, they will give the 10 times capped Senegal striker a very through medical on Tyneside, and maybe even contact Stoke to ascertain what they found as a problem with the knee.
Sunderland (of course) are also interested in the player, although the Mirror report says Newcastle are more focused right now in getting the player.
From what we’ve seen of him, he looks a very good player in the Premier League, and certainly scored some good goals for West Ham this year, and if his knee is OK we think he would be a good signing for Newcastle.
There’s one or two ifs and buts there of course because of the knee.
What do you think of Demba Ba?
Comments welcome.

Are you all mental? I know he has a ‘knee injury’ but he would of displaced 99% of the strikers in the league the way he was playing! May I add with no missed games. Best 2 strikers at the end half of the season were Demba and Sturridge. Either would be a quality signing. If you look on the post when we said we might bid like £6-7M for him it was about 70/30 in favour of getting him. Now he is on a free it is more like 30/70. What’s up with you guys?

yes I thought we were going to try and become a gootball team to replace the lump and hump it crap we’ve been getting. Gameiro or Sturridge would have been ideal.
Bostonmagpie,
You’re missing the point.
Having said that, he’s better than anything we’ve got right now.
26 toonbelmonter // May 28, 2011 at 10:27 AM
they were saying on the three legends there are only signing 1 striker, so if we get ba no sturridge or gemerio,
27 wynsleap // May 28, 2011 at 10:27 AM
Decent purchase for free but only if it doesn’t stop us getting the two TOP strikers we need like Sturridge and Gameiro (or Sturridge and one other.
With three strikers like that we could kiss goodbye to Shola and Best and have Lovo and Ranger in reserve.
A real step in the right direction.

32 matty g // May 28, 2011 at 10:33 AM
@ elpaso_geordie – I saw Danny Simpson tweet yesterday to Giuseppe Rossi and wondered what he meant. However your theory about Cwarr07 and Simmo going to watch hangover is incorrect Cwarr07 lives in or near Toon but Simmo was in Manchester yesterday as I saw him in the Traffird Centre
33 Phil K // May 28, 2011 at 10:33 AM
Us signing someone with injury problems ?
Hardly a first is it ?
Seems the player concerned has to be SERIOUSLY injured for a start to be even considered (only joking….I think) the Gosling and even more the Ireland situation being good examples.
34 GeordieDan // May 28, 2011 at 10:33 AM
I’ve always said no to Ba but only because he has this ‘ticking timebomb’ injury of his.
He looks a very decent striker so if we can get him on a free and on reasonable wages-with a clause regarding if he gets seriously injured again then why not?
Could be an absolute bargain but its a big risk and you wouldn’t want us to stop looking for other strikers just in case.
Would still much rather have Gameiro, Sturridge, Gervinho. (Or if I’m really dreaming a combination of some/all of the above)
35 Toonboy // May 28, 2011 at 10:34 AM
In the end of the day there is no risk with the transfer. Yes he has a knee injury, but we are signing him for free!
And I’m sure we will get a clause in his contract that he will have to take a pay cut if he gets injured to much.
36 hainesy // May 28, 2011 at 10:35 AM
Good find 09nufc09! Could he be the mystery midfielder? I doubt there ever was one but he does fit the profile of what was given. And from what I have seen of Cabaye he is much better than Barton. More of a playmaker. However Wiki ( worlds most trusted source) claims he has a 75M euro release clause.

40 Tinman // May 28, 2011 at 10:36 AM
Hainsey, spot on mate. Ba on a free with some sort of ‘pay as you play’ clause is utstanding business. Honestly who would not take someone on a free who would currently be our best striker? Yes i know people think this may revert to the long ball game, but sometimes you need that option. And no if we sign Ba on a FREE it does not mean we will stop chasing our other strike targets
41 Stuart // May 28, 2011 at 10:37 AM
Im sure we’re still after other targets such as Gameiro but when the chance comes up to sign someone like Ba for free you’re going to go for it.
Plus if we get him in thats one extra body for nothing and we can spend money on other players.
42 toonbelmonter // May 28, 2011 at 10:37 AM
toonboy the the mirror said hed get a big wage and signing on fee like we did with gosling so there is a risk, a huge risk
43 jimmymac // May 28, 2011 at 10:37 AM
Whilst i love your optimism, some people on here are truely deluded!! Ba would be a fantastic signing and is very cpabale of leading our line next year. Why are we still talking about players Like gameiro & gervinho who have both said they want CL football.
I think Ben Arfa behind Ba would be fantastic. With N’Zog, Spiderman & Nolan Supporting.
We do need 2 strikers, if one of those is Ba, then we i’ll be very happy. Granted i would love a player like Sturridge, but i think he will stay with Chelsea despite his recent comments.
Barton, stinks of similar situation to Steven Taylor. The club are no longer mugs and are not held for randsom by greedy Agents such as Willie McKay. I challange McKay to find Barton a club where he is liked never mind adored by 52000 faithful every week., a club that would have give him a 2nd, 3rd and 4th chance after his crazy antics. A club where he will be earning 65k a week despite his behaviour. If a 2 year extension isn’t enough then P*** Off and leave.
Rant Over,
I’m optimistic about our future, and i’m loving the fact we are no longer the laughing stock on English Football. I have faith in both Ashley Providing the funds and Pardew & Carr spending them wisely.

