News today in the Daily Mirror that Newcastle manager Alan Pardew wants to get Demba Ba from West Ham on a free transfer.
Demba Ba – 7 goals in 13 West Ham appearances
It turns out that Demba Ba’s agent wasn’t daft when he had the player sign on for West Ham in January, after the player had failed a medical on his knee at Stoke City.
The Senegal striker’s contract stated that if West Ham were relegated he would be released from his contract and become a free agent.
So the player is now a free agent and will be attracting some interest from clubs, although that knee situation could become a problem.
The former 1899 Hoffenheim player, who was born in France, showed he can score goals in the top English league by hitting 7 goals in 13 appearances for the Hammers, so he could do a lot better in a better team – like Newcastle.
Newcastle are reported to be putting together a lucrative deal, to attract the 6’3″ striker to Newcastle – and he wants to stay in England, if at all possible.
We’re not sure of the validity of this report, but he has already been linked with Newcastle since the end of the season.
If Newcastle brought in two strikers this summer, one of which was Demba Ba – we wouldn’t be grumbling too much, as he’s a better striker than Newcastle have at the moment.
But his knee is a concern, and if Newcastle do indeed go after the player, they will give the 10 times capped Senegal striker a very through medical on Tyneside, and maybe even contact Stoke to ascertain what they found as a problem with the knee.
Sunderland (of course) are also interested in the player, although the Mirror report says Newcastle are more focused right now in getting the player.
From what we’ve seen of him, he looks a very good player in the Premier League, and certainly scored some good goals for West Ham this year, and if his knee is OK we think he would be a good signing for Newcastle.
There’s one or two ifs and buts there of course because of the knee.
What do you think of Demba Ba?
Comments welcome.

Comment #84Hey don’t get me’ wrong I’m very excited about Vuckic but just remember he’s done NOWT as of now.
Hopefully get a chance next season.
But your wrong about our current midfield.
Barton was one of the best in PL and Nolan again top English midfield scorer! Not too shabby and I’m proud as punch with what the lads did over the season

Comment #85entertainers – barton n nolan have been superb yes, but if we wanna move forward n achieve sumthing we need better players.
our midfield is to static jus for example we need to be more like barca the way they pass move n u need more gifted players to do that, id like to keep barton n nolan in the squad

Comment #86The lad was 18 playing against a chelsea team full of internationals, out of his favoured position( dm when he is a am) and still looked our best player on the pitch then he played against arsenal out of position again still our best midielder and never stopped trying even tho we were losing 4-o. He got a bad knee injury after that and has only just returned to trainging.
I go to a few reserve games and he is easily our best player coming through, he was in the same team as ferguson, lualua and ranger and looked a different class to everyone on the pitch.

Comment #89Davybtoon, does it matter that much about defense splitting passes!
Define a defense splitting pass please?
Which player in our team last season created the most goals! Crosses splitting the defense and landing on our players extremities?
I look forward to your response!

Comment #90Davybtoon you are making out vukic is better than Barton here?
Did you go to the accrington Stanley game? And the Chelsea game away?
Vukic, though full of promise, was passed by during both games! I mean accrington Stanley? Who are theyyyy…..

In a word Barcelona.
Watch tonight and be educated young man. I doubt you’ll see the ball go in the air once. To be fair to United, they play proper football too and rarely use high balls. So that’s two of the most successful teams in the world.
When a forward / AM makes a run to get in behind the defense at the end of a third man passing movement to receive a defence splitting pass that is one of the joys of football, because it has method and isn’t just hit and hope, playing the percentages a la Allardyce, Pulis etc.
Statiscally most aerial crosses are headed away, where as cut backs on the ground for onrushing midfielders and the afore mentioned through balls are statiscally way more effective.
I look forward to predictable abuse and would almost be disappointed not to receive it.

Comment #95No ones having a go at Vuckic, he’s a tremendous prospect, along with a lot of the kids, but don’t jump the gun saying he’s the best midfielder we have. He may turn out to be, but not just yet.

Comment #100Would make absolute sense if Newcastle were to buy Cabaye. Pardew stated that the player was a international player which Cabaye is, the report also stated that the player was a CM which he also is. And the £5m cheap release clause in his contract would explain why Pardew wanted to keep it so secret to not alarm any club about his release clause.
I’m just waiting for this signing to be made official:

Comment #110No surprise we’re linked to Cabaye. We were bidding for him last year and this was before he got his breakthrough season with lille. Now a French International. Love to have him, he is the creativity of the Frech Champions. If he were to come, Gervinho might be tempted as well. Another CM. Could be the mystery signing.

Tbh if we get Gameiro i cant see us getting Sturridge and Vice versa… From what i have seen (which is next to Nowt for Gameiro)
they look like the similar type of player :/ im most probably wrong tho..