47 Nufc_mo // May 28, 2011 at 10:40 AM
@Davybtoon, not saying he is shite… but do we really want another central midfielder?
Tiote
Barton
Nolan
Guthrie
Gosling
Vuckic
Abeid (said he would be playing some part this season)
Smith
Ryan Taylor can do a Job in central Midfield
Colo can do a job as a CDM
Pardew said he wanted to utilise Ben Arfa as a CAM
Thats 11 Central midfield options. Do we need a 12th?
48 davybtoon // May 28, 2011 at 10:40 AM

Totally 100% agree with Davybtoon.
@Nufc_mo – You are wrong, Collo proved he can not do a job as CDM. Tiote is liable to bans, Guthrie plays decent 50% of the time, Gosling, Vuckic and Smith are all injury prone atm so dont want too many games.
I would do my best to get rid of Smith, or at least try and loan him for some of his wages. If we can get Reo-Coker and Larsson, then I would sell Ryan Taylor aswell.

Yes you have a good point mate.Bring in the quantity and then bring in quality. We need both to push on next season. Getting Coker, Larrson,Ba and Prately would be a step in the right direction as quantity is concerned but we would still need 3-4 quality signings. Sturridge would be one, N’Zogbia another. I would like to say Gervinho but i really cannot see that happening at all.
55 Nufc_mo // May 28, 2011 at 10:47 AM
Id much rather be seeing rumors about Newcastle being linked with the positions were we LACK any depth. Personally id leave CM at the bottom of the priority list…
We need a Rightback and One/Two (Non Injury Prone) strikers. With BA as 3rd choice atleast.
Who on their right mind would consider buying smith? and i cant see the club terminating his contract either… so i highly doubt he will be out the door.

toon 1978 – yea thats my point u quantity n also quality players, the frees bulk up the squad n replace the current squad players as there better, then like u say nzogbia, sturridge, cabyaye, martin wud improve first team quality
61 hainesy // May 28, 2011 at 10:50 AM
Best better? That is a very funny joke. Best is our Ruud Van Nistlerooy, good finisher, but never ever scores from out side the 18yard box. Ba can strike some corkers from range and is even more clinical in the box than Best. Ba over Best hands down.
62 Nufc_mo // May 28, 2011 at 10:52 AM
Barton controlled the CM in the first half of the WBA game and is entering his best years.
Cabaye is unproven in the premier league and could prove to be a flop/take awhile to adjust like Colo/enrique did. Not every international is gonna do a Tiote and charge right into the league all guns blazing.
If every rumour was to be believe we would have a full attacking force of french EPL unproven players.
Newcastle need to keep the spine of their squad with epl experienced players and not replace players willy nilly.

68 09nufc09 // May 28, 2011 at 10:56 AM
Out of that list nolan tiote and gosling are the only good cm( barton plays rm now) i like vuckic alot but you cant expect alot from him as he is only 18 same with abeid, alan smith makes perch look like a player (dont think anyone has ever told him stay on your feet) and guthrie is nowhere near the standard he was in the champiomship, i think we are going to be playing eva 451 or 433 next year and everyone knows tiote is going to get suspended (every dm does). So that leaves us with 3 players for 3 positions, no cover.
Cabaye is a very good player and would improve our midfield.

The lad was 18 playing against a chelsea team full of internationals, out of his favoured position( dm when he is a am) and still looked our best player on the pitch then he played against arsenal out of position again still our best midielder and never stopped trying even tho we were losing 4-o. He got a bad knee injury after that and has only just returned to trainging.
I go to a few reserve games and he is easily our best player coming through, he was in the same team as ferguson, lualua and ranger and looked a different class to everyone on the pitch.

In a word Barcelona.
Watch tonight and be educated young man. I doubt you’ll see the ball go in the air once. To be fair to United, they play proper football too and rarely use high balls. So that’s two of the most successful teams in the world.
When a forward / AM makes a run to get in behind the defense at the end of a third man passing movement to receive a defence splitting pass that is one of the joys of football, because it has method and isn’t just hit and hope, playing the percentages a la Allardyce, Pulis etc.
Statiscally most aerial crosses are headed away, where as cut backs on the ground for onrushing midfielders and the afore mentioned through balls are statiscally way more effective.
I look forward to predictable abuse and would almost be disappointed not to receive it.

Can we see those figures for the statistics you commented on. And wonder If they differ from league to league?
PL is far different to the Spanish.

Would make absolute sense if Newcastle were to buy Cabaye. Pardew stated that the player was a international player which Cabaye is, the report also stated that the player was a CM which he also is. And the £5m cheap release clause in his contract would explain why Pardew wanted to keep it so secret to not alarm any club about his release clause.
I’m just waiting for this signing to be made official:

No surprise we’re linked to Cabaye. We were bidding for him last year and this was before he got his breakthrough season with lille. Now a French International. Love to have him, he is the creativity of the Frech Champions. If he were to come, Gervinho might be tempted as well. Another CM. Could be the mystery signing.

We’re linked to offensive players these days, I hope they’re not forgetting on the defensive side of things. Another CB and RB please. We should go for either Roger Johnson or Scott Dann. I don’t mind Ridgewell too since he can play at LB too. And Get a quality RB.

they look like the similar type of player :/ im most probably wrong tho..

Id personally much rather go for Sturridge (proven player) over Gameiro who seems to have his heart set on spain and imo there is no point “forcing” a player to play in a league/team he wont be comfortable in

Here is the rest
According to our information, Yohan Cabaye is about to commit
with the Newcastle club. Yesterday the midfielder northerner
met again with the leaders with his English
agent. They had to finalize all the details of his
contract.
Yohan Cabaye was the only player in the LOSC to have a clause
release, set at 5 million. But a transfer to his
new club will be formalized after the three matches the team
France, for which he was selected.
Pedretti and Martin?
The Lille LOSC wore the shirt since the age of twelve years and has
already issued, in previous seasons, the desire to discover another
club. So the side of St. James Park, is already evolving Hatem Ben
Arfa, he chose to put his cleats.
Leaders northerners, who expected departure, will be able
move up a gear in terms Benoit Pedretti, who has
already agreed. They have not abandoned the idea of recruiting
Sochaux Marvin Martin, very busy, and Kevin Anin, even if its
profile is a bit more defensive than Yohan Cabaye.w

Courted by PSG and Valencia striker Kevin Gameiro Lorient has also been approached by Newcastle. After submitting a new offer of nearly twelve million, the Magpies have prompted the French international to visit their facilities.
Available in June 2012, Lorient striker Kevin Gameiro (24 years) is still the top priority of recruitment of Paris Saint-Germain , which has also targeted Dimitri Payet (St Etienne), Alou Diarra (Bordeaux) and Milan Bisevac (Valenciennes ). Robin Leproux, club president of the Capital, has yet to meet his counterpart Hake, Loïc Féry, last week. The Capital Club is ready to align with the current rates (10-12 M €). But the former Strasbourg is still waiting whether teammates Claude Makelele will achieve or not snatch third place in the classification, documentation of qualification for the preliminary round of the next edition of the Champions League.
In addition, Kevin Gameiro still favors the trail in Valencia, who offered him a four-year contract. While the French international has expressed the wish to be fixed as soon as possible on its future, Spanish leaders have recently renewed negotiations with their counterparts in Lorient, who had brushed aside a proposal from the hand of seven million euros payable in installments during the last Mercato. If departure of the Italian Giuseppe Rossi FC Barcelona, ??Villarreal is also on the move. Ditto for Lyon, Lille or Tottenham, who face yet supervised in Nice (2-0, 37th day of Ligue 1) the last weekend. Harry Redknapp, the manager of the Spurs, had made ??the trip.
But as we announced earlier, Newcastle was also positioned on the concrete case of Kevin Gameiro (Ed.: Mevlut Erding and Djibril Cisse are also tracked), which however did not necessarily seem very excited by the Prime League. In search of a successor to Andy Carroll, who left Liverpool, the Magpies have sent a new offer estimated at around twelve million euros (Sheikh M’Bengue, Toulouse left-back has also been the subject of a new proposal). The native of Senlis was also invited to visit the facilities of the club coached by Alan Pardew which operates including the former Lyon and Marseille player Hatem Ben Arfa. Operation Seduction is launched (the former coach of West Ham has also targeted Yohan Cabaye, and Charles N’Zogbia Gervinho). Even if for the moment, Paris Saint-Germain and Valencia remain above the player’s preference.
sorry for that but thats translated
